- While installing trees on the peninsula of the layout, we thought we would capture the process with a timelapse. This covers the installation of the finished trees (the easy part), but not the actual process of making them. A huge thanks to Arthur Bradley for helping us with the process! We were actually a bit short on trees and have another hundred or so to make to finish the outside edges of the peninsula and the last part of the hill.

The trees really made all that work come together. The kudzu is something neat that I would have not thought about. I'm going to build a layout with Southern Railroad as the carrier, set in central NC, so kudzu would fit right in. I'm gonna steal that idea from you. Thanks for sharing. Great job guys! You did it right with a full set of actual trees instead of just doing the perimeter and filling in with cheap stuff that does not look the part or fit into the remaining great quality. Keep up the great work and sharing.

Very impressive transformation. Great work by you and your crew. Looks fantastic! I like that Dash 8 leader on your coal train as well, how did you model the enhanced (raised) radiators?
I used the original grill with styrene to raise it up a cm or two. It was a fairly simple mod!

Where did you store all those trees before you planted them?
If only we could forest barren hillsides like that in reality, would sure solve a lot of ecological problems! Especially parts of Colorado that burned decades ago and are still barren now.
Quick question, after drilling the holes, did you mark where the holes are located. I had that problem. Looks great.

2:50 that bridge looks like it causing a bit of a up and down hill problem that could maybe cause couplers to come apart or slide over each other

How did you do the big gravel fill on hill side? How did you get the stone/ballast to stick to the steep embankment?
I need to add this on a steep bank before a bridge and tunnel entrance.

How far apart did you plant the trees, and how tall is the average tree?
Just out of coursety, how do you dust your layout? Especially your trees, i have a friend who used to have a HO layout and said that trees were very hard to dust. Is that true? Also how many trains can you operate on your layout and do you need two people to operate a coal train or can you manage with one?
How did you figure out how to space the holes?
