I think you hit the real problem that I have with it to, is like we know EA is greedy, we say greedspawn as a joke. So to just lie and say the community wanted this is such a slap in the face. I guess whales may love this cause they’ll be getting “more”

Well, I actually really like the Apex Battle Pass changes, the only thing I would change is that you can buy the Battle Pass with Apex Coins. That would be the only thing I would want. For me, one Battle Pass per split isn't so bad. I just don't think the old Battle Pass is that good because it has far too many rare skins, audios, emotes...etc, only one legendary weapon skin and two legendary legend skins. The one Battle Pass per split system means there are more legendary weapons and legend skins, and with the Premium+ there are also two legendary color variant skins. Even if the two legendary color variant skins end up in the store after a year or so, I still think it's better in some ways than the old Battle Pass system. The only thing I don't like about the new Battle Pass is that you can't buy it with Apex Coins. In my opinion, Respawn and EA should just make the new battle pass purchasable with apex coins like the old battle pass. But we all know EA. We can only hope that EA and Respawn listen to us and at least switch the $10 and $20 back to apex coins. What I also really hope is that EA and Respawn bring back normal collection events so that the crafting metals from the battle pass are worth more.
Apex is such a great game that its actually mind boggling that they fail at selling content to users. If they actually provided good content from cosmetics at REASONABLE prices. The community wouldn't be acting like this. Somehow they fuck it up. But this is just the cherry on top. Because the core issues with players is being swept under while you just throw the biggest middle finger to your casual players who enjoy grinding battlepass.
this is the most painful part. This game does so much right in terms of gameplay. It was the first BR to implement so many good ideas like being able to revive teammates. But then you look at the shop in this game and it’s horrible. Insanely overpriced shit everywhere.
Why would people spend money in a game just to die to cheaters, have their game crashing non stop and whatnot? Its not surprising they fail to sell content, the game keeps getting worse and worse every single season. They should've figured the cause of false bans long ago and turned the AC back on, instead they manually ban handful of cheaters here and there which doesnt even scratch the surface and thats only if they themselves encounter them (i know this may sound shocking but some devs do indeed play the game, i met one just few days ago). Even streamers can't get cheaters banned recently which is...truly shocking.
The driving force behind why its so bad is because they removed the option to use coins. That decision effectively devalues retention in favour of new players who'd benefit from the characters being unlocked, while being blissfully unaware of how things used to be.
Agreed, I tried to hit that point twice in the video. I might have not done an effective job on it. But I even mentioned that is how I got the Battle pass over and over also. You get enough coins to renew for the next season.

I don't really care about two splits and content within, it just sucks that free players are being tossed aside. I could maybe get on board if they continue the challenges (as they plan to for the first ever split) in place of the coin transactions. Even if they open it up to cost 2400 crafting metals/10 exotic shards as some sort of alternative currency. That way they can continue bringing attention to the store through rewarding otherwise useless coins, while maintaining a free-if-completed option.

I agree the transparency and trust of where they spend the money is the biggest problem. They’ve had years to fix the audio, server, and CHEATER issues in the game. Now they’re raising prices because the “community” wants it? Nope. Not what we want.

No. Completely wrong, the battlepass itself is a joke. It's predatory. A lot of us play on console where the cheating issue simply isn't a problem. I've got 5000 hours and can probably count on one hand the amount of suspicious activity I've seen. I could care less if the game wasn't super popular, I do care about predatory practices. I have rolled my battlepass from season 1, I have sunk cost, they are strong arming me to carry on by changing the rules. It's predatory. The timing with the current state of Apex legends on PC isn't a good one, but it's just a compounder of the issue, which is the battlepass.
There are 3 problems with justification, first, they didn't specify they are gonna spend more on improvements to the game. There is no guarantee BP money will be spent on new content and servers. Second, the very first thing those goblins are gonna think about is to cut the budget on the cosmetic team so respawn won't be able to create high quality cosmetics and will start making recolors and reusing old skins instead of creating new ones. Third, the best thing about this BP is crafting shards and Apex coins, which everyone will save up for collection events, The problem is respawn and EA will lose incentive to create new heirlooms and skin, they would try selling recolored heirlooms over and over. Creating heirlooms is the way this game made money up until this point so there will be no motivation to create good stuff. Mark my words, the new it's gonna be backlash because of the 20 dollar price tag, they will reduce it to 10 maybe so players feel a false sense of success in this David vs Goliath kind of battle. This is the intention of EA, people. Solution? Apex legends is too big to fail, with low income they won't just shut down the servers, we have to force EA to give up on apex and respawn so somebody buys respawn or it goes public. GOD I WISH I WAS A BILLIONAIRE.
The timing of this Battle Pass (and the BS about it being based on community feedback) when the game is in the state that it is couldn't be worse. Respawn is completely silent on cheaters, terrible servers, the game crashing every other game, countless bugs, etc. but tells us they're listening to the community when it comes to spending more money on the game... come on man.
I don't really care about skins and just playing game. But they should have done it, one pass with coins like we used to and then add premium versions for those who have money to waste.
I would be willing to spend some money on the battle pass but going from having to pay 10$ one time to having to pay 20$ per season is just insane. Having an option to pay 700 coins and 2,5$ (and don't having a split) would be fair IMO.
what you said at the end is 100% valid, I really don't understand how they can push something like this without even expending one breath, about the massive cheater issue or the fact that pubs is just awful if you play by your self. Like are they that out of touch with the player base? Wouldn't you think people would want to stick around in apex more if there were more ltms added as permanent modes. Just adding more outlets for people to enjoy if one game mode just isn't hitting for them at that moment? are they afraid of dividing the player base? When in reality, chances are that there would just be more people playing in general. I don't get where they missed the fact that a game that is fun across all the modes that could be available would drive player retention, and therefore drive revenue so much more.
I loved Apex and in many ways still do, but I quit in season 17 after it was clear that Respawn and EA don't give a shit about their community besides their wallets. All that they have continued to do as proven to me is that I was correct in that assessment. I would genuinely feel embarrassed to call myself a respawn developer if I worked there. The Titan Fall/early Apex era Respawn is dead, and they are too successful to try anymore.
They should have just made it harder to earn enough coins to buy the next pass, so more people would have to buy coins occasionally. This would also increase engagement. Or at least allow you to use coins to reduce the real money cost. They chose a really bad way to do things.
If I buy skins then devs gonna add even more skins. That's the way it is. But I want to be able to support an actual game related things, like better servers, proper working audio, inspiring weekly quests and weapon mastery, anticheat community driven features like when playerbase can watch reported vods to vote if a player was cheating or not, etc, etc. There are so many possibilities, yet all we get is crappy recolors with no improvement in a right direction. It's just sad..

