I'm inheriting my dad's shopsmith Mark v that he's barely used in the last 46 years. I've never seen him use it growing up. Thanks for this video so I can see all the cool things it can do since I have limited space to get separate pieces of equipment.

When I was a lot younger and my father-in-law was alive, I really, really wanted a Shopsmith. Fortunately he talked me out of it. Looking back, I’m glad I took his advise. He was a smart man and a really great woodworker. Learned a lot from him but he died before I could learn everything he wanted to teach me. Man, I miss him everyday.

Why, fortunately? They're good machines. And can be purchased cheaply on Facebook marketplace.
Mine does everything it's advertised to do and does it well.

That is an awesome bit of kit. Something like this would pretty much revamp my workshop. I just wish I could afford to buy one.

My dad gave me his 1950's shopsmith 40 years ago, the motor bearings went out and the new motor won't be here until Monday. I'm so bummed. Next weekend I will be making shavings. Greg

Just inherited one of these, works great but needs a little TLC as there's sawdust older than I am jammed up in Avery sliding surface.
Gonna print organization for it on the wall.

While I have not used a shopsmith, I had a TRITON workcentre which could be turned into drop saw, a table saw and a router table. Changing over takes time and effort. Unless one is short of space, I think having a few dedicated machines plus a multi-purpose machine like the 510 which provides different functionality would be ideal.

Such a cool machine. I wonder why they fell out of popularity?

Making one cut that takes 10 seconds appears to take 10 minutes... if you remember where you put it last
