Hi!!! Looks like the X-men’s wolverine buggy with that paint scheme. I still think it looks great but looks like a bit of a hassle to run . Don’t think I’m gonna be getting this one but Tamiya is on the right track by building more character buggies. Thanks

I have to say everyone complaining about the battery removal clearly has raced a 1/10 buggy. Most of them you leave the battery in and just hook charger to it. Yes they come out but everyone I know charges the battery in the buggy. So the whole difficult battery doesn't bother me it's not hard to charge in car. Second if it comes painted then it's not for me, if it's not painted I think I'd give a shot, it looks like it might be a fun buggy to drive on my local track. That's just my two cents thanks for the updates, love your videos!

Great idea Greg. But if I look on my situation: driving 20 minutes to my RC place, walking 10 minutes to the track and then driving for 10 minutes the car until the battery is discharched. Maybe I'll recharge it in my car. That means 20 minutes walking, plus the charging time... Unfortunately this solution is mot an option for me. I must change the batteries in the wilderness.

I love it. Tamiya as always been plastic models for me so I really don't care about it. Great car but needs too many mods to live up to the Avante name.

Hey at least it's different. There's way too many commodity derivatives in the RC market to simply make an evolution of an existing conventional chassis. Quirky is what makes it Tamiya. Name aside, I think it's pretty neat. It's certainly more inspiring than that awful Comical Hotshot body.

  • @mattigower1479

Looks like Tamiya has done a redesign of their core chassis for the off road racer, which is great. It seems a pity they didn't break a bit further with their legacy designs, especially with the rc world competitors in general moving on now. I do like the plastic-tub chassis, as much as I can see of it, it will add great strength while keeping the weight and the cost way down. Would like to have seen stick batteries left behind in the new design, in favour of a more compact LiPo format such as shorty-pack. Shorty-pack format would leave more usable space available for receiver, ESC and servo. and keep the weight down. Not sure the lay down shocks are a good idea for off road, they have been tried elsewhere before and suffer from the problem of limited suspension travel when long travel is really much needed for off road. But, lets see how it turns out in the flesh. Wonder how the transaxle looks for race or bashing applications, is there some kind of slipper clutch to lighten the load on the transmission?

I have built Tamiya kits for a long time. When you have a design where everything is tightly fit like this car, the TC01 and the old 4WD F1 car it's discouraging for me. Because, my first though is if I have to repair something it's more of a headache. I think the designers have to take in consideration the ease of repair and replacement. Why would they make so hard to install a battery?

I saw a running video and it looked pretty quick. A lot faster then the average silver can. Hopefully this buggy will do ok with a mild brushless setup. As far as the paint job goes, it reminds me of a racing buggy where looks aren’t as important as visibility. A bright and unique paint job makes your car easier to see amongst others in a race. Also, neon yellow rims (like these) are often used in RC racing for better visibility.

  • @londonpirates

I think Tamiya have done a great job with this. Yes there are issues like the battery access and the wheel colour but overall I think this is exactly the kind of buggy we want from Tamiya. Of course it’s not a competitive race car so it doesn’t need to have the bland aero noseless, cab forward design. Fully ball raced, hex screws and quality plastics are great improvements. The lay down front shocks and the windows look cool. Wheels are a slight disappointment, as you say it’s the clash of the yellow doesn’t work and it’s about time we had a new wheel design so I think a camlock v2 might have been a nice touch and good way to connect this back to the original. Will be interesting to see what the price is going to be, I think maybe more than a VQS but less than a 2011 Avante would be about right so possibly £350 ish? Whatever it is I’m sure people will complain 😀

That being even if that bring in a person to design something they will also they the final word ie rim color choice. So i does a company keep it roots and not get left behind in sales. I'm happy for a new design and kit ,,its different and unique ,
,I even think painting the wheels the correct yellow wont look as bad as everyone seems to be saying ,,,I do think there are better color options than the box art.
I'm understanding that Tamiya is simply trying to provide new kits that are true to the vintage heritage in some degree yet needing to modernize at the same time
that's a tough job to do ,,so i have to give credit for getting it mostly right in that regard
I could nit pick it to death if i were a staunch vintage cork sniffer , but isn't that true for even any vintage kit ?
I'm getting one for sure ,
I don't understand all the heavy negative comments ,, since there are plenty of cool Tamiya kits to suit everyone's different likes .
i just hope the price is not out of my budget range.

It is a shame theirs not more metal and carbon as it looks more entry than top end hope there will be plenty of hip ups for it to make it how it should be

That practically FORCES you to stay away from Lipos. Very few People will want to partially disassemble the Car, to remove the Lipo - which MUST be done.
LOVE the Inboard Shocks! Love the mini Fenders, reminiscent of the Classic Era Sports Cars.

Don't think, they will sit as tight as they were when the car was new after several changes of the battery. I know the changing of the battery on the original Avante is a little bit fiddly, too. But after a few changes you got used to. Why not taking the ESC mount and the driver apart? Or a battery door on the underside of the chassis? I mean I'm driving outside, in the forests, parks, opened construction sides. My car is parked a few minutes away, do I have to take a camping table with me for doing just usual stuff to get the car run?
Man, I even hate to take bodies off for a battery change.
But I still like this car somehow and sure I'll get one. Even if it'll never leave the shelf😉
For the body: I don't like the original blue-yellow style. I want a clear body. And I see no need in the "windows". If the car is driving, I don't think I will watch the shocks operating. So why? And the paint-job is much easier.