So many EA creators that get invited to the events have already come out and said there’s never been any mention of this sort of thing at their events so their spiel of “community feedback” is absolute nonsense.
If this game had a good anti cheat , better severs and just an overall better state of the game I’d have 0 issues with the BP changes. However that is not the case and I’ll never buy another BP again if they don’t revert it. Also like to add why not do what CoD does and if you want an upgraded version of the BP then pay for I think it’s called the BlackCell version which is $30 I think. However CoD still allows players to use their earned cod points for the same BP just not the BC version. That’s a win win for everyone. The people who want just the BP and the reactive skin can still get with their Apex Coins and the folks that want the more stuff or maybe fancier stuff can choose to upgrade with IRL currency.
Remember the big issue Respawn/EA had with Esports Organization and payouts for monetizing their skins? Yeah, no they can’t be trusted to do anything to better the community the only thing that matters to them is the shareholders, so we can sit here and lie to ourselves saying that the extra money they’ll make is to pay for better servers or anticheats but we know that’s not going to happen.
Honest to god, if they said that 70% of all profits form the battlepass were going to fixing the hacker problem and improving server issues, I would flipping do it (maybe not premium + because my god that is 40 dollars a season). While saying that, if we do not see any improvement in those areas even after 3-6 months, then I am done with the game. Even if Fortnite is cartoon-ish, at least I can play the actual game without worrying about hackers giving me backshots from across the map.
I have two points I want to make First is that a lot F2P players, like me can enjoy having cool cosmetics like the reactive gun skins thanks to the BP. The last season I only played Apex to finish the BP, because I wanted the R99 & Car reactive skin. This kept me invested in the game, unlike OW2 or Valorant where I felt that no matter how much I played I didn't get anything for my account. The other point I wanted to make is as you said people have no problem spending money if they see their money is going toward the game. Before I hated gacha games I thought why would people spend money on a PNG, but after playing Genshin and Star Rail, and others games I could see why people would spend money on them. If you haven't played any of their games you will be surprised by the amount of content they release every patch(every 6 weeks) new areas, sometime new enemies or bosses, new quests with cool cinematics, events, of course new characters, and the game rarely has any bugs or performance issues, and if there are some issues, they will give you an apology gift. Of course their are not perfect there have been a bunch of issues during the years, but I feel they have made a good work keeping the game fresh and with new content. The reason I compared these Apex and Hoyoverse games, even though they are very different games, is because in todays world there are a bunch of live service games that are asking for your money and time. Even if Apex and Star Rail are completely different games, I know a lot of people that play both games, and most of them are now spending more time on Star Rail or Genshin than in Apex. I have seen Apex streamers completely transform into Hoyoverse Streamers, because they no longer feel Apex is a good investment of time or money.
League of Legends also made battlepasses for events... which were the exact same as Apex's just there to shill out cosmetics BUT before apex made their passes have no redeeming value Leagues passes always were a one purchase only. You didnt get stuff to repurchase a pass after completing this one. You just get to spend more money on the next pass which every damn time gets nerfed with rewards having less and less and less stuff in it with the same price... then it was increased due to inflation
It's just weird, their whole approach - "Hey, we've been ignoring cheaters and everything we broke for ENTIRE SEASON, ghosting your emails, reports, false bans and whatnot but hear us out, we want MORE MONEY so we break the silence with exciting news about paying a battle pass twice a Season, have fun bb. Oh btw, we also disabled the anti cheat completely because of the false bans but don't worry enjoy dying to cheaters in every single game mode, we wont ban them, enjoy your stay". Players will ALWAYS come back to Apex for the CORE mechanics/gameplay. Not a single game out there has to offer what Apex does but keeping up with cheaters every single lobby just aint it man hence why we see all time low player count in a long while. Its not "because the game is 5 y/o" its literally because IT IS UNPLAYABLE - cheaters, crashes, ddoses (which were fixed and now again, good job). Many people STILL can't even play the game because after the mid split update they broke something and your game just freezes once you hit Continue on the main screen. There was follow up update that DID NOTHING. By the way, in case someone with that very issue (freezing on main screen) is reading this, here is the ACTUAL temporary fix the peeps at EA forum figured out (not the devs of course lol, the community) : Head over to your video config file and change the following values "setting.shadow_enable" "1" "setting.shadow_depth_dimen_min" "64" "setting.shadow_maxdynamic" "1" Your FPS will take a slight hit but at least you'll be able to play the game without restarting your pc or force ending Apex via Task Manager.
THE ONLY thing that could've saved all the drama was to announce the changes two or three seasons prior. Like dude you want money but do you realize people don't earn money each day, jobs pay you at one and just one day of the month. They're ignorant at this point, brain rot from money hunger... is like they forgot how jobs and life works.
I´ll be hapy to pay if I knew 100% that the money will go to "improve" or solve the problems that are destroying the game, but unfortunately that´s not the case :(

I have never spent a cent on the game, I have 800 apex coins and was considering buying apex coins for the first time (until I heard about these changes) so I could get the battle pass. Now I will never spend a cent on the game. So they lost money from me

