I remember back in early 2000s When Chessington had Samurai installed. It was the most amazing ride I'd ever been on. The setting was perfect with the mystic theme and tall trees behind it. I remember one day when it got dark, it got a bit foggy and with all the red lights on it looks incredible. Never been the same when it was moved to Thorpe!
it's actually a bit of a combination of a frisbee and a top scan. it moves back and forth and goes upside down like a frisbee, but the gondolas look and spin like those on a top scan.
At 0:52 you can see the top scan in the background! This is why Canada’s Wonderland is my fave theme park because it has such a wide variety. From terrible Zanpearla Volares to gigga coasters like leviathan. And amazing flat rides too!
For me, the Top Scan is the most spectacular-looking flat ride ever made. I get mesmerized just watching it in action. My first experience with the Top Scan (I've only ever been on versions dubbed "Space Roller") was at the Minnesota State Fair. I was blown away. (That same trip also introduced me to the Shake, known there as 'Magnum', but that's for an earlier video.) I haven't been to the MN State Fair in some time, but I *have* come across the "Space Roller" at the Meadowlands State Fair. I rode it there two years ago, but couldn't get on it last year (we came early during the fair's run and the ride didn't have its permits in order by then). Obviously, going on it this year is out, but maybe in 2021. I've only known the "Airwolf" and "Intoxx" through YT videos. I would love to get on one of those at some point, if I ever come across one in my travels.
I recently found your videos and I've been enjoying the flat ride series quite a bit! Speaking of kiddie rides, you should talk about The Allan Herschell company sometime! They made plenty of flat rides that pop up everywhere (their helicopter ride for example) and some interesting old ones (like the looper at knoebels) they also made a lot of really beautiful carousels in the early days. Keep up the great work!
The Top Scan!!! man oh man. The Topscan is the ride that alomst knock me out after a day of nonstop rides at the Oktoberfest is München. With the Mondial Capriolo, the Topscan is for me the to go ride, if the opperater knows what to do, and is allowed to knock the speed to the max. I have bin on The New Comer, the mondial inferno. In my memory it was more gantel but handelt you like a beast throuwing you around. It was awesome. The was when the New Comer was lokaded the fair in Cap d'agde in France. In 2019 I specialy whent to fair in Antwerp (Belgium), ther a dutch show man rented a Topscan from a English show man. I got 4 times a 7 min. rides with an awesome show. Best time ever!!!! If you get the chance to ride a Topscan in The Netherlands, Bulgium, France, Germany or England at a fair, YOU MUST GO AND RIDE IT!!
Great Video as always! I've only done Samurai at Thrope Park, I can't remember it much, but I remember liking it, shame I didn't get on the prototype at Winter Wonderland.
Could you do a flat ride video over the Topple Tower? I love how you guys are really thorough with your research, and I’d love to learn more about those rides.
I used to operate a mondial top scan, called "beware, the beast" at fantasy island, uk 👍😁 best year of my life operating that ride That wasnt like any other top scan, the floor had been built narrower than all the others, to fit into a gap at a park between two other rides, so there were no walkways either side, there were entrance steps and an exit ramp at the front, and the entrance steps connected to a walkway across the front of the ride instead of going past the paybox Also, that ride was built for one operator, it didnt require attendants, as it was fitted with electrically locking gates at the entrance and exit, pretty cool stuff 👍
The Top Scan and The Zipper are tied at the top of my favourite travelling rides🤩 *PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON THE ZIPPER NEXT!!!* 💖 You have no idea how happy that would make me!!!😱😍✨
the beast at fantasy island uk was one of the best top scans to ever made until james mellors took it to saudi arabia. you would get a 10+ min manual cycle at full power at it was one of the really fast ones that had gondolas that span really well
The Top Scan "Skater" travelling with German showman Kaiser is one of the most brutal rides I've been on so far - when I rode it in Düsseldorf, it ran at full speed during the whole cycle and I was sitting on the outer seat of the gondola. The results were insane lateral forces, even with only about four minutes ride time it was almost too much for me... One year later, I was sitting in the inner seat and the ride program was less intense, so it was more pleasant to ride. But nevertheless, these rides look really impressive!
Just checking in to let you know that you got my sub, this is a really nice channel and I really sympathise with GP To Enthusiast! (Don't know his name) He seems to be a cool guy to have a beer with and chat about Amusement Parks and stuff! Thanks for content!
Lagoon in Utah picked up a Top Scan (coincidentally named Samurai as well). Really fun ride, but it's generally down more often than it's running. Basically been plagued with inconsistent performance the whole time. Is that common with this ride?
