Bobby, you run one of those channels that one always wants to check when something new is released. The reason is simple: you don't sell anything, you honestly talk about the pros and cons of any piece of gear. Thanks for this one. I'll stick with my Ms and will wait for the SL3 (2024).
Just got the Q3. I sold my Q2 and Q2 Monochrom and also had the Q1. I shoot photos and could care less about video so all your positives point my way. Thanks for your input.
Always been my favorite reviewer for Leica cameras and lenses. Thank you for your honest review, and for the best example photos I have seen for the Q3 so far! I just returned from Japan and Central Asia, and my digital CL is still my favorite for travel but will need to consider the Q3 for future trips.
Great review! I ended up buying a Q3, no regrets… I am actually blown away by the JPEGs this camera produces. I am a RAW shooter, but now, I'm finding the JPEG's that come out of the camera are acceptable for viewing and sharing purposes. I am eager to try the video capabilities of the Q3. .
What 3 dimesionality?😂😂😂😂 that 3d is only in brains, and same thing does all cameras if you can take photos and have right lens.. real 3d is different thing then😂😂😂 that leica 3d is only story, like a unicorn😂😂
@@Janihonkalaxx Not true. There is an apparent dimensionality in the photos, but not limited to Leica rangefinder lenses -- I see this clearly in Zeiss, Voigtlander, and others too. However, more than other brands, the dimensionality and feeling of structure to objects in photos is evident in Leica autofocus lenses (e.g., very much in the Summilux-TL 35 f/1.4 ASPH) and the Q's lens.
I'm in love with this "camera" and I thank you for posting this. I do not need video features but I can clearly see rolling shutter issues, (quite common in this kind of systems, ok) but I did'nt expect that much.
Thanks for watching. Yes the rolling shutter is definitely an issue. Seems Leica wasn’t sure to go full video mode on this or not. Hopefully if they use this tech in future cameras like the next version of the SL series, it’s better than this
That was a very knowledgeable, seemingly unbiased and thorough review and you get bonus points from me for not talking about the frankly ludicrous crop/zoom mode, which (correct me if I'm wrong) seems mostly aimed at photographers who aren't entirely sold on the 28mm focal length or the basic principle of a fixed lens camera body. I've never used Leica, but if I ever bought one of its products this would probably be it, because 28mm is probably my favourite length and the body itself is a work of art. Incidentally, you got beautiful colours from all your images and to be honest, much of the other stuff I've seen on UA-cam to my eye could just as easily have been taken with Sony or Panasonic. If there is an online source of photos that proves there is such a thing as the 'Leica look' I'd love to know where it is to help get me off the fence. But in any case, thank you for your excellent video.
Thank you for watching and the kind words. The crop mode is to give users more flexibility especially with the 28mm focal length and 60MP but not a feature I would use all the time since the raw files are still intact. The leica look has more to do with the lens than anything. Color is subjective. For me I did do some edits minus the shots I mentioned weren’t edited in the video. The files are easy to work with and why I also enjoy using Leica especially for their colors.
Color of the digital M cameras has always been different to the SL and Q range. It was Leicas goal for the M range to have a filmic color that would be a natural next step after the film cameras. For the other ranges they opted for a more ‘digital’ look. Having said that, there is a kind of watershed between the M10-range and the M11-range where the M11 tends more to digital (more magenta, cooler and less yellow/green warm) tones. By the way, I always use the Otect Q-Cap lenscap for my Q2M. Perfect fit and easier to carry in your pocket when not mounted. Highly recommended.
For me I feel the M11 feels slightly more film like with the magenta shift but understand your thoughts as well. Yes I think Leica realised they need to improve the cap and this one sticks on well
I enjoyed your commentary! I managed to get in an order for the Q3 this morning before it went on a waitlist. I am so excited to get this camera! I will be using it almost exclusively for travel photography and as a walk-around camera. I'm wondering if you shot any photos in black and white and, if so, what you thought of the image quality compared to the Q2 Monochrom. If so, any observations would be appreciated! I look forward to future videos and have subscribed to your channel.
Thank you for the superb video.......But Now I am in trouble. Q3 or Q3 43. I love night Street photography with long roads and buildings included in the scenery and concert photography.. But with the introduction of the Q3 43 which have 6 crops possibility and better resolution I really do not know which one to get. . Please give me your opinion considering that I love the extra width of the Q3 but also love the portraits the crops and the extra resolution of the Q3 43. Ouf Leica, I wish I could get them both but I can not.. Bear in mind that I have the Fuji with the 35 1.4 and the 16-55 and the Nicon z9 with the 24-70 f/2.8. But I loved these Leica colours, so yes I am in trouble
The 43 lens is a better len s than the 28mm f1.7 so if you crop in you will see more detail. I personally love the 43mm focal length more due to the way I like to photograph. 35 and 50 and longer are my go to. 28mm is a bit neither here nor there. If you photograph people more and want that pop, the 43 is the way to go
As much as I love all the upgrades in the Q3, perspective control and more, I feel that with the external design they fall short. The flap on the left is just ugly, the floppy screen too. And I think the D pad on the Q2 looks (even if a little too small) more refined. Now the Q looks like almost every other camera. And how many people requested the cable shutter thread?
