Handy Video! I have the same vehicle, lapiz. One thing I want is a more obvious driving mode option on the dash. If it's in eco, normal, or race I want to see it more obviously displayed on the dash, otherwise when I use manual mode with the paddles it removes the tiny D/E/S from the dash. Maybe I'm picky? Haha.
It's amazing, there's a piece of standard equipment located in the glove box that owner's never seem to use. It goes by the name of the driver's handbook/manual. Otherwise great videos.
Nice one Jay. Added the GPS clock and on the move door locking to my R this morning! Was going to return the favour with rear wiper but notice I've been beaten to it!
Mirror down feature: The mirror DOES return to normal position when you get to the same speed as the auto door locking operates. Similarly after the wipers have been put in the ‘service’ position.
With the auto dipping left wing mirror when in reverse. It will go back to normal when you drive off. It happens at the same speed as when the doors auto lock.
Jay jay, really grateful you've covered the oil and servicing for me! Another great in depth review, I'd totally agree about the oil and gear box change after the track day, I've noted the performance oil, thanks again, I'm totally glued to your vids haha, my R comes March the first, I went dsg in limestone grey
Jay Kay jay could you just explain the fuel to me, I don't quite understand the 'ron' difference, performance fuel is a no go right? You didn't seem to notice any obvious signs of improved performance did you and considering the money for the fuel your best of sticking to plain unleaded, do you prefer shell petrol & BP or fuel from supermarkets like Asda & Tesco?
im currently on my 4th fill of Shell Vpower nitro plus which is 99 RON and the fuel reccomended by anyone who owns performance cars (porsche, ferrari etc...) Ive noticed no performance increase, or improved throttle response either. I drove to north yorkshire and back via the A1(m) and achieved 36MPG on this fuel, but im not sure if id have gotten that with regular fuel too. The last time i did a big cruise was my 105 round trip to snake pass. That averaged at 28MPG but that is when the car engine had only done a couple of miles so was still very tight and being bedded in. Ultimately people say Vpower is the best in that it gives you a bit of better MPG, but doesnt offer anything in performance. Which ever fuel you use, your warranty will be fine. So i personally might stick Asda regular seeing as i dont drive my car like ive stolen it
Jay Kay okay mate, I'll try the two and see how I get on with both, I like the idea of the performance fuel but wasn't sure if it was worth the extra money, what mpg do you average on a town run? With both fuels?
Came across this channel and I have to admit mate you seem genuine and passionate which is a pleasure to see. You say things how they are, good and bad rather than just blagging it like some people do. I have a question and wondered if you could help. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this car, more or less done tbh. Just wondered if you could give us an example of how the audio system Is etc? I've heard decent things about it but can't see anyone actually going into actual details about it. Thanks and keep up the good work mate.
Hello mate and thankyou. I opted for the standard audio system and I'm more than happy with it. It depends what you're used to though as it might not compare with the likes of harman kardon. I'm not sure what the audio pack is like either so it would be good to get someone's opinion on that
On my golf i have a 2017 1.4lt base model..to get the clock on the screen is to press in the volume button for atleast 3 seconds and can choose 4 different clocks..
Hello, Jay. do you know how to get into the engineering mode and go to the Android settings of the infotainment system? Did you see if there is some sort of USB port behind the display (tablet)? Tank you.
Nice video Jay. I agree that the dipping mirrors are a bit odd. Got a bit of a query. I've got a 2016 GTD and my brother has got a 2014 R. So both MK7. They both have stop/start (personally I switch mine off 90% of the time). When I do have mine on and the car comes to rest the engine cuts out. It cuts in again if you touch the throttle or the radar senses the car in font moving away. But my brother can completely stop his R and let it come to rest and keep the engine on. If he comes to rest very very slowly and then hold the brake down the stop/start doesn't happen. If he slows the car normally it does go off. Have you tried that or do you know why that might happen? He is wondering if it's a fault. I can't do it in mine. Even if it comes to rest really slowly.
Thanks mate. Re your question, I'd say it's a small software bug. A friend of mine told me that he was able to brake very gently and prevent both stop/start and the auto hold from kicking in! I've never tried it on my R but I could give it a whirl and see what happens!
ARMATUNE can you explain please? So would I have to put it to L to reverse for mirror to go down then drive off with it still on L and the mirror will move up?
The headlamp washer should work every time you do the windscreen wash and the main lights are on. That's what my Golf GTI does and should be a standard feature with bi-xenon headlights?
i have a 2013 2.0 tdi dsg se, aslong as you have the handbrake in auto, (although not checked the owners manual) at any time you have it in drive, and come to a complete stop with your foot off the big peddal is must be in neutral as the engine rpm is the same as with the gearbox being in park or neutral, (if you use eco mode you can tell it's coasting by the revs dropping to idle) - in my case it's 800 (diesel), so i expect any petrol one to be slightly higher revving in idle,
The passenger side mirror is going to get back up, as soon as the car starts moving forward fast enough for the auto locking to engage, at around 10 mph.
How can you add the digital radio logos to the car seen some videos where you add them from sd card but do you then have to leave sd card in or does it save them and can you only do this for certain infotainment systems as I believe there are a couple of different ones.
Not sure tbh as I never use my radio I'm always connected to all connect. However all my radio channels had the icons already. Visit your dealer and ask them as they must have loaded them for me on my behalf
Ànyone know why PARTICULATED FILTER has put my golf gtd mk7 into limp mode. Had 3 weeks and always keep fuel half tank, got 4 engine management lights on, paid 14K for 15 plate, not happy. Do codes just need reset. Thanks to anyone who can help please. Also what cable do I buy so can plug into media in, I'd like it for dat, and screen cast from phone, definitely android auto. No cables in car at all. 2015 golf gtd. No sat nav either???
you have no idea how helpful that is! I looked in the manual and it says the rear wiper controls are on the left hand side of the steering column!! lol cheers buddy
At 14:42 on your video you can see the rear wiper control images on the right of the stalk: pull-windscreen wash, off, push position 1-rear wiper on, push position 2-rear wash wipe.