A Top Scan was my first truly intense ride, and the one I happened to ride: is the very one shown in the thumbnail of this video. This one was located in LI Adventureland, my home park. A girl convinced me to ride it since it was her birthday and she didn't want to ride alone. Lord was I not willing, as someone who was terrified of roller coasters and even those big pirate ships...I went on it tho, and I got off ready to pass out. Wasn't nauseous, just terrified lol. It was an experience I'll never forget. Would recommend for the thrill seeker! I go back and forth about whether I'd get on one today lol.
I have a very vivid memory of my dad and a friend of his riding Airwolf when i was about 5 or 6. I was so intimidated just by watching it because it was so tall. Never rode it, sad to hear its in storage.
I remember when they had a top scan at my home park on long island. Sombody ended up getting killed when they flew off the ride when the restraint failed. They took it down after that. Very unfortunate incident.
We have a Mondial Top Scan at my home park (Samurai at Lagoon) that I operated when I worked there, and still one of the most popular flat rides there. One of my favorite rides to work, it had an onboard soundtrack that various traditional Japanese music tracks to set the scene. Though, there was one time a guest did throw up after getting off, so to some it's definitely a nauseating ride... Guess just depends how strong of a stomach you got.
My wife frequently mentions the time her brother made her ride the Samurai and she threw up afterward. I'm guessing from the "have fun and don't lose your sushi" part on the safety notice sign that this isn't uncommon.
Seeing that Chinese ride and the X Drive mentioned makes me wonder why the KMG Tango didn't make it into this episode, I get that it's fairly different ride but it always felt like it belonged with a Top Scan? (If that made any sense)
The Space Roller in America. Owned by Jeremy Floyd was recently sold to a showman in UK. I’m assuming it won’t be leaving for the UK until the end of summer. Last chance to ride it this summer.
To be honest, the Mondial Inferno deserved its own video. For those who live in Europe, the "Airwolf" was recently purchased by Weber and is now located at SAD Maschinenbau. I think Weber will bring to the German fair in 2021 or 2022. As for which Inferno was more intense? I believe the "Airwolf" was the most intense, it is also the only one with hydraulic engines.
Spectra Nyte Not the Tango, the top Scan. It can really throw you back and fourth violently depending on when and how you ride it. Perhaps it’s not such a painful experience, but definitely an intense one. I’ve never ridden a Tango however, and I probably never will. Those things look nasty.
I've been on 3 Top Scans, Samurai at Thorpe Park, The Beast at Fantasy Island, which I believe has been relocated to Saudi and a travelling one that popped up at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland one year.
I have never rode a top scan before, even though the place my county fair’s rents their rides from has one available, I wish I could ride one of these amazing attractions.
I tend to avoid certain spinning rides to avoid nausea. If this didn't make you nauseous, it makes me think the next time I'm at Knott's and I'm feeling tip top, I'll give Sol Spin a try. Thanks.
The x drive is not sold to otten. Otten travels with almost al kmg prototypes, he rents the machines from kmg for a low cost so new buyers can see them in action on fairs
I wouldn't say they're family of the Top Scan. They're more similar to the Loopfighters, and the Pegasus 30 is completely different from a Top Scan. I'd say it's a ride on its own.
Is Canada's Wonderland the only park with both Airwolf and Top Scan? Also, wouldn't you consider the Zieier(sp?) Starshape a similar ride to the Top Scan?
I’ve ridden a space roller and let me tell you it is intense I’m bigger than my friend and she sat at the end closer to the arm and I sat at the other end just to see what would happen and that was one of the most intense ride we had that night
Hopefully this gets seen. I just found some videos recently of yours from accidentally and what not that happened and it made me curious that you must have medical professionals. I saw you work at cedar point. I live in columbus and have my emt license and thought it would be cool to work there. What should I know about ways to work there in the summer and housing and all that
The "Pegasus" made by Technical Park is somewhat comparable to a Top Scan although it actually feels quite different. But, both rides can get VERY intense :-)
I wouldn't say they're family of the Top Scan. They're more similar to the Loopfighters, and the Pegasus 30 is completely different from a Top Scan. I'd say it's a ride on its own.
@@SchwarzkopfFanboy would say that they are from the same family since the pegasus 16 has a diagonal rotation, that there is only one pillar and that the gondola is lifted thanks to a hydraulic sway system, the loopfighter family rather belongs to that of pendulum rides

