    These are Spanish-made aircraft, English engines. And the German designation was applied precisely for filming the film. So this not and WW2 german aircraft.

    These were the Hispano 'Buchons' that were used in the making of the film 'Battle of Britain.' Most of the aircraft shown here have since been restored to flying condition. The irony of a German WW II Messerschmitt being powered by a Rolls Royce Merlin engine, has not escaped me.

      After the sale of the German fighter to Spain, during the war, the Daimler Engine Factory was run over by the Russians advancing against Germany. So the Spaniards needed an Engine and found out to buy them in England, and changed the plane to be able to use them. It is easy to see from the air intake in front, and the "high" propeller.
      We have most of one of those Engines in The Sommer Car Museum, north of Copenhagen, from when the planes had been scrapped and the owner, Ole Sommer found one in a scrapyard in Spain! Ole Sommer produced several fine Danish built cars during the years, mostly for the fun of it, and many based on Volvo technique, as he was a Volvo Dealer.
      The last one: "Oscar" was a sportscar based on the Ferrari/AC Cobra like shape, and with 50 years warranty against rust in the frame below.

    Whether or not they were built by the Spanish at the end of or after WW2 and were used in the WW2 movie "The Battle of Britain" these Messerschmitt 109s are still a cool piece of history even if they aren't true warbirds. It's the same as if a few P-51 Mustangs or P-47 Thunderbolts were built, put in storage, never used in combat but flown a few times. I would love to have one in my collection if I could afford such a collection.

    • @FiveCentsPlease
      @FiveCentsPlease Рік тому

      +@briancathey498 This private hangar of Spanish Buchons was well-known and certainly not abandoned. In actuality, many usable aircraft and materials that were not scrapped immediately at the end of WW2 were re-purposed. This included some German aircraft, with the French using up leftover Fw-190s and parts for a short time. The Finnish used leftover Bf-109s until the 1950s. The closest to a "warehouse" that I can think of is a warehouse full of DB engines in Czechoslovakia which could have powered their Avia S-199 fighters, but it burned in 1947 either accidentally or intentionally.
