Congress: "We can't trust Iran to keep to this deal!"
yeah, turns out Iran wasn't the one we had to worry about
They know THEY can't be trusted, so they automatically attribute their own (lack of) character to others.
The US is so full of shit. Who are they kidding? We're saving them from themselves, right? Good Lord. How can they say all this bs without bursting out loud with hysterical OK laughter? Is anyone buying this crap?
@@edinfific2576 Indeed, "psychological projection" is the GOP's guiding principle.
It was almost like Iran wanted peace.
@@edinfific2576 Exactly. It's all projection with them. Just like Nixon. They assume everyone else is cheating as much as they are. When in reality, they are the ones stealing elections. They are the ones destroying freedom and democracy. They are the ones destroying America.
I really miss his Lindsey Graham impersonation.
Likewise
+Patrick Chole at least we have the ben carson impersonations now.
I am getting the vapors! :D
Patrick Chole i literally came here just for that
Thanks folks. This is probably the first UA-cam comment ever that didn't devolve into rampant troll insanity. Cheers🙏
This clip will be relevant for decades to come.
Jon was ON POINT here
In the context of the last week, this clip is downright haunting.
TheFrezident I never knew Obama went on record essentially saying he had too much power. Now I have even more respect.
Obama was unreal! What a fucking joke our country has become
Stand Alone I don’t even kno what to say to family members who actually believe Trump is worlds better than Obama. I’m lost for words every time
@@GeneralConsensusPod Small minded people love trump! There's nothing you can do to increase someone's IQ to a gorilla's!
Peace doesn't make big corporations money.
+Barry Sabahat Neither does deporting immigrants.
+TedGoranson69 Oh don't worry, THAT will make enough money for the private sector.
Only that the rest of the economy looses a giant amount of work force.
wolfhead21 Fucking lol. Yeah, clearly corporations don't profit from having a massive class of people they pay less than minimum wage who can't ever complain about working conditions, right? And clearly, we need a larger work force at a time when youth unemployment is at record highs. Yep. No corporate beneficiaries here folks.
TedGoranson69 mhm, and you want to solve the youth unemployment by providing them with jobs that they categorically reject? Good luck trying that one.
And the state will never deport the illegals completely by it's own efforts, a good chunk will go to private contractors.
wolfhead21 They are not rejecting anything. There aren't enough jobs out there for them to take, plain and fucking simple. Or are you one of the people who takes corporations at their words when they bleat about 'shortages' and 'no one wanting to work' as if they don't have massive self-interest behind those claims?
Classic! "We're the Edward Scissorhands of countries; we want to love but we only know how to hurt."
You make a mean ice sculpture, though. ^-^
I blame Woodrow Wilson
so true!
😭
Right because we only provide the most foreign aid then all other countries combined
Too many unintended consequences from signing the disability treaty, but when it comes to starting wars, what could go wrong?
Duncan Wallace What is even more ironic that disability treaty was based upon the American with disabilities act
Duncan Wallace Simple, when it comes to raiding foreign countries with drones or fly in and do covert operations there´s no such thing as unintentional consequences, drawbacks or, for that matter, any risk of full out war. American logic.
Duncan Wallace ".......but when it comes to starting wars, what could go wrong?" God. Reading UA-cam comments by Americans more and more makes me so utterly embarassed to be American.
Dathotness4ya Pretty sure that´s irony.
Johan Öhgren Well I just hovered the cursor over his username and I'm just finding out now that he's from Sydney, Australia. Had I known that I would have taken it as sarcasm. I'm STILL more and more everyday embarrassed to be American by the comments I read online from people in this country. I encourage you all abroad to keep telling us about ourselves. It's like America thinks its the hottest guy in the whole entire school until you all come along and hold a mirror up in front of their face and he snaps out of his arrogance and finds out what people really think. Please keep holding up that mirror.

