Radios need to start playing songs like this again!! This generation needs to hear songs like this!!
If you want to hear this kind of song get some Mack Davis songs!
He wrote most of them and they have great messages in the lerics!!
WJIB in Boston still does! I believe they’re streaming now so look up those call letters and check it out.
Give it time the beautiful music is all we have for hope
True, but the government doesn’t want it! They want to control us! Control the people!! ww3 is apparently knocking on the door! So is Armageddon!!!!!!
Another good one..every day people.
wish we had songs full of hope and kindness like this today
We do. This one.
This came out April '70... My cousin was killed in Viet Nam on April 7, '70. We traveled to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio for his funeral and the entire way up and back this song was played. I was just 19 and it killed me then and STILL does when I hear it. I LOVE IT💚💜💙🙏🙏🙏 RIP CLAYTON
So sorry 😢
I feel you lost, I was there and I lost many brothers there too.❤
❤
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you to your cousin for his service and im sorry for your loss
Can you come on TV and sing this song for us today, Ray?? How much the world needs to hear this today!
How effortlessly he sings not like some of the screechers today. Can't believe fifty years have passed. Still magic.
*Right!!???!!* 🤫🤣
Ray Stevens says it all on that song.🌅
He is a fine Artist can crossover many genres over the years ys and still goin at 85 scary hard to believe getting old really suxs all of us
I sure wish more people would take this song to heart. This world COULD be amazing. We could do so much.
This song is a message from God. Wonderful, wonderful.
Yes, wonderful indeed. Heraclitus was running around saying that too. Check out the Logos (c. 535 - c. 475 BC)
and so perfectly non-toxic
No, it's a message from Ray Stevens.
Everything is beautiful, our planet is beautiful, the creatures on it are but alas it is populated by none beautiful PEOPLE
@@dkelly8005you are right, the politicians and religion sowing the seeds of hate and division
In May of 1970, this song was #1 (for 2 weeks) and the song is so relevant today, as it was 50 years ago. I had gotten home from the Vietnam War, my wife and I created our first daughter while we lived in San Francisco and we had the future within eyesight. Ray Stevens, thank you for writing and singing this timeless song and sharing it with the world...
ABSOLUTELY!!!
Even more relevant today ❤
Did he also do the streak? And guitarzan?
This song is still relevant today as it was in '70
One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
1981lashlarue . Yu are so right & if anything it’s more relevant today than ever. I get teary when I hear it.I also loved his funny songs. He could go from serious to laugh out loud funny in minutes! Definetly one of my most favourite singers.
@@darlenejeanson7131 He is very much underrated and underappreciated as a song writer and performer. He is far more than just a comedy song writer (like you, I love his funny songs too!) but songs like this and Mr. Businessman showed he had far more depth than most people realize or give him credit for.
🙌
In its own way
Yes, very true. This pretty song was a change of pace from Ray Stevens' novelty tunes.
So Good cold shivers. Underrated singer. Great writing. Vocal adlibs tasty. Key change. Is awesome.
I was 8 in 1970 , and this Song still Resonates . .. it Stands the Test of Time.
Me too, and agreed ❤️
Me too!!
Me too , I can remember it playing on the radio here in the Uk in the summertime in the car on the way to the beach , happy days ❤
Playing this in honor of my Gramma today......she always sang this song.
Today is her birthday. She was the most beautiful heart I ever knew.
I hope people can one day appreciate the beauty in all. grace 1014
We need this song back on the radio again.
Especially in this day and age. I personally find that this song (and Hairspray's "I know where I've been") offer hope for a better future.
Some of us never stopped playing this one.
I was reminded of this song out of the blue July 5th, 2020. So I came here.
Pull us through again. We need all the help we can get.
Because Homer doesn't like it!
A grossly underrated song writer and performer...
Painfully underrated
Underrated as a serious performer and songwriter for sure. Most people remember him for his funny songs. He is hilarious but his serious material never ceases to amaze me and never has gotten the recognition it deserves maybe with the slight exception of Everything is Beautiful but he has many more amazing songs.
I was 9 years old, when this came out.
Still, I remember.
One 🐥 in Australia 🇦🇺
This song is a classic!
the whole world needs to hear this song. God bless you Ray.
You are on the money !!!
Timeless and very much needed today.
Appropriate for these times - so sad that nothing has changed - but then again, it's a message for each "new" generation.
My parents had his album and would play it on our new Magnavox stereo console.
Not only can he write beautiful music, and lyrics that touch us so deeply, he can play several instruments! God blessed him with amazing talent! I'm a fan! Go Ray!!
