Properly maintaining your car, and especially the cooling subsystems is vital in a high performance motor. This is especially critical if you also decide to tune your car, and take it beyond typical factory specifications.
Arguably the most important subsystem in your car is the oil itself, and maintaining that is vital. I see the Mosselman oil thermostat as a critical piece of that, and I wanted this in my S55 M2C for sure.
The install really isn't that hard, and something you can do in less than an hour with a few simple tools.
Required parts and tools:
Mosselman S55 Oil thermostat

Plastic trim tool set

Torque values:

Awesome guide! Keep making more M2C content!
Thanks and lots more on the way!
Thank you for your video.
With your help and how to install the moussleman thermostat I was able to install mine on my 2018 f80 comp
Keep up the great work !
Thank you and happy to help!
I've been running the Mossleman thermostat for almost 2 years now...one of the best upgrades for the price you can do.
Totally agree!
What’s the purpose of this Mossleman and benefits for my engine?
@@vetodmp2821 It keeps your oil temps lower. I average right around 190 degrees F no matter how hard I drive. With the stock oil thermostat, it was around 230 degrees F.
Thank you for this video🙏🏼
You're so welcome!
Great video, definitely subscribed. If you do this job while doing an oil change, could you eliminate the possibility of spilling the oil?
Not that I have seen at least, just no way around it
Greetings from France! Thanks a lot for this crystal clear video. Dumb question : do we need to do any operation before starting the engine again (such as "priming" it or bleeding the coolant) ? Many thanks in advance, S.
Not a dumb question and no, you don't have to take any extra steps like that. Great question!
@@BMWDIYGuy Many thanks for your prompt answer !
Firstly, great vid! I assume it's a no (given the very small volume of oil lost) however, do you think topping up oil is essential?
Dead on.. very little oil lost. 8)
What is the torque specs of the oil thermostat? And the collar too thanks
And you mentioned it comes with 2 o-rings after watching this I will order Mosselman and gasket 👍🏼👍🏼
So the 3 bolts are 16nm and the long single bolt holding the collar is 8nm.
would it be a good idea to change the oil while doing this due to loss of oil or does it not matter?
You lose very little so should be ok
Do you need the install kit gasket and O rings, mine didn’t come with it
In general you want to replace them while you are there.
Do I need to though? For the mosselman or are they the same gaskets and o rings?
@@exhaustfanatic2417 yes because the gasket goes on the engine side, and on the pipes, that doesnt change. I would change them myself.
What happens if you do spill oil over the belts and surrounding area? Would it cause any damage?
Asking cause like an idiot I did spill oil.
It happens so dont beat yourself up too badly about it. The main thing is to get it clean or best you can.. you could always use a gentle cleaner like diluted simple green, on a rag to help wipe down the belts. Get what you can, and I am sure it will be fine.
I am going to buy this but I’am worried that the thermostat will stick and starve the engine of oil..
Can't say I have ever heard of that happening..
@@BMWDIYGuy ok, I trust your judgment..
Btw, yesterday I found my rear catalytic converter red hot so now I figure will be needing injectors and possibly new cat, might as well buy vrsf down pipes...
@@buildindian8169 Sounds like time for an upgrade! 8)
You’ll be fine, I’m in Europe and been running this and their turbos for 2 years. Mosselman are good guys. Been around since like 1979
What are the torque specs for the bolts?
Front and rear CF strut bar torque values: 28nm
Bolt holding oil return pipes: 8nm
Oil‐coolant heat exchanger to oil filter housing: 16nm
@@BMWDIYGuy Thank you! I've been searching all morning for some specs but it's been a cluster.
@@xlBattlefieldlx Happy to help.. finding official torque specs is much harder than it should be.