It's ironic how The U.S. public gets more informative news from a comedy channel than they do from "real" news
I'll concede that if you are talking about all the sensational cable news channels created in the last 30 years or so, but otherwise nah. Look at any compelling bit of information presented in comedy like this show, and in captions you'll see it sourced directly from print media and their primary sources.
With youtube and internet, people feel obligated to free news/info thus forego paying so many once comprehensive established institutions of the fourth estate in the face of increasingly unhappy shareholders have to halt massively diminishing profits and downsizing, have to resort to sensational headlines that encourage clicks (to see new distinguishable ads) because firms like Buzzfeed are discovered to have been ten times more profitable for ten years. Not talking about Cnn and kin which are well.. what they've always been.
That stuff is very important because the most damning information about massive corruption in government/corps is used by Jon and Stephen free from NYT or WSJ whose staff spent unspeakable cash and years investigating each nook and cranny to get that shocking information out to the public sphere in the first place.
Holding leaders of the world accountable through that kind of work is happening less and less because rather than read the report initially published by them in support, people will now choose instead to watch their favorite youtube/tv commentator summarize it.
This is instrumental to a functioning democracy where government is held accountable for their shit, so don't let all of CNN's yellow journalism and the occasional mistake by oftentimes the same reporter in print media (in modern times, amplified extensively because there is always many opponents who want to dispute the integrity of various print investigations) destroy your appreciation for the real journalism out there with primary sources and facts. Buy a sub to your local paper peeps!
@@tylertone2776 whatever. I'll just watch Trevor Noah ... bc too many words.
(kidding ... kinda. but not really. but only sorta, bc your entire post just makes BEESKIES' point: that only a tiny fraction would read your post. "Holding leaders of the world accountable" would mean 2018 would have looked far different. so BEESKIES is correct. that isn't an indictment or endorsement btw.)
@@tylertone2776 feelings don't care about you're feelings..
@@tylertone2776 yes, daily show borrows a lot of their material from print media. that is true. they have always said as much. they never pretended to be investigation reporters. However, you also have to remember that print media is not very popular. had daily show not picked up many of these stories, they would not be consumed by the public. it would be great if cable news like fox or cnn did the same thing. but they rarely do. and when they do they heavily distort it in order to present a product suitable for their audience. the difference is, when the daily show does it, you are actually better informed.
That’s why I watch Stewart’s children (Stephen Colbert and John Oliver) rather than the news. Now if only the Republicans could have a well crafted political comedy show for me to watch so I can enjoy both sides of politics.
Convention on the rights of children, signed 20 November 1989, parties: 195. Countries which did not sign or ratify the convention: United States and Somalia. The only countries on Earth, not willing to be binded by this convention.
Oh, I'm sorry: On 20 January 2015, Somalia ratified the convention and the process will be finalized once the Government of Somalia deposits the instrument of ratification at UN Headquarters in New York. SOMALIA.
Let me repeat:
Convention. On the rights. Of CHILDREN. The only country ON EARTH not a party to this treaty: US of A.
you aren't wrong. but that's bc gop have co-opted our morality ... all while whining they're the "moral authority."
we're so fucked in this country.
genuinely, if you're in the the 195 countries that DID sign: I'm sorry we suck this badly. genuinely, if most americans paid attention (they don't ... again, sorry) to this - and understood it (I know, I know ...) - I'm pretty sure that back in 2015 a majority would be in favor of doing the right thing.
(the "we don't want to lose sovereignty" argument has been a LONG one for the right. the underlying issue seems to have to real point for that coalition.)
similar to climate agreement!
Well signing that would make it a little harder to bomb children. We can't have that.
@@terrycrichton The real reason is that Jesus freaks would lose the right to beat their children with pipes & send them to psychological torture camps
As my son Christian says, "The new American exceptionalism." Unfucking believable. The US is so full of shit. No wonder other countries laugh at us, or worse, hate us. This is the worst place in the world. We should be called the Selfish States of America.

Why do so many commenters call him “John” when his name is clearly “Jon”
I figure the spelling "John" is more common than "Jon"
Joseph Krol but that’s not his name? It’s literally says right there “the daily show with JON Stewart”
@@Kuzo53 Is it possible you're one of those people who read any kind of word - or at least any kind of simple enough word - and then spells it correctly forever? I'm like that myself but many people aren't. And some people aren't even like that when it comes to names. They just don't remember how a name is spelt and just write out the name they have in their memory. Possibly spelling the name in several different ways depending on the day. It's weird but it happens a lot. There must be people who keep misspelling "Gandalf" after having read Lord of the Rings several times and having read all kinds of things about the trilogy.

That's probably the most genius sentence I have seen here on UA-cam. Thank you! 😂

Progress is from the latin pro gradi meaning "walking forward". Congress is from the latin con gradi meaning "walking together".
The US does things like these and yet looks down upon other governments.

Actually, yes, America kind of owns the ocean.
A friend of mine had visited the US to buy a boat, with which he had then planned to sail through the Carribean and back to Europe. His first stop WOULD have been Cuba.
He was literally stopped by American Patrol boats when he had Havanna in sight. I was supposed to meet him in Havanna to join his sailing tour and I had already gotten the message that he could see Havanna..... followed by 3 days of silence and eventually the message that the US coast guard had stopped them right in front of Cuban waters to escort them back to Florida.
Here is the thing. By international law, that does count as piratery. Countries only have control over the 12 mile zone, which for the US, definitely does not extent until Cuba's 12 mile zone. Then again, the US is unfortunately not exactly known to follow international laws and regulations.
***** Which would possibly allow you to have a 12 mile zone from Guantanamo Bay....... which does NOT extend until, as it is in the south of the island, while Havanna is in the north.
yakumo961 If they own the oceans, why did the Indian Navy have to defend merchant ships in the Gulf of Aden from Somali pirates? They exercise control and flex their muscles in their backyard. Not anywhere in the world that happens to have salt-water.
Get a fucking life, will you?!!! Carribean=salt water..... Besides, it might be their backyard, but it is still illegal by law. What would people do if Germany just decided to send their Bundeswehr all over Poland and act according to their own rules there?
yakumo961 Well, given the world's prejudice towards Germany, there'd be that thing we had a couple of times now.
Those with power make the rules. It's just our misfortune that that power resides in the hands of the morally bankrupt.
But my point was (and is) that the US doesn't 'own 70% of the Earth's surface'. That's just daft.
Get a fucking life, will you?!!! Correct answer. Everything, at least it seems that way, is a function of power.
I do not know what prejudice against Germany you are talking about.
USA has overthrown more democracies post WWII than any other nation, and has armed and bankrolled more gangsters, drug lords, madmen and mass murderers than any other country in history.

Nah, don't call it that. Here in 'Murica, we prefer the term "defenders of freedom." When we use drones to strike and kill innocent civilians, we're just protecting freedom. When we invade other countries with no clear reason and destabilize them to the point where an extremist group can sweep in and occupy half of that country once we leave, we're protecting freedom. When we insist on having our military in every goddamn corner of the globe (with many of our servicemen misbehaving in unethical and often criminal ways), we're simply there to protect your freedom. You should be grateful that we in 'Murica do so much to keep you free =)

I don't think any of the politicians really know what they're saying from one moment to the next or from one interview to the next....
+Dave Dreyer (unclejedimaster) They don't need to. They're in districts and/or states where their seats are completely safe. The only way they stand a chance at losing their seat is if they face a significant challenge in the primaries, and that almost never happens.
