Good work on how gas is expelled from the bolt carrier.
I was lucky enough to see the director's cut with the special sound effects. Much preferred over this version. Good work nonetheless.
Hey thanks guy :P I really think folks would have appreciated the special effects 🌬️

That's because bullets travel pretty fast
Matt, while the gas does impart a force onto the BCG, it simultaneously does it to the bolt. this forward force is maintained as the BCG moves rearward, and relieves the pressure on the bolt lugs as the rotate and unlock from battery

I must say I honestly prefer the description given on the LAPG AR15 gun cleaning mat.
The AR-15 automatic rifle gun (which is commonly known as the AR-15) is a magazine fed, with semi-automatic and fully automatic tire modes. It is a light. gas Center-fire rifle gun.
The 5.56mm AR-15 caliber rifle is primarily the recognized ideal gun by several police departments and also accepted widely by the world shooting sports enthusiasts.
Operation Mode: AR-15 uses gas blowing operation mode. When a bullet crosses through the pores in the top of the gun, a gas is discharged from the gun barrel. Then, the gas goes into the air-bag and into the trachea barrel. The upper case base has its pipe connected by links to the AR-15
During activation, the air in the pipeline passes throughout the funnel into the bolt carrier. After air enters the bolt part. then the bolt is moved in the opposite direction. When the air is in the rear section of the mobile gun, then the bolt and barrel extension begin to shift for bullet release. When the bolt is released at the back section, the bullet shells are isolated at the same time.
The groove cam into the upper receiver block prevents the firing pin from turning into a closed position. The locking seat, then another bullet gets into the feeding ramp. In the extension of the container casing, a cam can be rotated into a grinding machine box access when the bolt locking seats. The rotation movement is made with the groove into the bolt; then the bolt rotates and locks the barrel extension.
This is why many argue the AR-15 is not a true direct impingement system. On most DI rifles the gas port dead ends on a cup on the bolt or carrier, such as on the French MAS-49.
yep, just a highly modified gas piston system (smol)
I've just taken to calling it the Internal/Stoner piston because it truly is unique
You need to do more shorts of this!
You might not remember me, but a long time ago I expressed my appreciation for your showcase of how an ak47 works, but I was and continue to be appreciative of these videos. You make works of great quality and educative value! I'll always be thankful, matt!

Well explained. Most people don't realize the AR is not a direct impegiment system.
The video loops good too
Glad you noticed :) I did notice a slight freeze, but I blame UA-cam for that, cuz it should loop properly!

"sorry sir the ice cream machine is-"
It’s all fun and games until they finish the sentence with “Working”
Eugene Stoner is a true genius of mankind. He thought up that entire system and worked out the pressure and volume math to make it work in it's simplest form.

I always wondered how all that carbon got built up on the back of the bolt now I know thank you.
Forgot to mention the bolt rotates as the carrier moves rearwards.
It's how the AR gas system works, not how the AR locking system works.
Stoner was a real genius when he cooked up this rifle. the gas block was nothing new, but it was the way he designed it that made it extremely maintenance friendly compared to other gas operated rifles of the time and weighed significantly less than the M1 and M14 rifles.
"Sir,can i have your license and registration?"
Gas Impingement System. Not Enough People Clean The Key Or Maintain Their Rings. Most People Never Even Break Down The BCG.

LMAO imagine being a gas station worker and a guy just walks in with his AR like "hey I need some gas for my gun, it's not working anymore" and proceeds to pull the trigger multiple times, while the magazine is empty.

The Gas Rings are behind the exit of the gas key on the bolt carrier.
The gas hitting the rings forces the bolt backwards as it cams on the cam pin to begin unlocking the bolt from the chamber.

And it became immediately apparent to everyone why the gas piston system is much superior to the original design.

Great way to show how bolt carrier works.
Just a quick thing, I believe inertia is the wrong term. If I recall, inertia is an objects ability to resist change in velocity. A better term would be momentum. Not trying to be rude, just don’t want people to be misinformed.
Thank you for this video. I just got into fire arms and was not aware of these functions of this model of gun
What a piece of engineering! this is art!
Thanks! I had only recently heard the term "dwell time" and I was curious as to what it meant.
the space between the bolt & carrier fills with gas, then the gas disappears and the space is refilled. besides that the animation is great
Nice demonstration, simple system has deadly results.
One of the greatest systems ever
I absolutely love these videos. kindly crank up the production and put more videos out!! Thx
This is actually really cool! Thanks!!
Sounds like an interesting system which is one hell to maintain.
This is a really good visual description.
Very good rifle design. One of many reasons they are so popular in the US.
Please make a video of how the revolver works, maybe Colt M1892 or M1909
I wonder if you can do presentations on technology? Where you use an electric effect around the wires and remove pieces from the board to explain each one’s functions as you go down into the next board detailing the compactness of the item and it’s features. Just a thought if you’re doing this recreationally.
I love having visual to help understand
Why buy expensive gas from gas stations when you can get gas from the mighty AR-15

Great system
The only thing missing about the bolt carrier group is how, when the bolt carrier travels back as the internal chamber pressurizes, the bolt get turned by the cam pin to unlock it.
thats the best animation explaining it that I've seen yet

The designer was in the zone with his invention.
More rightly referred to as a gas impinging tube operating system. Other systems are gas piston, either short or long. Recoil operation systems. Or, the blow back operation system.
