    O'Donnell hitting big 6 , making 50, smashing all round. SriLankan fielding was good even then. Descent bowling, took sharp catches...nice upload

    Such a different approach to ODIs back then.. teams would sleepwalk through the first 20 or so overs and really look to pile on runs in the final 10-15 overs..

      Beautiful approach, made cricket exciting. I loved this cricket. Cricket hasn't been the same since 1996 world cup.

      @@gurujojo8992 first 15 over power plays were enforced in Australia, still didn't change the approach much till Jayasuriya changed it around 1996 world cup. Because opening batsmen of that generation, had been trained to play risk free cricket in the early overs, since childhood.

    • @MatthewCaligari
      @MatthewCaligari 7 років тому +6

      Costa Sports Yup! This was truly the golden age of one day cricket.
      Back then you'd get 50,000-75,000 for one dayers at the MCG. These days you'd be lucky to crack 20,000 if India aren't involved.
      Also modern "kits" are so lame and boring.
      The B&H WSC was by far the best ODI competition the world of cricket has ever seen.

    Like a lot of cricket lovers I didn't know much about Sri Lankan cricket during the 80's. I have read their seam bowlers had decent pace. While they weren't world beaters the opening bowlers look like good fast medium bowlers.
    During the 80's the likes of Boon would have been considered a good one day player yet by modern standards the only batsman in the Australian batting line up would make it the current one day game is Dean Jones who was a brilliant one day player.

    • @rubiksharma5387
      @rubiksharma5387 3 роки тому +1

      Never ever compare people and players of different eras. There was no power play, no fre hit, no rule about bouncer, no third umpire and difficult pitches. Moreover, MCG had the longest boundary.
      Every generation faces different chalenges, depending on age and avalable resources. Apart from these facts, one day game had been evolving as an exciting form. You would not witness ennings with strike rate above hundred on regular bases.

    • @matthewcharles5867
      @matthewcharles5867 Рік тому

      Waugh , boon, Jones, border, O'Donnell, wouldn't have to many problems in the modern era. Better bowlers and pitches then now in my opinion.

    Those were the days when teams used to defend scores around 220 with just above average bowling and good fielding in Australia. The pitches used to be good for bowlers too till the very end. Batters had to earn their runs. Even a total of 220 made things interesting.
