I put Tommy Shaw and Paul Rogers as two of the best rock singers to ever live. I'm 60 so I've seen a lot of people with voices live and those two sound better live then they do on vinyl. I know someone will argue with me, but I prefer the 70's and 80's rock and roll.
Im almost embarrassed to say I didn't realize how good Tommy's voice is .... I always think of Dennis as the voice and Tommy as the guitarist. I think you're right ... hearing it live allows it to be appreciated. Its like Daryl says , its kind of rare to have that high tenor. Awesome stuff here.

Midwestern boy !!!! Tommy’s Played most of him life didn’t abuse his voice !! Shared lead vocals . In a band !!!! A team player it used to take back in day ! 5 nights a week giging in the Midwest !!!

What an absolutely fantastic plan. We need a building/complex with old musicians on the top floor , new kids coming in with all their energy on the bottom and different levels of musical ability/experience in between. Guys with experience/teachers could rotate and mix and try to get a synchretic thing going and the old gurus could then decide what is good enough to try on the public. Lots of jamming with no judgmental stuff going on in between. All is good but some is better. Then let a concert hall be attached for the public/the judges to decide what they like or love. No pressure. All is good.