Great stuff as always, Bobby. Curious, is there a crop in any of the video modes? I don't mean the user selectable crop but a crop on the sensor that can't be avoided in say 4k60 etc.

CFexpress cards probably generate too much heat, but internal storage would have been great. Heck, make the internal storage 1TB capacity and drop the SD card completely.
Went and tried out the camera at a Leica store. Lovely. Well made. An object of desire. I would buy one if it were 35 or40 or 50mm. 28 is just two wide for me. I would wind up cropping the hell out if everything, thus the 60 megapixels really becomes a 36 or 24 megapixel camera.
I like both for different purposes. Q3 is a good travel camera that is inconspicuous and great for street and documentary photography. The Sony is a more full featured system with interchangeable lenses
The Sigma fp L with what lens? And in the same size package as the Q3? I got rid of all my Sigma L mount lenses as they did not hold a candle to the Leica primes.
Hi guys buy my Tupperware. It’s v3. So much better than v2. It’s a little bit more expensive but you get so much more. This time it comes with a lid. …..Don’t ANY of these reviewers have any self respect?
From what I read and saw, I don’t know know for whom this camera was designed. Not for me, that’s certain. Who needs 60 Mp, unless you’re a professional or need to crop a lot with the 28mm. Autofocus with 28mm? For very close up with wide open lens perhaps. This is a camera that you have to invent pros for to justify it.
Bro q3 doesn’t have a mic cause Leica is going to come out with and off cam recorder for the Q, blue tooth, red dot, and only at twice the price of a battery. 😜
Thanks for watching. Hmm I’m Recording in 32 bit raw and I’ve check the file and there is no clipping. Perhaps your system that you are listening on is having issues. Nothing on my side for this video
For the price of your super duper Leica Q3, I'm certain that I could get first class air tickets from Alaska to Kyoto & find a real Leica there with lens too which would enable me to get some real shots of Kyoto. Oh yeah, the Leica camera I'd pick up would be a REAL LEICA, one that shoots REAL FILM, 35 MM FILM! Like the good ole days when I was at CalArts in the seventies & was able to check out Leica cameras/with lenses for class projects. There is NO WAY that I would waste me money on a fake Leica, one of these new fangled toys. Leica equals 35mm FILM, Real Film, Period! 😎😎

I like both for different purposes. Q3 is a good travel camera that is inconspicuous and great for street and documentary photography. The Sony is a more full featured system with interchangeable lenses
Sigma fp L with a DPL attachment for storage absolutely smokes this
Hmm disagree on that
The Sigma fp L with what lens? And in the same size package as the Q3? I got rid of all my Sigma L mount lenses as they did not hold a candle to the Leica primes.
Hey, shouldn't shoot 25p for YT, as computer screens run 60p, so 25 looks jaggy when panning, 30p and 60p does not...
Understand. Tried the 30p on my latest vid to see how it plays.
Hi guys buy my Tupperware. It’s v3. So much better than v2. It’s a little bit more expensive but you get so much more. This time it comes with a lid. …..Don’t ANY of these reviewers have any self respect?
Can’t speak for other reviewers but I call it how I see it. I critique the camera when and where it makes sense.
60MP gives you more cropping power and also now better video specs.
Bro q3 doesn’t have a mic cause Leica is going to come out with and off cam recorder for the Q, blue tooth, red dot, and only at twice the price of a battery. 😜
Lol! 😂
At 6k? no thanks. I will op for a Z8 and a kit lens anytime
Different camera system actually but understand when comparing dollar to dollar there will be choices
No way that I would waste my money...
Whatever processing you have got set on your mic... throw it out/reset. Very strange clipping/gating going on.
Thanks for watching. Hmm I’m
Recording in 32 bit raw and I’ve check the file and there is no clipping.
Love your reporting, but the large MICROPHONE looks very silly. You are not Howard Stern on the radio, you can get top audio, sans the big mic, and a "Blogger" style look does not suit a presentation of pricy items at all. Again, love your reviews, some of the best our there!
Thank you for watching, and while I respect your opinion, using top end audio equipment equipment for good sound quality isn’t diminishing the brand, it’s accentuating it.