agree 100%.
A lot easier to watch a video than read a whole handbook 🤷🏽♂️
Thanks for the video, most of these features are in my 2017 Golf Sportsvan Highline as well.
Nice one Jay. Added the GPS clock and on the move door locking to my R this morning! Was going to return the favour with rear wiper but notice I've been beaten to it!
Thanks mate. And yes I appreciate everyone telling me. I can't believe I couldn't figure it out for myself 🙈
Thanks Jay..very helpful.
Mirror down feature: The mirror DOES return to normal position when you get to the same speed as the auto door locking operates.

Tip: Pull the wiper stalk forward to turn the rear wiper off.
With the auto dipping left wing mirror when in reverse. It will go back to normal when you drive off. It happens at the same speed as when the doors auto lock.
You can also set the angle. I find it very useful when parking next to a curb!
awesome! Thanks for the tips mate

My pleasure mate. I love the limestone grey. Awesome colour

mirror lowering does return to normal when you drive forward note keep nob turned to left position
On my 3 week old GR7 with discovery nav pro, when the clock is displayed on the screen you can swipe to the side for 4 different clocks

For the rear wiper, pull the wiper towards you and it should go back to being off. I'm always accidentally turning my rear one on :)
thank you! Nothing in the manual about this :(
yep for rear...it's one push forward to wipe......2 pushes washes the rear screen.

+Jay Kay cheers Jay. Yep, my brother said the hill hold remained off also when he does it. Thanks for the info, I'll pass it on.
jonnyfez yer if you just come to a stop and gentry press the break peddle the start stop won't kick in and the auto hold won't.
The mirrors raise again once you go over 10mph in Drive
The mirrors raise again once you move forward, same principle as atomatic locking.
ARMATUNE can you explain please? So would I have to put it to L to reverse for mirror to go down then drive off with it still on L and the mirror will move up?
Sarah Edwards yes it will

Nope not on my r. Every x amount of times you do it then the headlamps get washed. Although I never put my mainlights to 'on' theyare always in auto
Quick question, if you put the car in D with electric handbrake on, does it disengage?
i have a 2013 2.0 tdi dsg se, aslong as you have the handbrake in auto, (although not checked the owners manual) at any time you have it in drive, and come to a complete stop with your foot off the big peddal is must be in neutral as the engine rpm is the same as with the gearbox being in park or neutral, (if you use eco mode you can tell it's coasting by the revs dropping to idle) - in my case it's 800 (diesel), so i expect any petrol one to be slightly higher revving in idle,

correct, as soon as you move forward the left mirror goes back to normal, leave mirror position on L

Can u make detailed video showing all the sub menus etc?
yes i could do that i suppose. Mine doesn't have boost gauge i don't think, only that stupid think blue eco thing
Does this work with a manual cant seem to get it to do it on my golf r
I have to manually set up Bluetooth every time i get in car and it resets my saved radio stations..... can anyone help?
Looks like you have the wiper stick pushed forward which is switching on the rear wiper, pull it back and it should stop.
Thanks mate

Rear wiper, stalk away or towards you cant remember, yours is on on position, move it back (or forward) it should click.
Good video
Push/pull the wiper stalk forward/backward to activate/disactivate the rear wiper.
