Welcome back to ChriswithaC RC! In this exciting second part, we’re taking the newly unboxed Traxxas Sledge out for its first run. After an impressive unboxing, it’s time to see if this beast lives up to the hype on the track and in the dirt.
First Impressions:
After unboxing the Sledge, I was already impressed with its build quality and robust design. Now, it’s time to put it to the test. I’m eager to see how it handles, its speed, and its overall performance.
Running the Sledge:
Right off the bat, the Traxxas Sledge shows off its 6s power with explosive acceleration and impressive top speeds. The drivetrain, which Traxxas claims is bombproof, handles the power beautifully. The handling is tight and responsive, thanks to the race-inspired design and superior chassis strength.
Highlights of the Run:
Acceleration and Speed: The Velineon® VXL-6s speed control and 2000kV brushless motor deliver insane power, achieving speeds over 70 MPH with the right batteries.
Handling and Stability: The Sledge’s triangulated chassis and T-Bar™ system provide excellent stability, even at high speeds. Cornering is precise and the truck feels planted.
Durability: After several jumps and rough landings, the Sledge’s rock-solid chassis and massive steel drivetrain show no signs of wear. It’s built to take a beating and keep going.
Clipless Body System: The clipless body system makes battery changes quick and easy, allowing more time for fun and less time for maintenance.
Conclusion:
So, is the Traxxas Sledge a direct competitor to the Arrma Kraton, or does it carve out its own niche? Jersey here buddy…great looking truck. I’m not a big traxxas guy but I do like the Sledge. Looks like a beast. And as with every company they all have their own quirks, I just learned to not get frustrated 😅. Thanks again for your time and dedication. Stay savage my friend
Yo jersey buddy , hope your well my friend , yeah I’ve fallen head over heels with this one , love the looks , quality and so far it’s playing ball . Got a video coming out fingers crossed this evening had chance to run it in anger at a local spot and it’s really surprised me , so much negativity about it but yet owning one is rather nice 👌
As you say they all have quirks it’s just how you deal with them my EXB was a bloody nightmare
Bought my sledge used and in very good condition, and I totally love it. I put some lighter wheels and tires that removed 1 pound of rotational weight and went to a high power 4S battery for handling on the track. Marc with Park flyers has done a few awesome build videos on UA-cam for the sledge.👍🏽👍🏽
I have to admit I'm a fan of Traxxas, got the rally VXL and my Lil lad got the bl2s slash and I was seriously impressed so got myself the VXL 😂 for a 3s car it's insane!! Got 43mph out of stock gearing and put the supplied speed pinion in and managed the promised 60mph but without the shell as the air gets under and flips it. I run it on the standard pinion now as it's plenty fast on the gravel tracks and the car park, kicking up stones and it's an absolute weapon! You have to try a slash man you'll be surprised and it would fly through those bends at the park you go to.
Hey buddy wow yeah that does sound like tons of fun to be fair , as you said maybe the slash would be a awesome truck to try out I for to say I really like the Fox racing body they make as well .
Yes mate you you gona love this truck - Sledge is an absolute monster !Epic out the box & Good to work on - indestructible with a few tweaks n mods
Ah man i really hope so , So many mixed feeling about this truck thats the weird thing . I have noticed so many plus points to it , Steering is good , As you say easy to work on , Need to look at the wheels and tires though as they ballon so much .

I’ve watched you run a lot of cars there and first thing I thought was how much turn you had. Steering looks good to be fair.
Hey buddy , Yeah i agree with you it seems to turn well all things considered and the servo even though isnt lighting quick it strong as a OX . made me consider the stock servos a bit more , but thats down to the brand i suppose .

These cars are pretty solid mate, me and some friends run these along side some 6s arrmas and the traxxas seems are about equal in performance and they are just as reliable. We race once or twice a week on loose dirt with small jumps

Oh, that makes sense… Larry really likes his Sledge. I was thinking about getting one, but I’m down to two Traxxas vehicles. I’ve been waiting for them to come out with something brand new and fresh in the basher category before I buy another one

I think you seriously need to maybe put this on you list and decide which one this or the Max Slash for sure ! Maybe our Traxxas fans here have got both and could give you there opinion , I really like this truck though .

What can you using? Does not seem to be too bad for depth most RC car vids are so fish eyed across the net so I’m curious ?
I’m using a DJI osmo action 4 buddy , excellent camera , they have just brought out the action 5 now

The diff oil if you can call it that is 20million it’s more like putty .
Hoping to get this out Sunday to properly rip it around .

Yes the maxx and the XMaxx use that 20mil putty and something called a “Cush drive” - it’s like a rubberised slip system. Not sure if Sledge has that?

Ah man "the MT8 Situation" i like it ! its a term that im going to use more and yes your right , People judged it and yet i had one and had so much fun with it .

If it puts a smile on your face thats all that matters, not every rc is for everyone maybe this the one for you, every rc has its flaws some willing to put up with some manufacturers faults over others, each to theyre own. not a traxxas fan if im honest but do like the xrt, just look expensive propositions so many upgrades available for them some necessary some just bling but when fully sorted they do look badass. started watching kudra power rc channel he made a pretty nice sledge & xrt lot $$$ in them maybe worth checking out. hope you enjoy it
Hey buddy , Yeah it's most definitely a case of Smiles per mile with this one . As you say some people judge a truck before they actually use it . and each brand has a list or should i say wish list of things that could be better , so its more of a case which is the one you can live with.

I have an Xmaxx ultimate and TRX4M. I don’t mind the transmitter at all
Hey Jason , yeah for sure the transmitter does not bother me to be honest , once your using it it feels pretty decent control wise I just feel that traxxas could make a better handset by now as this is getting a bit old in the tooth now and make it feel more premium.
As for functionality works just fine .
When you bind your radio link hand set to you bind it to the stock esc? Or do you need to swap it out

Replace the chassis and sell the original before you bend it. The chassis bends under the motor very easily causing issues with the gear mash. I replaced my chassis with just bash The best thing I did. Most likely going to replace the esc next and turn up the bec voltage to the servo to see if that helps with the staring and and brack setting. Also replace the wheel with the belted tyres they transform the handling.

@@ChriswithaCrc Yea I feel ya. I ran on a new football field a few weeks back and wondered why the cars were jumping all over the place. About a 1000 huge stones been thrown all over it but you couldn’t see them from a distance 😂😂😂
So what was the final thoughts on the controller?
Well quite honestly bud , I dont hate it at all ! , It worked well and felt easy to use , but i do like to have all my tuning options available at hand .
Will i keep it errrrmmmmm not to sure yet .

@@ChriswithaCrc Yea I guess it’s hard to like any stock controller when you have the radio link. Good for people who haven’t got that option to know the stock one isn’t too bad. It most certainly didn’t look good out of the box 😂😂😂

As long as you don't send it 20 feet in the air and nose dive it won't destroy the gearing it can't take a nose dive traxxas repair tech told me that it's a ground runner not a flyer it's an awsome truggy with plenty of traxxas upgrades
Hey Joey , Yeah that the plan to be honest with you keep it on the floor , Keep it fast and beat essentials for upgrades , its going to be a case of if it breaks then buy a traxxas upgrade and not a thrid party if i can help it !