This song touches my heart every time I hear it and I play it a lot.
I was 11 years old when this song was released. I saved my money and bought the album! I couldn’t play it enough! Still makes me smile 😊 when I hear it!
Hello
Awwww I was 5 in 1970
Me too, still love this beautiful song ❤
Absolute class Ray, feel good songs don't come much better than this..
Dear Ray Stevens, thanks for bringing back a memory. This song is still relevant in 2015!!
+Steve Stalzle
...into 8388 AD!!!
Steve Stalzle the song and lyrics no matter who sings it will always be relevant.
May 2020 and 50 year old and going strong. Just shared it with a friend in Hyderabad India. Peace and Love and stay safe
We need it in 2020. Too many people have forgotten what it means
Still listening in 2024❤
My goodness...1970 I was just a 5 year old girl, the lyrics are so beautiful. Wish I could rewind the decades , life was sweeter back then
🌜💚🌛🌷🕊️
Just seen my own comment on this from 5 yrs ago and i cant improve on it haha! I could do with listening to this once a week for the rest of my life. I love what the US gave us (the world) at its best. No shes not perfect and was not perfect but every now and then the spirit of God moves thru the world and basically i think he did that in the US domestically first and then internationally from 41 and after WW2 at least up to the mid 70s
Back then, me and my buddies bumped Zeppelin, Sabbath and Floyd. One day this song came on the radio and I yelled 'turn it up, I love this song', they looked at me like WTF?
😂😂😂
what year was it when this happened?
And still people listen to those 3
bands in 2020...

WOW! I probably would have too when I was in High School 10 yrs later! However, that goes to show how far ahead in taste and quality you were to us! It's truly a beautiful song👍
AMAZING!!! as i am approaching a century. 7/3/24 Singapore
One of the most timeless songs. ❤️
Hi
Remember watching this show on a Saturday . I was 8 , going on 9 and after the show I rode my bike a "stingray" up and down the street singing that song . I already had the 45 . I remember being really happy that evening . I'm 57 in 2018 and I still remember that day .
i am 59, had a stingray also. talk about innocent! those were the days.
I love this story!
I would have loved to watch this show when first aired. I mean Ray singing some of his best songs and so much talent like Lulu, Cass Elliott, and an unknown at the time Steve Martin.
The fact that a song that was a HUGE hit and so unabashedly positive like this would be considered so terribly cheesy to most people these days really says that we’re really lost something in our society that I don’t know if it’s ever possible to regain. It’s like innocence and something that celebrates the human spirit with noblest of intentions isn’t allowed anymore.
Amen
Too right. We've grown too cynical. It's the fault of the woke brigade, the politicians and the governments that never cared for anyone anyway.
One of the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard. Thank you very much.
Beautiful? In its own way.
I remember hearing this when I was a kid and my dad was still alive. He passed in 72. I still miss him.
God I wish those days were here again…
Fast forward to 2023 and the sickness in some still lives. Guess they never know meaning of this beautiful Song and the truth behind it. God help us
Sounds like the same backing heard on the hit record, but with an excellent live vocal performance by Ray being sung over it. Very nice!
One of the first songs to really touch my heart. I was 16 and extremely radical. He helped settle me down. For that I say thanks Ray.
Gregory that is a great comment and so touching
God bless you! = )
Gregory, don't know how old you are or where you heard this song. This song touched me out of the blue, because I bought the 5 cent punch out 45 rpm in 1969. 10 year old kid, open to what the world could give. I think I bought the Edwin Hawkins Singers "Oh Happy Day" at the same time. Listen to both of these songs back to back and you may understand how a young mind of mush could grasp that higher thing that most people discard.
I am no longer as ardent, but I remember how I felt when I heard these inspirational tunes.
DARN IT, this swallows my bitterness and makes me smile with hope....
Forgive my memory from 50 years ago (oops, 49). I was in Ormond from '69 to '70. The '69 miracle Mets fix my timeframe during that brief period ( I was rooting for the Orioles). Still, this 45 reached the 5 cent punchout bin soon after its release. I think I also got "Dream a Little Dream of me", Mommas and the Pappas, the 1910 Fruit Gum Company B side with the song in reverse (it sounded demonic), and the Edwin Hawkins Singers "Oh Happy Day" - listen to this one it will lift you "up".
The world needs radicals right now.
I have this song in a burned mix CD and I didn't realize it was Ray Stevens until just now seeing this video!