The front shock tower thing is screwed on using captive nuts, so it will stay tight.

In my opinion a super avante should be the original with modern technology implemented to make it stronger and preform better while holding true to the original
While this car is nice and looks interesting it's no avante and should have its own name to create a new legacy
Probably using the name because this kit will demand a higher price and the avante name will justify it
With the economy wacked right now getting people to part with their money requires a special following

I kinda like the thing even in box stock colours. Best part for me is that its all new and not a re re. The name Im not too fussy on as I am probably one of the few that does not care for the whole line of the Avante series.
Probably wont see it in Canada for a while anyways as nothing else is in stock accept maybe Hornet and hoppers and when it does come here the price will be stupid probably/unfortunately.

The chassis is an evolution of their 4WD chassis fleet. It mixes past designs with new design elements. The battery change is a horrible solution, but again very typical Tamiya off standard solution. They could have made a battery cover from the bottom or from the side instead. The body was designed by a designer and designs are sth you either like it or not, I don't, sorry. They could have made it look better with other colours and another name. But again, it makes it look very different and unique. I'm still torn, but the chassis is definitely the most interesting part of the car. And I wouldn't go boxart with this. 😊

I like it. Will be interesting to see how durable it is. I think it should have had its own name not Avante. I would like to see something new with good ground clearance and durable.

To me it is not one I would buy. But it should have a stand alone name, I see no development of a avante.

Seen some specs and ie length is 338mm? is a bit short eh? A new car and it has the old star dish wheels, come on Tamiya ! do a new design on the wheels. Well i'd buy one if it's not too expensive. Would strip the paint off if it's pre-painted or get another shell.

Doesn’t have that WoW factor as the original Avante has…The original Avante was the ultimate engineering and design showcase for Tamiya. This so called “Super Avante” has none of both yet they call it “Super”….

On the original Avante, you do not want to change anything because it’s perfection. But for this new wannabe Avante…you can make a list until kingdom comes…

Another super awesome video, wicked to hear your thoughts also i love no bumper, reminds me of 1/8th scale, the “fatness” is appealing like an 1/8th scale, skinny jeans vs sweats

I really like the layout and design of the chassis. Even the overly complex way you have to get into the battery doesn't bother me. If the body comes pre painted that's would be a deal killer for me. I wouldn't buy it. Has anything been said about a possible release date or MSRP yet?

Does it have a brushless motor system??

  • @shaunpugh3287

This car doesn't deserve the Avante name, and while I applaud Tamiya from moving away from the single chassis concept (TT-02) and creating something a bit more unique and adept at bashing I think they have missed the mark. I went out yesterday with a buddy to a BMX track and skate park. We are both getting on a bit now and have gotten back into RC after 30+ years away from the hobby, but what was very obvious was the reaction to our cars from the kids at the park. My friend had a Neo Scorcher and I had an Arrma Vorteks. Without even driving them everyone was interested in mine. Once we drove around a bit, the Tamiya didn't even get a look in. All the kids wanted to know about the Arrma and they asked questions about 3s, was it brushless, etc - they knew about all this stuff. I asked them which brands they've heard of. They knew about Traxxas and Arrma, they've never heard of Tamiya. We Tamiya fans are getting older, there's no two ways about it. If Tamiya want to continue grow their customer base outside of their domestic market, they need to look at bashers, and work to their strengths. Nobody is making 1/8th or 1/5th scale kits as far as I am aware, and Tamiya already sell RTR models anyway, so why not scale up a bit so they can run big lipo and brushless setups?. That's what customers want these days.I know the Vorteks is 1/10 scale, but it is significantly bigger than a Tamiya buggy and the build quality is miles better. The point is Tamiya need to change, and I'm sure you already know this. I recently sold my TT-02B having only had it less than 6 months. They need a load of upgrades to make them stronger, and if you make them fast enough to cope with BMX tracks, and the bigger wheels for such environments you are not far of the price of Arrma/Traxxas anyway but these cars are so much more capable. And even if you do go to that level the Tamiya cars do tend to break very easily no matter what upgrades you add to them. Personally I'll be buying some of the retro Tamiya kits as shelf queens because I like building them and there are a few kits I always wanted, but for driving won't be buying Tamiya as there is no point. Which is a shame.

Big scale and brushless/lipo set-ups are a dime a dozen. Tamiya is a unique, fringy company that has a Japanese sensibility to it. Why be derivative? Do we need another eighth scale brusless/lipo truck? Is that what the hobby really needs?

    • @shaunpugh3287
      @shaunpugh3287 3 роки тому

@@Mr_Cottam I think it needs something better than the bland TT-02 and DF03 cars that have both limited build and driving appeal. Tamiya need to build on their strengths of having unique models, but modernise a little. And yes I would like to see a 1/8 or 1/5 scale model.
