    People need to quit tripping on how this guy looks. He's a man performing a skillful job, and lending assistance to those who have interest in the field of welding. A company that hires based on the appearance of an employee, rather than the performance of their skill set, is a company that won't go very far. Some of the best welders I ever met looked quite rough, but could lay down the most perfect beads. Hire on performance and experience, not appearance and pointless aesthetics.

      Jesse Borders yea I don't get it either. He seems like a personable guy and obviously very knowledgeable so who gives a shit about his tattoos. I don't think any customers are gonna say "omg he's got tattoos I'm not buying his products". What people don't like is some pretty boy who has no clue what they're talking about but think they've got a silver tongue.

      Anybody who takes the time to explain in great detail stuff to beginners and all the gochas, is cool as hell and cute too. Kindness and intelligence transfer is super sexy. It's pretty much where most guys fail... too busy showing off their intelligence, not enough time conveying their intelligence. There's a big difference. The first, they learn nothing from you but that you're an arrogant prick; the second, they learn something from you and can do what you do on their own without you even around.

    An extremely good video, many thanks!! Step by step you covered all the basic aspects. I wanted to get an overview of welding how hard it is, what investment in tools, process, tips, etc and I got a lot from this. Your voice is easy to listen to, as well. I will keep Eastwood tools in mind when I start.
    This is how a DIY video tutorial should be. Very much appreciated!

    I'm new to wielding and I understand now how it works. My first time was not what I had expected. I spent like 1 hour and 40 mins for doing it over and over again. Still. The result was not that good. It was very frustrating. But then, while everyone was out for a break, which is the end lesson for us for 2 hours but then we're out early. But I didn't go, I stayed. I spent 20 mins with the person in charge which happens to be my lecturer, he showed a demo once again and when it was my turn, he said, "Let's try again, one more try before you go for a break". And then, I did what he said. I'm not a give up person and I won't give up that easily. No way. I have to push myself. But then, one last try. It's worth it than nothing at all. My lecturer watched what I did so far and said that, I've made some progress and improvement. But, as long as I keep practicing, I believe myself that I will get better and better.

    great work. exactly what I wanted. Very concise video and it explained where my welds were going foul. My only critical point is not explaining the ground a bit better. The ground scares many folk out of welding before they get started. Everybody thinks we'll shock ourselves to death with these machines. I only suggest grounding should be its own video. Thanks for the great video and goodnight.

      +Aaron McInturff Watch a lot of welding videos to get an idea on the different kinds of welding. Maybe pick up a good inexpensive welder like an everlast stick or mig welder and see if you like it and if you feel you can get good at it. It is a cheap investment to make to decide on a lifelong career. Good luck.

    Good, informative video - good clear narrative without annoying "music".
    As for the tattoos, they aren't gang or prison tat's as the more ignorant suppose but they are all common service tattoos and I would suspect the gentleman has seen his service in the NAVY. They're not my thing, especially on the hands, but you should be respecting him for his service and professionalism - certainly no reason to hold them against him.

    I'd a structural / heavy frame welder. And just some settings tips for people using a Lincoln machine. Anything under an inch think run 23.7 Amps, with 250 wire speed, forehand welds. Anything above an inch to two inches, runs a bit hotter 24.3 amps, and 275 - 280 wire speed. Anything above Two inches requires preheating, and you can actually run the 23.7 amps with 250 wire speed and back step to fill. just thought I'd share my techniques :)

    Being on a live video feed would have to play with your nerves, which is why I correct him with the utmost respect. With flux core, the flux is on the inside not the outside. That is why it is called flux "core". Not a big deal, but could be confusing for beginners. 25:48

    I just bought a Eastwood mig 135. The only time you should use flux core is outside? where can you buy the gas bottles? There's so much to learn . I wish you had a few classes in NY. You guys are AWESOME.

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  8 років тому +3

      +James Weissbach You can use flux core indoors or outdoors. If possible, use shielding gas rather than flux core wire because you will have nicer, cleaner welds. If you're outside and there is a breeze that could blow away your shielding gas and create bad welds, you can use flux core to solve the problem. You can purchase gas bottles at most welding supply stores. Thanks.

    A question about wire size..... Im trying to do a gasser streetrod build on an old 60 Comet, I have to either pretty much plate the frame and tie the front and back in with sub frame connectors or cut out the old thin frame and build one out of new tubeing which I would rather not do. My question is would .30 size wire be alright to use on the old frame while I plate it with 1/8 flat stock which is I think thicker then the frame that is already in it as stock, or should I go with a smaller wire? Thanks, and I hope I explaned this right and you know what im talking about since you do repairs like this.

    No, he shouldn't. This is enough to get started and BEGIN learning. I just bought a welder and used this video to get the basics. Bad habits are easy to pick up from teachers, too.

    nice video on what it sounds like and looks like to have it wrong settings for the gas , wire speeds or amp/volt setting. Obviously to distinguish between to high wire speed and to little gas they sound very similar but the high wire speed logically would make a taller bead on the metal surface. not sure how to tell if not enough amps/voltage yet by sound / sight. I know what ever setting I have if I get the sissle like in a sauté pan I am going to be ok

    Can u use Flux cored wire in a welder that normally uses gas

    • @orcoastgreenman
      @orcoastgreenman 7 років тому +1

      James - yes... I'm not an expert, but any wire feed MIG welder should be able to do FCAW. (Flux-cored arc welding)
      My welder is a Lincoln that was not sold with the capability to even do MIG (Metal Inert Gas), but can be upgraded with a kit that includes a solenoid controlled valve for the gas, regulator, and different nozzle end on the gun.
      Then there is flux cored wire that also requires shielding gas, dual shield flux core (I'm not sure if that one has an abbreviation like FCAW)
      My basic understanding is:
      All wire feed welder (including MIG) can do FCAW, but not all wire feed welders have the hardware to do MIG, though many can be upgraded.
      Many people use the term "MIG" incorrectly to describe any wire feed welder, regardless of whether it has the gas control system that makes a wire feed welder "MIG capable"