They're doing this because the people who buy everything will always buy everything regardless of the price. The fact that I can't use my coins to buy concurrent battlepasses means I won't be playing Apex as much anymore if ever again. They want us to buy 2 battlepasses a season and we can't use the coins we have already built up? That is crazy.
Yeah, this is tricky. It's a raff change, especially for veterans in Apex who spend coins for each new BP. On the other hand, if someone bought just one BP and then recycled it during the years played for 4-5k or more hours, these players are still very costly to devs and probably spend more resources than supported with the $10 purchase. I do understand this from a business POV. However, the changes cannot happen without serious fixes upfront for some of the issues and a clear timeline for future upgrades. If this came with significant improvements, I would be happy to buy some split BPs, and I don't need to buy every split, etc. From a business POV, this is a good decision which may help reduce predatory event sales, where EA needed to sell cosmetics to get revenue gains; with this BP, the cash flow could also be more predictable and more reflected as a sentiment of the player base, i.e. voting system, so they would need to make the game better, more fun etc. while possibly be less predatory with huge events that cost $300 to cover costs and reach revenue goals from 5-10% of player base if that makes sense. Also, Premium+ is significant from a new player's POV; unlocking all legends for 1-2 splits while getting legend coins is better than buying 1-2, maybe more legends using 1000 or so AC. I see P+ only as good from a new player POV, where my positivity would be that some new player onboarding strategies and better SBMM should also follow. However, this would work only if they are looking for a more stable cash flow than now and looking to improve the game. The game is dead if the intention is just revenue with no changes and still $300 events without serious improvements. Period! P.S. 99% of players would probably disagree with my view here.
I think more people would have been more open to this battlepass change if they would have made the cost for both splits a total of $10. Even if you could only pay cash I think it would be more passable to be able to max out a split if you're busy with life stuff and also get more quality content from the battlepass instead of a lot of filler. Either way its not a change anybody wanted and 100% a cash grab and the state of the game and current drops in average players, this seems like a ballsy move.
Time is money and the battle pass rewarded players for their time by giving them Apex coins back so they can keep investing their time into the game every season and it rewarded EA because it keeps their player base higher. I really hope EA goes back on their decision, but when companies say "we don't make this decision lightly" they usually have already made up their minds unfortunately.
Season 15 marked a big decrease in my playtime, couldn't believe how long EA/Respawn let a PC crashing bug persist aqnd removal of Arena cut my playtime down even further, bad luck my friends and I were enjoying that game mode.

So I do agree with the thought, that if they were actually fixing the issues and their restructures of the game didn't suck, than they could better justify changes in price tags. Saddly, I can't see my self dropping money on the battle pass, the game is already on a decline and the fact that they would rather focus on the short term, and not the long term, tells me they just wanna squeeze out every cent they can before it dies. Though, If the issues were fixed, the game would be around longer and ppl like me would most likely buy more stuff.
After over 3k hours in the game I have one heirloom, at least one legendary gun and character skin with every gun and character and tons of reactive skins...I think I personally won't miss the battle pass anyway.😂😂😂
I usually spend all or half my earned coins and buy a small pack each season and rebuy the battlepass. I'm not even fussed they stopped me rebuying with coins, but the fact they doubled the price... Nope, not contributing to that. I have my double heirloom Loba already from rng packs so I'm happy
The thing is apex is already profitable. It’s a choice by ea not to reinvest into the game vs milk it harder. I think that is shortsighted and it would be a win win to add more content and micro-transactions at the same time. We haven’t reach the content saturation point yet, so they need to invest more to make more money
If this money turned around and 100% fixed the issues plaguing the game I think a lot would be for it... But we alllll know these issues today will still be around 6months down the road and into 2025 which is why we're all pissed.
That's not how it works, the BP rewards are already calculated in the overall business so everything is prized according to the costs-product-customer chain. Besides, the BP is a tool made to encourage engagement and playtime so overall the argument of how much value we get with the BP is completely empty. Nobody ever gift you anything, it's all integrated in the broader business model
To answer your question at the end; no, I still wouldn't be OK with this being implemented at all, even with the game itself being fixed because it's a paid subscription being forced into a game (just like Siege), 80% of Apex skins are ugly and it already costs $135 in my country to do one 'collection event' here BEFORE they started doing shit like the deathbox cosmetics. The game is clearly not intended for players who have no money now as it is when a single 'event' costs $10 more than a new release AAA game for a single weapon for one character and a smattering of skins and cosmetics for legends I probably don't like - and they hold at least 3 of these each year. It's too much now. I was tolerant of all the bullshit because the game was fun. If the game was fun again with all of the proper fixes, it now wouldn't be enough to keep me involved anyway because this is stupid. They're literally just trying to find more and more ways to take more and more money with less and less effort, so I'm done.
The fact that I’m a broke parent and only had to spend the money once on a BP and was able to actually play a BP every season and still have fun. But now I have to spend real world $ again I’ll probably never get to buy the BP again and sadly will probably be more inclined to play more Minecraft sadly
I am A S0 player. I would not care at all about the battle pass changes or cometic cash grabs if they took the time to fix the core game. They can use the excuse that the game is free to play, but Fortnite has changed everything about their game on multiple occasions, while also doing events and keeping the player base engaged.
Somehow, the main point of Battle Pass is that "items are worth so much Apex coins, than if you convert those 'coin cost of all items' into real money, it's the same value as if you've bought a Porsche". Owning does not mean you can sell that => Value fades drastically when owned. So basically, you're tricked :) But my point is simple: We went from 'Battle Pass that stimulated player online time' to 'Battle Pass which we want you to buy everytime' ". And yeah, with all the game problems, this decision was extremely poorly delivered. I'm happy that Apex shifted to a side game for me, although hat some point i was addicted (back when audio was okish and cheaters were not that of an issue)
Who knows if they are gonna pay attention to this feedback and revert the changes (or even don't apply them at all), but if they do - I'm afraid it's gonna end up the same way Rocket League did under Epic Games, nothing but decline...
I’m going to be honest, even if all the problems that have been stacking up for the last couple years would get solved, I still wouldn’t spend 20$, or even worse 40$ on Apex every like 3 months. I’d be willing to spend $10 or maybe sometimes $20 if that would cover the price of both Battle Passes. But in the end it would still feel like a scam as most other games have the option to just grind the Pass and buy the next one with the currency earned. The only games that I feel like a real money Pass could be justified are where instead of cheap cosmetics you get in game progression rewards.
If I knew what it was going towards, I'd be less mad, but still not find it acceptable. $20 a season is absurd for a battlepass, and other games do it much better. I'd rather they would do some or all of these below, which actually come from Rainbow 6. Charge a small one time fee, maybe $5, for the base game or to play ranked. Cheaters would probably pay the most for this, so cool. Make the $10 cost for one battlepass, for the whole seasons battlepasses. This could be either 2 payments of $5, or one full payment of $10, and give 10% in store items. Keep the cost as apex coins, BUT, reduce the amount you receive in each battlepass, again similar to some other games. That way, you're basically rewarded a discount for playing on the next battlepass, if you save the coins, but will still theoretically have to buy more coins for the pass. Obviously best case is don't charge us at all, but these are more compromise answers.
It's not the fact that they've changed the Battle Pass but that it's what they have changed. As we know, the game is flawed and it needs fixing but all we receive are cosmetics and unnecessary changes. As you stated at the end, yes people wouldn't be as mad if the game was working fine and most would be inclined to spend money on the game. Apex, being in the state that it is, shouldn't have received this change. Once again, EA at its peak performance, killing Respawn Entertainment.
Economics are cost benefit driven. Depending on tier it's anywhere between $180-$360 per year by my math for this battle pass. Do I want what comes from that with 0 improvements to the game, or do I want 3-6 other games? I love apex but it's not so much better than other games to warrant that for me
1) I strongly think this might be a classic sells technique of over inflating your price. Then when the customer negotiate with you, they feel like they’ve won and you actually get the amount that you wanted. I would not be surprised if EA is doing the same thing here. Making everybody upset, then they lower the cost and then all the players think that they’ve won when it’s actually EA who’s won. Don’t get me wrong. I think it should be a win-win for everybody, but this is just a sales technique to me. 2) It’s sad to say this, but at this point, I would actually pay some money to get fresh content, real true working anti-cheat, proper matchmaking, fixes, etc. etc. 3) $10 a split, that’s gonna come out to around $60-$80 per year to play the game. For a lot of people, and especially since most people play multiple games that’s a lot. 4) No, I do not plan on buying any battle passes. In all honesty, I’ve only purchased battle passes within in game currency since around season four. 4) Setting a lot of things aside, I find that The majority of the skins in the battle pass are just plain crap, and look stupid! A lot of the skins that I still use are from seasons, 1-4 because I haven’t found anything that I really like, or looks good.
If there was no issues with Apex and fun to play players would've been okay paying $20-40 per season because the game fun to play and in healthy state but reality is Apex is not fun to play atm and have so many issues and players do not waste money on a game that has so many issues
Hot take, but I think EA knows there's not a lot they can do about the hacking situation. When everyone from the average player to HisWattson is talking about switching games, it would make sense to double charge whoever decides to stick around.

