Get some small stones and have your kids paint plant and veg names on them. This way you can keep them busy and have plant markers for your beds.

Emma, we got our very first allotment 2 weeks ago, and are currently clearing it..... we found your vlogs and have been watching them all from the beginning and we just got up to this one so far, and we're loving them 🙂

Yes dry the egg shells.. keep them in the bottom of the oven, they can dry when you do other cooking, don’t waste energy on them. Foxy will like wet eggy shells. Sticks with tennis balls on top would raise the net over the bed. I’m glad you are enjoying your plot, we need to get back to fundamentals.

All looking great Emma, i agree with the mystery of nature quietly going about its business! I too have learnt to be patient and now have a system which works in terms of timings for seed sowing! Lost a lot to frost over the years! Happy gardening! 🌸🥦🌈🌼🌻🌞🐞🦋

You want the dead insects and leaves to silt up the bottom of the pond to give the frogs somewhere to hide in the pond, would be also good to ask others that have ponds for some frog spawn

That's nature, Emma, it is amazing! Your hammer is taking all the sharp bits out of your eggshells. You should crush them in your hands and then sprinkle around the plants roots so that the slugs can't get to them. Don't forget to put your bottle cloches over your dahlias to protect them from the frost.

I still get excited by things popping up in the soil, every year😁. Beer traps are amazing, even though I was using cheapest beer it still was additional cost. Now I use a yeast mixture, just as effective but cheaper, found recipe online xx

My understanding is the eggs are good for the soil even if they don’t help with the slugs so that’s a positive! Patience is a virtue so they say take care and enjoy all that you have accomplished in such a short period and the majority was created by you! Ontario Canada 🐝

Emma, how about adding a stalk and a few leaves to the painted flower on the door?! As for the eggshells, I think the idea is to lay a complete layer of lots of broken shells around all the plants (you have to eat a lot of eggs I would think!) but the thing is the snails/slugs do not like walking over sharp edges. If there's only a few shells scattered around they can crawl round the shell pieces. Anyhoo, keep at it Emma and I look forward to your next video x

Hi. Just having a look at your back catalogue of videos Emma. Quick tip on the eggs. Put them on a tray and cook them in the oven for 20 mins. Let them cool, then you can scrunch them up with your hands. It's very satisfying and gives you smaller pieces. All the best. Mags

Beer traps work very well Emma I've been using them last couple of weeks. I just got a cat eating my sunflower & blueberry bush's trying a homemade repellent not sure how it will work. Also fox's & cats mainly dig in fresh layed soil they like to use it as a litter tray as I found out the hard way

Xerox a sketch of your plot beds (numbered or named) and this way you can note what is where and post it in the shed. With fresh copies note future plantings so your ready to put new plants in after the others are done. This way you know what you need to start sowing ahead of time.

Emma look at OYR frugal: slug control in the garden- how to get rid of slugs. He uses coffee grounds. Watch his test. In your case maybe just put it around your plant bases. Bonus: Another thing I pulled from the video is if you simple do what he did with the bag and check under it each day you’ll be able to find them and remove them. Your garden frames are probably housing them too

Hi Emma you could try making up a garlic spray (boil a whole bulb until soft mash it up then strain keep the juice make it up to a 1 ltr ) spray all edible plants this helps keep the bugs off . Do the same for NON edible plants I.e. your flowers ,with rhubarb leaves take care with this as it’s toxic so don’t spray anything you intend to eat hope this helps Sheila

Put the eggshells in a hot oven for 20 minutes, makes them very brittle and they break up into very small pieces which is what you want. So the next time you make black pudding and mushy peas quiche, put the eggshells in the oven at the same time.

For the creaky door : WD-40G / some graphite or shave some pencil lead and coat the hinge pins with it. It should keep the hinges from squeaking like that. At the least try some cooking spray. However, this one will collect dirt and cake up eventually.

    • @liambullard3000

Art is never wrong, don't be hard on yourself pet. Just gently use brush strokes even like fire gently whisk the paint brush from the petals. Wipe off a good bit of paint.Test on somewhere else. I have my beds all painted different colours, from scrap paint.

Some time us gardeners let the thing we love overwhelm us at times, and focus on the shit that didn’t go to plan. And then from nowhere that bloody little seed, form nowhere pushed its way through, and bugger me it out witted the slugs and snail, and took the fox poo and used it as food to grow, I bet in a short time to come. You and your family will be picking flowers and food. It doesn’t matter if it all don’t go to plan. It’s just matters you had a go, and showed your kids how things really are in life. Oh, don’t you diet cover that flower over on the door. Your now need to wright Emma’s allotment under it.

Go on amazon they have rolls of copper tape line the edge of that plot with it and yes beer works great with old tuna cans but empty often because it smells bad the egg shells need to be pulverized to a powder in a blender