I Remember Watching Mr Ray Stevens Show back in Summer 🥇 of 1970 as a kid. 52 Years Later. I still love this song. God Bless Mr Stevens.
cant make music like this anymore....RIP 70's music
We need this song back on the radio today!!!! Please!!!! Oh the power of music, what we can achieve if we live this song together! God bless to ALL!
Always loved this beautiful song!
As meaningful today as it was back then...
agreed!
I beg to differ. The politically charged garbage that he's been releasing lately is just adding to the vitriolic division that exists in American society today. It is work that comes not from wisdom, but from a confused old man who can't tell the difference between the mergers of global conglomerates with the human need for proper medical treatment. Frankly, he's become a big jerk, and needs to be called on it.
For a confused old man he does a pretty good job on exposing the (anthropogenic) global warming rubbish so many are trying to get us to believe .. and his "hang up and drive" track is excellent, and supported by the local boys in blue.
i guess you don't like Trump supporters that's all
Yes. The young Ray is the same as the old Ray with beauty in his heart, helping people to be inspired to be good. In his later years he is sick and sad realizing what our modern society has become with morals in decline, and exposing government's phony baloney. Thank God he speaks up.
I get wave after wave of goosebumps every time I hear this for the whole duration of the song. ❤❤❤❤❤
So hes live but the choir was a backing track.Beautiful song.Great memories
I've always liked to consider myself a cynical bastard, but this song brings me to tears every time I hear it. Jeezus...has it been fourty years? And more!
Life is good bro.smile an listen to more good Music.Time will pass, enjoy it Live stay humble
I started crying too.
50th Anniversary soon
No, 50 years
@@gracereeves7803 Yes Grace, released fifty years ago. But I can only remember the song back to the early 70s.
How could 90 people give this beautiful uplifting song a thumbs down? Bless them all, and all of us🥰❤️
What a time to live in. I WAS 6. And then later, when The streak was played OMG
I had no idea that Ray Stevens could truly sing. That was beautiful!
I was only 4 in 1970 and still remember hearing this Wonderful song on the AM station.. Everything is BEAUTIFUL.
I was 12 and still have the 45 rpm record!
snap! me too. The songs you hear when you are young stay right until the end.
How I miss those days. Things seemed so innocent back then. God bless you Ray.
So true
Not innocence. Just more sane!!!!
Yes- Much more sane.
they took all our radio stations away..
Ah yes, 1970, the year of innocence. We were deep in the throes of the Vietnam war, the national guard killed four kids at Kent State, Vietnam protesters bombed a building at UW Madison, and 100,000 people protested the Vietnam War in the nation's capital. If only we could return to that time of relative peace and political stability.
Here in 2024! Anybody else ?
Yes 2024
This needs to be shared everywhere
mee of course
This is music! Very rare good artists anymore. A few exist but few and far between!!
Yep and thinking how sad our country is.
When my wife went into labor and we got into the car, this was the first song that was playing on the radio. Popular the year I was born and for years after, it has always been a memory of mine. How delightful that it should be on the radio 40 plus years later! Yes, yes. I became a daddy in my 40’s. I consider myself lucky. Life is Life!
There is only one race--the human race.
Hate is a choice. Love is a choice. I choose love.
Amen Brother
God created the things we recognize as racial and ethnic differences, not so that we could ignore the wisdom of His having so done, not so that people would maniacally work for "racial reconciliation" or practice suicidal miscegenation, but because -- as we now know by science what faith had preached from the Beginning, that -- diversity is vital to the survival and welfare interests of the species.
Love doesn't mean ignoring our differences: it means helping each other despite our differences; it means cultural evolution, as we learn from each other which ideas are hostile to the societal ideal, we purge them from our respective cultures -- and when we find that another culture has discovered a better path, we adopt that -- such that through natural segregation, we leap forward at an accelerated pace, from misery and poverty to happiness and wealth.
Amen, Thank GOD! #76
Wonderful words John Russell. 🏵️⭐🌈
Exactly 👍
I was not born yet when this song came out. But hearing a classic American Top 10 presentation featuring this tune on I Heart brought me here and Boy, We need this song in 2019!!! Thanks so much Ray Stevens for this positive tune!!!
He did such goofy comedy songs (which I liked). But when this came out, I was stunned. Thanks.
In some way, I suppose he wanted to prove he could do a serious song as well.
My Dad loved this song😊
Hello
Perfect song for today....
Just a timeless song. Something the world needs to hear.
I have always loved this song. Funny guy Ray Stevens being serious is GREAT! He is one of the best!
How are you?