I hate the presumption Apex is not making money. Apex is making money period. Then they cut down staff, close branches and keep raising the price on skins (Gacha system). Recycling old skins to a point I wanna throw up. There is no new content season after season, perpetuating the idea new skins is content and hackers. Everything combined this game feels more like a headache than something to enjoy in my free time. Last logged in 5 months ago and I have been happier since. Screw EA ,Respawn and their greed. Stickers and trackers should not be a thing. Stickers and little things like that are simply items to increase the loot pool, so it makes it harder to get an epic reward or heirloom.
I wonder if this is a last money grab before they scuttle the game. We’ve seen it before, and people have assumed that the money grab lead to the game dying. But maybe that’s the writing on the wall in the CEO’s office already. So why not make some money on the way out. Sure, it dies faster, but that only saves them money on servers, and in return they get twice the money in less time.

If I can actually see the game or the comp scene being improved upon then I'd be fine w/ it and would have more patience/faith in them but it's pretty hard to give them the benefit of the doubt when they're trying to gaslight players saying, "This new BP system is for your benefit".
3:21 this is one of the reasons why i kept reinstalling apex and even spent on it, but the cheaters this season is just worse than prior seasons by far. A better anticheat and fixed audio issues of course would be worth it. But as you said, it's obviously not what this is and will be about. None of that will be going back into the game and the fact they lied about the community feedback is honestly just revolting. So unless they revert it or straight up actually give us what the game so desperately needs in exchange for the dosh, this is just a disgusting cashgrab that will cost them very dearly. Every game has whales with bottomless loyalty, but that is not only too very minor part of the community to be able to pay for the game the same way it has up until now; it can also cost them playing populations and free word of mouth from creators that will just move on. My issues have always been the servers and matchmaking and since i play on xbox not cheaters as much until lately. I know im not going to buy the battlepass if it doesnt have something i really want now, when i did it b4 just for the crafting materials cuz i cuz use the coins from my last one. I've been playing since season 10 and i have spent about 200-250 dollars on this game but at this point i only buy something if i know im not going to buy anything else for the same legend or gun later on
Paying each season makes sense to me. This is how they make money from the game, take Fortnite for example they have doing this for years, not seeing anyone complaining there. But creating two battle pas per season is just wrong. Respawn are also not communicating anything about the cheaters problem. Not doing anything to improve their servers (which are dog shit). Yesterday my game crashed in ranked because of a "server error" and I did not manage to continue playing because of “abandoning the match” respawn should fix the game ASAP.

honestly I like the idea that the battle pass skins aren't permanently exclusive. because that would allow to buy the skins you like and only the ones you like without needing to buy and grind out a battlepass. First of all, any price increase after Respawn/EA's sluggishness or outright refusal to respond to major issues plaguing the game is unjustifiable. However, I might be in the minority in that I would be willing to pay for a seasonal battle pass, IF the value was there. I have spent I think $15 on this game, and I am a day one player. I feel like I've gotten my money's worth and then some. The issue has been, outside of the battle pass, every add-on is unethically overpriced. Like... I would be willing to pay $1 or $2 for any given item on the store page. So the additional apex coins don't sway me. I would be willing to pay $7.50 or $10 for the battle pass per season, NOT per split. The battle pass now essentially costs $80 per year. For $80, you could buy Baldurs Gate 3 and have money left over. And these are not guaranteed rewards. These are rewards that are only earned through remaining relatively highly engaged with the game, during which time they are going to advertise more overpriced add-ons to you. I need something to look forward to after playing this game for 5 years. I value player customization, so being priced out of the battle pass is killing my enthusiasm for this game.

Your valuations for the items received from the battle pass are not exactly accurate. Most of the shit earned is just crap and it's not like you get a skin of choice. It doesn't help that most skins are not to my taste, and I'm certainly never going to spend $30cdn on a skin. I do look for opportunities to support the game financially, but I really don't care about skins. Plus, as a below average player, I'm too pissed off being put in matches as the fodder just so that good players can beat crap out of me. I'll keep playing, but fuck the battle pass and all the crap that comes with it.
While I've always played Apex for a season or 2 and then stopped for 2 or 3 seasons bc I get burnt out, I've defended apex througj alot of controversy, But this killed the game for me for sure. I think I played for a few hours at the start of this season but stopped because once again Respawn removes core game modes(Duos) for dumb takeover garbage(Solos/quads) I just wanna play Duos. I refuse to play Trios because randoms and I just feel like there's too much going on (which means quads is definitely out of the question) but this has ensured I won't be returning. And you know what? Who's to say the legendary skins you get in the new pass format would even be any good lol. You think They're gonna work very hard on 2 legendary skins for $10? 😂
EA are multi billion dollar company, they ARE able to fix servers and anticheat with and without changing the battlepass system. The truth is that they are testing the market to see what they can get away with, and if people buy into it then this will become an industry standard for other games.

