I dont get it, according to Jim if I put Mylio on an eternal drive ( say 5 tb USB drive) then I start getting it to read all the photos from 10 drives with 2-3 tb each it will copy all the photos to that single 5 TB drive? This makes no sense. The only thing I can think is that it is really just creating a small preview of the files and creates a catalog of all the files. If that is what Mylio is doing then how is it any better than a Lightroom Catalog. What am I missing here?
Thank you Jim. Used your coaching with Luminar NEO and what a pleasant surprize here for Mylio. Your opinions and thoughts are important to me. Thank youi.
Hi there and thanks, and I am not sure. I do not have a 360 device so I have never tried it. You may want to check this page in their manual: manual.mylio.com/3/en/topic/supported-file-types-and-cameras
Thank you for the demo. Mylio looks interesting and I am wondering how long it took you to configure and set up the structure and format that you now use?
Hello Jack and thanks for watching. I don't recall specifically, but I would say I spent a few hours over a few days getting things set up. It will depend on how many images, devices and drives you need to connect and build smart previews for, etc. I think the first pass was most of a work day for me, then some other things here and there over a few days. I did not do it all at once though and honestly didn't log the time, so I am not totally sure. Thanks.
Jim, Great video. Thanks so much. How would you compare this program to Excire Foto. I bought and use it on your recommendation. It does a great job for me but was wondering how the 2 compare. Thanks again.
Hi Mike and thanks. Yes there are some similarities between the two, but there are more differences. Excire is great at keywords, and thanks to their AI does a great job of helping to add them automatically. So if keywording is a big thing for you then Excire is great. Mylio also has keywording, but it is not AI-driven nor as comprehensive as Excire. But Mylio does a lot of other things that Excire does not do, as I illustrate here. You can get visibility to every image regardless of where it resides and get smart previews on your phone etc. I consider Excire primarily a keywording tool, whereas I think of Mylio as more of a DAM tool (all photos, all devices, all the time). The perfect product is a merger of these two LOL. Hope that helps and thanks!
Great tutorial! Thank you so much. Please feel free to do more tutorials and use cases because your tutorial is the most advanced one I have watched so far.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Hello Jim What is your complete workflow with mylio? Meaning, how do you keep track of the on1 side car files when you edit photos? I don't like the idea of creating a TIFF for every edit. Sometimes, one needs to go back and edit over several days to get that one specific look. So how do you keep track of the edits you make in varios RAW editors - be it Luminar and/or On1? At 5:30 you mention that you have a full round trip visibility with Mylio - can you explain? Lastly, myliio will not show you the edited preview when it is edited by an external editor. am I missing something? With Mylio sync, the side car files for ON1 and Luminary might not be synced with the photo. So when one needs space on the computer, and you unload originals to your vault (in mylio), the side car files might not get uploaded to the vault and you might loose all your edits. Am I correct?
Hi Jim, I hadn't heard of Mylio until I saw your video, it appears to be really useful. After spending a bit of time getting further information I went back to this video and pressed the link so you get any benefits - but there is/was a problem as it says they are carrying out maintenance so I can't get/download the online app/software - any ideas please? Thanks again for all your video, information and advice it is very much appreciated.👍👍👍👍
Hi there and thanks so much for clicking my link, even tho it didn't work LOL. I just tried it and got the same error. So I guess try again later today. I am not sure but it appears there is some site maintenance happening today. I am sure it will be resolved soon enough. Thanks for watching, too!
Hi Jim, very interesting. One question, about the "library stats", can you click on any item of the content to visualize the photos related? Cheers edit. On minute 15:51 you answer my question !! 😊
You can link multiple devices together, like your mobile phones, laptops, tablets + setup backup to google drive or AWS, but you going to have a lot more pain to setup this.
Really interesting, Jim. I hadn't heard of Mylio until I saw your video. It does look very powerful, but its functionality seems to overlap significantly with Excire Foto, which I am trying to work into my workflow. Excire has the added advantage of the AI keywording, and it's a one time fee to purchase (until the next major version that is). By comparison, Mylio is another $9.99 a month or $100 a year to use.
Thanks for watching Carl. It is quite powerful and rather different from Excire. The AI keywording in Excire is great, but Mylio is really a different thing. It's about organizing, collating, collecting etc for all of your photos across any device or drive, anywhere. And you can access them all from your phone too. Plus, it's a great central hub for various editing apps as I showed here. And yes Mylio is a subscription but you get frequent updates and they have underlying monthly costs to cover for the service itself. Thanks!
Quick question: Mylio recommends setting up two Vaults. You said you’re employing an 18TB drive for the vault. Do you have another drive set up as a Vault?
No you were right first time. The 18TB is my vault and my only vault. I keep meaning to set up a cloud sync but the time commitment is so long to get 300k+ photos uploaded and synced. So I have been planning to get another 18TB as a second vault, but haven't done that either. 😀 I do have multiple copies of my library on multiple drives, so plenty of redundancy, but I could do more/better.
I would be interested, but I need to be able to search for images by keywords. I also strongly dislike subscription services, it is one of the reasons I got rid of Photoshop.
You can do that. When you are in the analytics section, it can show you all the keywords and they are clickable too. There will be new functionality in this area soon as well.
Technically you would move all the photos to a folder on a drive that Mylio is watching, so yes in that regard. Then you would have them "seen" by Mylio so you can access them etc.
Good question and it depends on what you mean specifically. Your best bet is to read this page in their manual which talks about that: manual.mylio.com/22.1/en/topic/backing-up-your-photos and thanks!
@@JimNix That's because Mylio incurs costs every month you use it. There are data fees to help devices find and connect, as well as tons of updates for new cameras and OS changes. On top of that, there are tons of new features released each quarter.
Yes the base app is free but of course has some limitations. For the full functionality with every feature it is a subscription product. It's well worth it in my opinion.
I can tell you the Mylio does WAY more than Bridge... and Bridge does nothing to back things up, or give you access on mobile devices. It is a single device solution.