Im surprised this hasnt been covered by other artists or used in a musical
Thats a v good point
This reminds me of being 8 years old, bouncing around the backseat of my grandparents big old white Crown Vic, onto the next road trip, listening to so much Ray Stevens. I'm currently sitting in front of their old home, watching it be moved out of and taken apart, my childhood slipping more and more away. I miss you, Gram and Papa. ❤
don't know why but the tune just popped into my head.
A handsome man with a great voice!
That man knows how to sing.
Ben Bourne I think he doesn't get enough recognition for his singing I guess because he is mostly known for singing comedy but I agree with you he has an awesome voice!
This means so much to me right now...
Lynly Ehrlich me too, esp after all kinds of stuff I never anticipated, cancer, multiple surgeries, complications..my hair didn’t come back, but the beauty is 9 and a half years cancer free from stage 3. thanks to God and brilliant doctors. there’s beauty in that even if I’m kinda ugly now.
Woke up singing this song today in 2022... haven't heard this song in like 20 years but music has a way of transcending time. Love this song!
The perfect song!
I always loved this song. Ray Stvens has such personality. I didn't realise he wrote it himself. Makes me like it all the more.
I was 10 when this came out in 1970 and it was the most profound, meaningful song around at the time. I was in a catholic primary school and the kids there and the teachers were the loveliest people to be around. The song meant something then and has even more relevance today.
Unbidden and unexpectedly, this song popped into my head yesterday. Wonderful then, wonderful now
This song helped shape me into a good person.
Let’s give this song to Antifa. Maybe they could use it.
@@johntapp1411 No hope for that lot I'm afraid.
Love this song, well I'm dedicating this to my ancestors When I was young, I always believed that I was different, when I was at school, I just wanted to be a farmer, I love the outdoor, nature, live on a farm, I got laughed at but now we've done a family tree and guess what, my ancestors had a farm, so the Universe gave this dream to me so laugh no more those doubters, you got nothing from the Universe 😁sending my love to my ancestors ❤️👌
I so much love this song. This song went #1 on May 29th 1970, which is my birthday.😊😊
Stop loving only the beautiful people who are pleasing to the eye. Learn to see not with your eyes, but with your heart. You have the power to make someone feel good and the power to make them upset by the way your few seconds of contact creates. Show them a positive stimuli, no matter what they look like. You will feel like a better person for showing kindness to people that are not used to it.
This is my theme song! Thanks, man.
Best comment ever! :-D
Such a nice, beautiful song.
4-2-2020 coronavirus pandemic lockdown playlist THANK FOR THE MUSIC!!
Didnt realise how good this mans voice is until i became an adult. As a child his voice meant nothing to me but now i can hear the talent the man has.
LOVE this recording! Incredible artist!
We need to play this song right now ! Because of all these riots going on. We need to hear it on the RADIO. ! Lord may God bless us all!😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😰😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Let's all live these lyrics in 2020!
This song gave me Spiritbumps in 90degree weather❣this song needs recirculated 🌅
How are you doing?
I was probably 4 years old when this came out, so I don't remember the show. This song has been in the recesses of my mind all these years where I must have heard it on TV and radio. When I looked it up on the tube, I could understand why a child would be very comfortable listening to this sound of the music as well as the universal message of the song. "to be happy and be good to each other", because He made everything beautiful. Ray is excellent as well.
We sang this in school chorus. I was in the fifth grade - it is a wonderful message. I am blessed to have been born when I was.
Great vocals...spiritual song. .😊
Lovely smooth voice and beautiful lyrics. Remember this as a kid. Loved it then love it now
It is such a calming and timeless song. If only humankind applied this in everyday life
A beautiful and inspirational song! His best one.
This song is need more now than ever.12/27/21
I miss music like this.
thanks you for sharing this classic wish it was played in the schools churches etc
What a great sounding Song , and Ray Stevens sings so smoothly and so easily big time.
Will the world listen to and adhere to this song
For a music artist known for novelty songs, Ray Stevens did a fine job here for an exception.
Thanks for all the amazing music over the years ... we most certainly could use more of this viewpoint today
I was 6 years old. I loved & still love this song!
This song was a hit the year I was born. It was a background staple throughout my childhood :-)
It's time to bring back a number of the songs from the 60s and 70s. Many tell a story of love, peace, harmony and brotherhood. Not about big bootys, killing cops and how much destruction we can rain down on the world.
So many of today's songs are about death, destruction and hatred. We children of the 60s and 70s need to bring back the ideals of peace and harmony so, put a little love in your heart.
2 words.............THE BEST!
A simple song with a powerful message.