Well, I actually really like the Apex Battle Pass changes, the only thing I would change is that you can buy the Battle Pass with Apex Coins. That would be the only thing I would want. For me, one Battle Pass per split isn't so bad. I just don't think the old Battle Pass is that good because it has far too many rare skins, audios, emotes...etc, only one legendary weapon skin and two legendary legend skins. The one Battle Pass per split system means there are more legendary weapons and legend skins, and with the Premium+ there are also two legendary color variant skins. Even if the two legendary color variant skins end up in the store after a year or so, I still think it's better in some ways than the old Battle Pass system. The only thing I don't like about the new Battle Pass is that you can't buy it with Apex Coins. In my opinion, Respawn and EA should just make the new battle pass purchasable with apex coins like the old battle pass. But we all know EA. We can only hope that EA and Respawn listen to us and at least switch the $10 and $20 back to apex coins. What I also really hope is that EA and Respawn bring back normal collection events so that the crafting metals from the battle pass are worth more.

Apex is such a great game that its actually mind boggling that they fail at selling content to users. If they actually provided good content from cosmetics at REASONABLE prices. The community wouldn't be acting like this. Somehow they fuck it up.

Why would people spend money in a game just to die to cheaters, have their game crashing non stop and whatnot? Its not surprising they fail to sell content, the game keeps getting worse and worse every single season. They should've figured the cause of false bans long ago and turned the AC back on, instead they manually ban handful of cheaters here and there which doesnt even scratch the surface and thats only if they themselves encounter them (i know this may sound shocking but some devs do indeed play the game, i met one just few days ago). Even streamers can't get cheaters banned recently which is...truly shocking.
The driving force behind why its so bad is because they removed the option to use coins.

I don't really care about two splits and content within, it just sucks that free players are being tossed aside.
I could maybe get on board if they continue the challenges (as they plan to for the first ever split) in place of the coin transactions. Even if they open it up to cost 2400 crafting metals/10 exotic shards as some sort of alternative currency. That way they can continue bringing attention to the store through rewarding otherwise useless coins, while maintaining a free-if-completed option.
The main problem is that the entire rewarding players that buy in and play the game is gone. I’m not the hardest core player but I’ve been around since season 2 and my wife and I have 2K+ hours into the game. We’ve uninstalled over this and won’t come back unless they revert it. I agree the transparency and trust of where they spend the money is the biggest problem.
They’ve had years to fix the audio, server, and CHEATER issues in the game. Now they’re raising prices because the “community” wants it? Nope. Not what we want.

No. Completely wrong, the battlepass itself is a joke. It's predatory. A lot of us play on console where the cheating issue simply isn't a problem. I've got 5000 hours and can probably count on one hand the amount of suspicious activity I've seen.
I could care less if the game wasn't super popular, I do care about predatory practices. I have rolled my battlepass from season 1, I have sunk cost, they are strong arming me to carry on by changing the rules. It's predatory.
The timing with the current state of Apex legends on PC isn't a good one, but it's just a compounder of the issue, which is the battlepass.
There are 3 problems with justification, first, they didn't specify they are gonna spend more on improvements to the game. There is no guarantee BP money will be spent on new content and servers.
Second, the very first thing those goblins are gonna think about is to cut the budget on the cosmetic team so respawn won't be able to create high quality cosmetics and will start making recolors and reusing old skins instead of creating new ones.
Third, the best thing about this BP is crafting shards and Apex coins, which everyone will save up for collection events, The problem is respawn and EA will lose incentive to create new heirlooms and skin, they would try selling recolored heirlooms over and over. Creating heirlooms is the way this game made money up until this point so there will be no motivation to create good stuff.
Mark my words, the new it's gonna be backlash because of the 20 dollar price tag, they will reduce it to 10 maybe so players feel a false sense of success in this David vs Goliath kind of battle. This is the intention of EA, people.
Solution? Apex legends is too big to fail, with low income they won't just shut down the servers, we have to force EA to give up on apex and respawn so somebody buys respawn or it goes public. GOD I WISH I WAS A BILLIONAIRE.

The timing of this Battle Pass (and the BS about it being based on community feedback) when the game is in the state that it is couldn't be worse. Respawn is completely silent on cheaters, terrible servers, the game crashing every other game, countless bugs, etc. but tells us they're listening to the community when it comes to spending more money on the game... come on man.
I don't really care about skins and just playing game. But they should have done it, one pass with coins like we used to and then add premium versions for those who have money to waste.
I would be willing to spend some money on the battle pass but going from having to pay 10$ one time to having to pay 20$ per season is just insane.
Having an option to pay 700 coins and 2,5$ (and don't having a split) would be fair IMO.

I really don't understand how they can push something like this without even expending one breath, about the massive cheater issue or the fact that pubs is just awful if you play by your self. Like are they that out of touch with the player base? Wouldn't you think people would want to stick around in apex more if there were more ltms added as permanent modes. Just adding more outlets for people to enjoy if one game mode just isn't hitting for them at that moment? are they afraid of dividing the player base? When in reality, chances are that there would just be more people playing in general. I don't get where they missed the fact that a game that is fun across all the modes that could be available would drive player retention, and therefore drive revenue so much more.
I loved Apex and in many ways still do, but I quit in season 17 after it was clear that Respawn and EA don't give a shit about their community besides their wallets. All that they have continued to do as proven to me is that I was correct in that assessment. I would genuinely feel embarrassed to call myself a respawn developer if I worked there. The Titan Fall/early Apex era Respawn is dead, and they are too successful to try anymore.
They should have just made it harder to earn enough coins to buy the next pass, so more people would have to buy coins occasionally. This would also increase engagement. Or at least allow you to use coins to reduce the real money cost. They chose a really bad way to do things.
If I buy skins then devs gonna add even more skins. That's the way it is. So many EA creators that get invited to the events have already come out and said there’s never been any mention of this sort of thing at their events so their spiel of “community feedback” is absolute nonsense.
If this game had a good anti cheat , better severs and just an overall better state of the game I’d have 0 issues with the BP changes. However that is not the case and I’ll never buy another BP again if they don’t revert it. Also like to add why not do what CoD does and if you want an upgraded version of the BP then pay for I think it’s called the BlackCell version which is $30 I think. However CoD still allows players to use their earned cod points for the same BP just not the BC version. That’s a win win for everyone. The people who want just the BP and the reactive skin can still get with their Apex Coins and the folks that want the more stuff or maybe fancier stuff can choose to upgrade with IRL currency.
Remember the big issue Respawn/EA had with Esports Organization and payouts for monetizing their skins? Yeah, no they can’t be trusted to do anything to better the community the only thing that matters to them is the shareholders, so we can sit here and lie to ourselves saying that the extra money they’ll make is to pay for better servers or anticheats but we know that’s not going to happen.

