- It is difficult to place Milford Graves into a category. He is lauded as a master drummer of the 1960s avant-garde jazz scene, credited with inventing the martial arts form yara, and is established as both an herbalist and acupuncturist in New York City. Additionally, Graves is a passionate researcher of human biology and brings that knowledge to all of his work. In this conversation with Aakash Mittal filmed by Molly Sheridan, Graves talks about all of these things and shows how they are all interrelated. Rest in peace, Milford Graves. Your music is so powerful and has impacted so many of us on such a deep level. You will live on in our music forever.
Damn, i just watched the documentary Full Matis about him. I had no idea of his passing until seeing your post. I was just going on dive into his teachings. Rest in Power brother Graves
This video made me quit my music career and drop out of jazz school. I was in it for the wrong reasons, and I am beyond grateful that Milford made me realize it. 0:40
People like Mr. Graves are so inspiring. Curious, passionate, driven, creative. I'm glad he lived a full life, but sad he's not part of our world anymore.
“We’re here to make the eardrum vibrate”.. Perfect.
Perfect bullsh..😂😂😂
One of the only things I remember from any Bennington class is Milford talking about eating too much miso. RIP
I miss being in Professor Graves's classes at Bennington. Great storyteller. Learned a lot.
Yup. Was there.
a fine human being, dedicated to raising our levels of existence, moments of his tutelage are precious indeed
On the last day of "Tonal Rhythmology and Percussion" 2010 the man called me his "Brother". He is more of a genius than I can reason with. His mind works swifter than he can speak (articulate) and that level of mental elevation is noticeable after 3 minutes beside him. His course was one of the greatest privileges I have ever had in a classroom of peers. - For Your Wisdom And Tremendous Character, Sir.. Thank You.
This kind of speech, every musicien should listen and hear every day...
RIP Legendary Thank you for the great music - Philly Love
The TECHNIQUE alone tells the story.
I am amazed at what Milford Graves does with two sticks in one hand. Playing time with one stick and accents with the other. Incredible!
Rip Mr. Graves.
The Exhibit at the ICA LA is awesome. (Feb 2023)
