Jonathan saw himself in David, remember Jonathan and his armourman defeated the enemies on faith. Well David did the same thing. Both trusted God to defeat the enemy. Both did it for the glory of God.

The fact that Pastor Gray had to clarify that the relationship between David and Jonathan wasn't sexually is actually sad. Sexually perverse people are crazy

I wish I had never heard that filth about David & Jonathan. I was so shocked and sickened when I first learned people were actually saying this. And now I can't ever get it it out of my mind. Vile perverts. How they enrage me!

Rest assured that God would have never allowed David and Jonathan to engage in homosexual behavior. David was rebuked for other sins, but not that. God bless.

All these principles yet you miss the central point of the message. A lot of your messages have been helpful and a blessing, Gary, but the core of this passage in context of God's greater Word was missed.
Goliath was clothed in scales of armor- a picture of the serpent. David crushes his head- a picture of the coming Savior who would ultimately defeat death and crush the serpent's head. Honestly, the true principles to take away from this is we are the scared Israelites, and it is God's chosen representative, David, who points to Christ, our ultimate representative who courageously defeats our enemy and fights our battle. Only then do we, like the Israelites, find the courage to fight.
The principles in themselves aren't necessarily bad, but when we jump to them first it can be a bad hermeneutic. We should read Scripture in this way- who was it written to, what did they understand of Scripture up until that point, what was God saying to them, how does it point to Christ and after all that, what does it say to us today. Any other approach and we can miss the most beautiful part of the Bible- how it speaks of our Lord Jesus and God's glorious plan and who He is.
I appreciate a lot of your teachings and know this was from a year ago. I hope this comment can be helpful to others to discern a bit better even from great teachers like Gary that how we study the Bible matters and what first needs to be addressed should not be missed- that is Christ.

Sometimes this pastor goes just a little too far with the cruel and overboard jokes. He's joking about, "murderers and needing blood." Come on pastor....Do Better.