Honest to god, if they said that 70% of all profits form the battlepass were going to fixing the hacker problem and improving server issues, I would flipping do it (maybe not premium + because my god that is 40 dollars a season). While saying that, if we do not see any improvement in those areas even after 3-6 months, then I am done with the game. Even if Fortnite is cartoon-ish, at least I can play the actual game without worrying about hackers giving me backshots from across the map.

I have two points I want to make
First is that a lot F2P players, like me can enjoy having cool cosmetics like the reactive gun skins thanks to the BP. The last season I only played Apex to finish the BP, because I wanted the R99 & Car reactive skin. This kept me invested in the game, unlike OW2 or Valorant where I felt that no matter how much I played I didn't get anything for my account.
The other point I wanted to make is as you said people have no problem spending money if they see their money is going toward the game. Before I hated gacha games I thought why would people spend money on a PNG, but after playing Genshin and Star Rail, and others games I could see why people would spend money on them. If you haven't played any of their games you will be surprised by the amount of content they release every patch(every 6 weeks) new areas, sometime new enemies or bosses, new quests with cool cinematics, events, of course new characters, and the game rarely has any bugs or performance issues, and if there are some issues, they will give you an apology gift. Of course their are not perfect there have been a bunch of issues during the years, but I feel they have made a good work keeping the game fresh and with new content.
The reason I compared these Apex and Hoyoverse games, even though they are very different games, is because in todays world there are a bunch of live service games that are asking for your money and time. Even if Apex and Star Rail are completely different games, I know a lot of people that play both games, and most of them are now spending more time on Star Rail or Genshin than in Apex. I have seen Apex streamers completely transform into Hoyoverse Streamers, because they no longer feel Apex is a good investment of time or money.

It's just weird, their whole approach - "Hey, we've been ignoring cheaters and everything we broke for ENTIRE SEASON, ghosting your emails, reports, false bans and whatnot but hear us out, we want MORE MONEY so we break the silence with exciting news about paying a battle pass twice a Season, have fun bb. Oh btw, we also disabled the anti cheat completely because of the false bans but don't worry enjoy dying to cheaters in every single game mode, we wont ban them, enjoy your stay".
Players will ALWAYS come back to Apex for the CORE mechanics/gameplay. Not a single game out there has to offer what Apex does but keeping up with cheaters every single lobby just aint it man hence why we see all time low player count in a long while. Its not "because the game is 5 y/o" its literally because IT IS UNPLAYABLE - cheaters, crashes, ddoses (which were fixed and now again, good job). Many people STILL can't even play the game because after the mid split update they broke something and your game just freezes once you hit Continue on the main screen. There was follow up update that DID NOTHING.
By the way, in case someone with that very issue (freezing on main screen) is reading this, here is the ACTUAL temporary fix the peeps at EA forum figured out (not the devs of course lol, the community) : Head over to your video config file and change the following values

Your FPS will take a slight hit but at least you'll be able to play the game without restarting your pc or force ending Apex via Task Manager.
THE ONLY thing that could've saved all the drama was to announce the changes two or three seasons prior. Like dude you want money but do you realize people don't earn money each day, jobs pay you at one and just one day of the month. They're ignorant at this point, brain rot from money hunger... is like they forgot how jobs and life works.
I´ll be hapy to pay if I knew 100% that the money will go to "improve" or solve the problems that are destroying the game, but unfortunately that´s not the case :(

Yeah, this is tricky. It's a raff change, especially for veterans in Apex who spend coins for each new BP. On the other hand, if someone bought just one BP and then recycled it during the years played for 4-5k or more hours, these players are still very costly to devs and probably spend more resources than supported with the $10 purchase. I do understand this from a business POV. However, the changes cannot happen without serious fixes upfront for some of the issues and a clear timeline for future upgrades. If this came with significant improvements, I would be happy to buy some split BPs, and I don't need to buy every split, etc. From a business POV, this is a good decision which may help reduce predatory event sales, where EA needed to sell cosmetics to get revenue gains; with this BP, the cash flow could also be more predictable and more reflected as a sentiment of the player base, i.e. voting system, so they would need to make the game better, more fun etc. while possibly be less predatory with huge events that cost $300 to cover costs and reach revenue goals from 5-10% of player base if that makes sense.
Also, Premium+ is significant from a new player's POV; unlocking all legends for 1-2 splits while getting legend coins is better than buying 1-2, maybe more legends using 1000 or so AC. I see P+ only as good from a new player POV, where my positivity would be that some new player onboarding strategies and better SBMM should also follow.
However, this would work only if they are looking for a more stable cash flow than now and looking to improve the game. The game is dead if the intention is just revenue with no changes and still $300 events without serious improvements. Period!
P.S. 99% of players would probably disagree with my view here.
I think more people would have been more open to this battlepass change if they would have made the cost for both splits a total of $10. Even if you could only pay cash I think it would be more passable to be able to max out a split if you're busy with life stuff and also get more quality content from the battlepass instead of a lot of filler. Either way its not a change anybody wanted and 100% a cash grab and the state of the game and current drops in average players, this seems like a ballsy move.
Time is money and the battle pass rewarded players for their time by giving them Apex coins back so they can keep investing their time into the game every season and it rewarded EA because it keeps their player base higher. I really hope EA goes back on their decision, but when companies say "we don't make this decision lightly" they usually have already made up their minds unfortunately.
Season 15 marked a big decrease in my playtime, couldn't believe how long EA/Respawn let a PC crashing bug persist aqnd removal of Arena cut my playtime down even further, bad luck my friends and I were enjoying that game mode.