Nice video! There is also a German version of this ride called "Star Shape" by Zierer. It's a bit taller.
I think starshapes should deserve its own video because its different enough
The star shape also moves like a fully inverting frisbee....
We mentioned the Star Shape in Flat Ride of the Week Episode 7: ua-cam.com/video/gqcYCdG8z38/v-deo.html
it's actually a bit of a combination of a frisbee and a top scan. it moves back and forth and goes upside down like a frisbee, but the gondolas look and spin like those on a top scan.

I’ve ridden Space Roller when it was at the Meadowlands Fair in my state I love these rides I’ve also ridden the one at Carowinds
I enjoy these videos so much, thank you for putting out such interesting content! Subscribed!

Dude i love this series thanks for make making my day 👍
i love the “ElectroSpin” at carowinds but I have also gotten stuck on it in the middle of summer , a few years ago I saw it get stuck very very often
I saw that one stuck sideways for 30 minutes a few weeks ago when it was 100 degrees.
Shockwave at Canada's Wonderland is honestly one of my favorite flat rides at the park!
I rode the one in Carowinds!! The on ride footage gave me great memories.
I rode my first Top Scan 3 days ago! Yes, Top Scan's are awesome rides!
i love top scans they are really intense
I’m from Australia and it’s called Space Roller :)

The ride off ride looks mesmerizing
Over 10 years ago I rode something very similar to this ride in Virginia called Tango. I haven't seen it since, but it was a great ride.

Canada's Wonderland has a Top Scan called Shockwave. Definitely one of my favourite rides at the park.

that last ride, its like 1 mad trip
Yeeeah i have been wanting this for ages

You should do the Tagada flat ride next
This type of ride would look sweet at Six Flags Great Adventure
I rode samurai at Thorpe park in the uk. Was great and intense

Is that common with this ride?
There’s I Mondial topscan travelling model in Australia on the fair /show /carnival circuit also called space roller
Yeah I rode one at the Phillip island show a few years back
Bought from a Dutch showman called Hoefnagels, the name has been on the sign for years but is now removed.
Was my favourite ride here
Years ago KMG also came up with the Tango, which appears to be yet another competitor of the Top Scan.
if you ever do more of these in the future, make the other guy record with a better mic, sounds like he is inside of a cave❕ love this series❕❕❕
These are incredible!
Van der beek also made the city hopper(jumper) that was their first ride. After that the spinball and sound machine

The beast at fantasy island was the best one of these, it was ABSOUTLEY PHENOMENAL, and had a marathon of a cycle.....
I remember when they had a top scan at my home park on long island. Sombody ended up getting killed when they flew off the ride when the restraint failed. They took it down after that. Very unfortunate incident.
Brandon Williams Yikes
Yesss i remember this it was a lady i think he restraint failed mid ride and she was ejected and landed on a car in the parking lot and died
This was the only every incident on a top scan
Oof R.I.P.

Please do the Extasy. I’ve seen POV’s and it’s crazy. Do it one day.
It's one of the best flatrides in the world: unique, intense and with an immersive lightshow at night.

These things are fun. Painful, but fun.
Painful? Are you sure you aren't confusing this with Tango? Tango has the bicycle style seats which make for an uncomfortable ride to say the least...

There was a top scan at Adventure Land Long island NY where a lady was ejected mid ride and died
This came to Australia too spaceroller i remember around 2007 maybe
Why do the main arm and gondola arm always rotate in the same direction? I want to see a version with counter-spinning like scrambler rides
There is another Ventura model in Hong Kong, Wild Twister, often mislead as a topscan
What was the topscsan at Carowinds called when it was travelling Europe?
That's a nice far cry 3 blood Dragon logo, nice

I guess there isn't much info on rides that tour around Australia cause there was no mention of the space roller that tours around here.
It is 4 in the morning 😑.
Never been on one, but it looks cool. Also looks like the Zierer (idk how to spell it) Star Shape.
There are 2 transportable topscans in the UK
I love ur vids ;-:
you miss another attraction there is also a ride called black out at the German fair and it also looks a lot like the top scan

I wanna say the Zierer Star Shape is a competitor to the Mondial Topscan cuz it is like the Sol Spin and Evolution but faster
I-it's jake... from state farm
Hi jake
you should do the chaos ride next
How about a video about Evolution by FarFabbri
Samurai thorpe is my local one
Awesome vid!
talley amusements has most of the rides at thee texas state fair , for it is totally an indipendant fair
Neat
Idk if it would be a good thing to add but there’s a ride called OMG that would probably be a competitor