Does it work with 360 shots taken with Insta360? Thanks, btw, for sharing, Jim. This is amazing stuff and content. Liked and subscribed

Thanks Jose and yes that is how it works. It's brilliant.
I’m considering purchasing Mylio Jim, but can you tell me its benefits over using Adobe Bridge? Thanks!

Quick question: Mylio recommends setting up two Vaults. You said you’re employing an 18TB drive for the vault. Do you have another drive set up as a Vault?
I just rewatched your video. I misunderstood the role of the 18TB drive. I thought it was your Mylio Vault.
No you were right first time. The 18TB is my vault and my only vault. I keep meaning to set up a cloud sync but the time commitment is so long to get 300k+ photos uploaded and synced. Would I be able to off-load my iPhone Camera Roll to Mylio so that I can clean up and increase storage on my phone?
Technically you would move all the photos to a folder on a drive that Mylio is watching, so yes in that regard. Then you would have them "seen" by Mylio so you can access them etc.
Do you need to leave your main machine permanently on if Mylio doesn’t use the web/cloud?
If you need to access your original raw files from the vault while somewhere else, then yes.
Does this program also work for backup, storage and archive?
Good question and it depends on what you mean specifically. Your best bet is to read this page in their manual which talks about that: manual.mylio.com/22.1/en/topic/backing-up-your-photos and thanks!
You can add multiple backup drives and be protected against device loss or failure.
Any trouble with duplications?
Hi George and no trouble at all. It has a duplicate finder and can help you remove them if you want to. Thanks!
Love the app
it is a great app for sure
Wish they offered a one time price. ☹ I will have to stick with UnRAID for now.
Totally get that AD, subscription is the only option here.

@@RichardHarrington good point and yep you guys add new stuff a lot!
I WILL NOT PAY IN PERPETUITY FOR AN APPLICATION
But I do love what this software can do 🎉🎉❤❤
Cool
Subscription? Big no for me
OK cool
Another piece of software that's on the subscription model - no thanks
No worries
is Mylio free for real?
Yes the base app is free but of course has some limitations. For the full functionality with every feature it is a subscription product. It's well worth it in my opinion.
Really, Adobe Bridge does the same thing. Unless you are totally ignoring the Adobe ecosystem, then I see Mylio as nothing more than a file manager.
Cool, if Bridge works for you then that's great. I don't use Adobe too much so this is great for someone like me.