Saddly, I can't see my self dropping money on the battle pass, the game is already on a decline and the fact that they would rather focus on the short term, and not the long term, tells me they just wanna squeeze out every cent they can before it dies.
Though, If the issues were fixed, the game would be around longer and ppl like me would most likely buy more stuff.
After over 3k hours in the game I have one heirloom, at least one legendary gun and character skin with every gun and character and tons of reactive skins...I think I personally won't miss the battle pass anyway.😂😂😂
I usually spend all or half my earned coins and buy a small pack each season and rebuy the battlepass. I'm not even fussed they stopped me rebuying with coins, but the fact they doubled the price... Nope, not contributing to that. I have my double heirloom Loba already from rng packs so I'm happy

The thing is apex is already profitable. It’s a choice by ea not to reinvest into the game vs milk it harder.
I think that is shortsighted and it would be a win win to add more content and micro-transactions at the same time.
We haven’t reach the content saturation point yet, so they need to invest more to make more money
If this money turned around and 100% fixed the issues plaguing the game I think a lot would be for it... But we alllll know these issues today will still be around 6months down the road and into 2025 which is why we're all pissed.
That's not how it works, the BP rewards are already calculated in the overall business so everything is prized according to the costs-product-customer chain.
Besides, the BP is a tool made to encourage engagement and playtime so overall the argument of how much value we get with the BP is completely empty. Nobody ever gift you anything, it's all integrated in the broader business model
To answer your question at the end; no, I still wouldn't be OK with this being implemented at all, even with the game itself being fixed because it's a paid subscription being forced into a game (just like Siege), 80% of Apex skins are ugly and it already costs $135 in my country to do one 'collection event' here BEFORE they started doing shit like the deathbox cosmetics. The game is clearly not intended for players who have no money now as it is when a single 'event' costs $10 more than a new release AAA game for a single weapon for one character and a smattering of skins and cosmetics for legends I probably don't like - and they hold at least 3 of these each year.
It's too much now. I was tolerant of all the bullshit because the game was fun. If the game was fun again with all of the proper fixes, it now wouldn't be enough to keep me involved anyway because this is stupid.
They're literally just trying to find more and more ways to take more and more money with less and less effort, so I'm done.
The fact that I’m a broke parent and only had to spend the money once on a BP and was able to actually play a BP every season and still have fun. But now I have to spend real world $ again I’ll probably never get to buy the BP again and sadly will probably be more inclined to play more Minecraft sadly
I am A S0 player. I would not care at all about the battle pass changes or cometic cash grabs if they took the time to fix the core game. They can use the excuse that the game is free to play, but Fortnite has changed everything about their game on multiple occasions, while also doing events and keeping the player base engaged.
Somehow, the main point of Battle Pass is that "items are worth so much Apex coins, than if you convert those 'coin cost of all items' into real money, it's the same value as if you've bought a Porsche".
Owning does not mean you can sell that => Value fades drastically when owned. So basically, you're tricked :)
But my point is simple:
We went from 'Battle Pass that stimulated player online time' to 'Battle Pass which we want you to buy everytime' ".
And yeah, with all the game problems, this decision was extremely poorly delivered.
I'm happy that Apex shifted to a side game for me, although hat some point i was addicted (back when audio was okish and cheaters were not that of an issue)
Who knows if they are gonna pay attention to this feedback and revert the changes (or even don't apply them at all), but if they do - I'm afraid it's gonna end up the same way Rocket League did under Epic Games, nothing but decline...
I’m going to be honest, even if all the problems that have been stacking up for the last couple years would get solved, I still wouldn’t spend 20$, or even worse 40$ on Apex every like 3 months. I’d be willing to spend $10 or maybe sometimes $20 if that would cover the price of both Battle Passes. But in the end it would still feel like a scam as most other games have the option to just grind the Pass and buy the next one with the currency earned. The only games that I feel like a real money Pass could be justified are where instead of cheap cosmetics you get in game progression rewards.

If I knew what it was going towards, I'd be less mad, but still not find it acceptable. $20 a season is absurd for a battlepass, and other games do it much better. I'd rather they would do some or all of these below, which actually come from Rainbow 6.
Charge a small one time fee, maybe $5, for the base game or to play ranked. Cheaters would probably pay the most for this, so cool.
Make the $10 cost for one battlepass, for the whole seasons battlepasses. This could be either 2 payments of $5, or one full payment of $10, and give 10% in store items.
Keep the cost as apex coins, BUT, reduce the amount you receive in each battlepass, again similar to some other games. That way, you're basically rewarded a discount for playing on the next battlepass, if you save the coins, but will still theoretically have to buy more coins for the pass.
Obviously best case is don't charge us at all, but these are more compromise answers.
It's not the fact that they've changed the Battle Pass but that it's what they have changed. As we know, the game is flawed and it needs fixing but all we receive are cosmetics and unnecessary changes. As you stated at the end, yes people wouldn't be as mad if the game was working fine and most would be inclined to spend money on the game. Apex, being in the state that it is, shouldn't have received this change. Once again, EA at its peak performance, killing Respawn Entertainment.
Economics are cost benefit driven. Depending on tier it's anywhere between $180-$360 per year by my math for this battle pass. Do I want what comes from that with 0 improvements to the game, or do I want 3-6 other games? I love apex but it's not so much better than other games to warrant that for me
The question being posed at the end boils down to: Would you pay for value? The answer is always yes for me.
1) I strongly think this might be a classic sells technique of over inflating your price. Then when the customer negotiate with you, they feel like they’ve won and you actually get the amount that you wanted. I would not be surprised if EA is doing the same thing here. Making everybody upset, then they lower the cost and then all the players think that they’ve won when it’s actually EA who’s won. Don’t get me wrong. I think it should be a win-win for everybody, but this is just a sales technique to me. 2) It’s sad to say this, but at this point, I would actually pay some money to get fresh content, real true working anti-cheat, proper matchmaking, fixes, etc. etc. 3) $10 a split, that’s gonna come out to around $60-$80 per year to play the game. For a lot of people, and especially since most people play multiple games that’s a lot. 4) No, I do not plan on buying any battle passes. In all honesty, I’ve only purchased battle passes within in game currency since around season four. 4) Setting a lot of things aside, I find that The majority of the skins in the battle pass are just plain crap, and look stupid! A lot of the skins that I still use are from seasons, 1-4 because I haven’t found anything that I really like, or looks good.
If there was no issues with Apex and fun to play players would've been okay paying $20-40 per season because the game fun to play and in healthy state but reality is Apex is not fun to play atm and have so many issues and players do not waste money on a game that has so many issues
Hot take, but I think EA knows there's not a lot they can do about the hacking situation. When everyone from the average player to HisWattson is talking about switching games, it would make sense to double charge whoever decides to stick around.
Here's the thing: The battlepass doesn't even provide anything other than chores to unlock even more cosmetics and they only care about their investors.
I hate the presumption Apex is not making money. Apex is making money period. Then they cut down staff, close branches and keep raising the price on skins (Gacha system). Recycling old skins to a point I wanna throw up. There is no new content season after season, perpetuating the idea new skins is content and hackers. Everything combined this game feels more like a headache than something to enjoy in my free time. Last logged in 5 months ago and I have been happier since. Screw EA ,Respawn and their greed. Stickers and trackers should not be a thing. Stickers and little things like that are simply items to increase the loot pool, so it makes it harder to get an epic reward or heirloom.
I wonder if this is a last money grab before they scuttle the game. We’ve seen it before, and people have assumed that the money grab lead to the game dying. But maybe that’s the writing on the wall in the CEO’s office already. So why not make some money on the way out. Sure, it dies faster, but that only saves them money on servers, and in return they get twice the money in less time.

13:02 sht would still suck but at least I would be able to play the game w/out worrying about lag/server issues or an anti-cheat error randomly kicking me out of my game and not being able to reconnect for whatever reason. If I can actually see the game or the comp scene being improved upon then I'd be fine w/ it and would have more patience/faith in them but it's pretty hard to give them the benefit of the doubt when they're trying to gaslight players saying, "This new BP system is for your benefit".
3:21 this is one of the reasons why i kept reinstalling apex and even spent on it, but the cheaters this season is just worse than prior seasons by far. I went on a 2 weeks vacay and hop on back just to meet a cheating wraith...I'm just disappointed and a bit angry that EA thinks we're as dumb as cod players
A better anticheat and fixed audio issues of course would be worth it. But as you said, it's obviously not what this is and will be about. None of that will be going back into the game and the fact they lied about the community feedback is honestly just revolting. So unless they revert it or straight up actually give us what the game so desperately needs in exchange for the dosh, this is just a disgusting cashgrab that will cost them very dearly. Every game has whales with bottomless loyalty, but that is not only too very minor part of the community to be able to pay for the game the same way it has up until now; it can also cost them playing populations and free word of mouth from creators that will just move on. Seriously a ridiculously dumb decision on whoever decided to make that call.

My issues have always been the servers and matchmaking and since i play on xbox not cheaters as much until lately. I know im not going to buy the battlepass if it doesnt have something i really want now, when i did it b4 just for the crafting materials cuz i cuz use the coins from my last one. I've been playing since season 10 and i have spent about 200-250 dollars on this game but at this point i only buy something if i know im not going to buy anything else for the same legend or gun later on

Paying each season makes sense to me. This is how they make money from the game, take Fortnite for example they have doing this for years, not seeing anyone complaining there. But creating two battle pas per season is just wrong. Respawn are also not communicating anything about the cheaters problem. Not doing anything to improve their servers (which are dog shit). Yesterday my game crashed in ranked because of a "server error" and I did not manage to continue playing because of “abandoning the match” respawn should fix the game ASAP.
They basically just want to bring old 'limited " skins back and charge for them because they're too lazy to make new ones.

@@Dazs Cheating is MAIN problem ATM in game they should implant New Anti-Cheat system (point Valorant - it should work like there. Cheater detected game terminated and people dont lose points etc.). Second most problem is state of Servers (stable ping, stable FPS but game start to jitter and some warning start to pop). After they made those 2 changes they could change BP system and people wouldnt complain so much like RN

honestly I like the idea that the battle pass skins aren't permanently exclusive. because that would allow to buy the skins you like and only the ones you like without needing to buy and grind out a battlepass. I don't like battlepasses because they are like: I pay you money so I'm invested in playing your game so i can get all the stuff from the pass i paid for.
First of all, any price increase after Respawn/EA's sluggishness or outright refusal to respond to major issues plaguing the game is unjustifiable. However, I might be in the minority in that I would be willing to pay for a seasonal battle pass, IF the value was there. I have spent I think $15 on this game, and I am a day one player. I feel like I've gotten my money's worth and then some. The issue has been, outside of the battle pass, every add-on is unethically overpriced. Like... I would be willing to pay $1 or $2 for any given item on the store page. So the additional apex coins don't sway me. I would be willing to pay $7.50 or $10 for the battle pass per season, NOT per split. The battle pass now essentially costs $80 per year. For $80, you could buy Baldurs Gate 3 and have money left over. And these are not guaranteed rewards. These are rewards that are only earned through remaining relatively highly engaged with the game, during which time they are going to advertise more overpriced add-ons to you. I need something to look forward to after playing this game for 5 years. I value player customization, so being priced out of the battle pass is killing my enthusiasm for this game.

Your valuations for the items received from the battle pass are not exactly accurate. Most of the shit earned is just crap and it's not like you get a skin of choice. It doesn't help that most skins are not to my taste, and I'm certainly never going to spend $30cdn on a skin. I do look for opportunities to support the game financially, but I really don't care about skins. Plus, as a below average player, I'm too pissed off being put in matches as the fodder just so that good players can beat crap out of me. I'll keep playing, but fuck the battle pass and all the crap that comes with it.

While I've always played Apex for a season or 2 and then stopped for 2 or 3 seasons bc I get burnt out, I've defended apex througj alot of controversy, But this killed the game for me for sure. I think I played for a few hours at the start of this season but stopped because once again Respawn removes core game modes(Duos) for dumb takeover garbage(Solos/quads) I just wanna play Duos. I refuse to play Trios because randoms and I just feel like there's too much going on (which means quads is definitely out of the question) but this has ensured I won't be returning. And you know what? Who's to say the legendary skins you get in the new pass format would even be any good lol. You think They're gonna work very hard on 2 legendary skins for $10? 😂
EA are multi billion dollar company, they ARE able to fix servers and anticheat with and without changing the battlepass system. The truth is that they are testing the market to see what they can get away with, and if people buy into it then this will become an industry standard for other games.
