Thank you ☺️ this was good....our daughter wanted sweet peas years ago. We are in high desert as is Laura on Garden Answer. A little wary of trying them because of our 90 and 100 + degree weather. Our daughter has been in heaven with JESUS for almost 11 years now...I know my tears will still water them in ( the sweet peas that is) can't wait to see
This was such a pleasure. I would like to know how long each pot of Sweet Peas last once planted.could you talk about your potted Maples. Do you keep them in the pots? They add so much to the space with all the other potted plants.
As soon as I started this video, my heart cried out for Denmark. I recognized your accent and thought back fondly of our 19months in Nærum. We absolutely loved being there. What a stunning country. Now I am learning yet again from the Danish wisdom. Thank you so much for sharing this super helpful video!
Thank you again, Claus! And I didn’t know that about the cuttings!!! I just planted some sweet peas directly along my fence…and the dogs seem to be leaving it alone 😇! (And your English is fantastic! I’m grateful 😇.)
Such helpful information! I’m growing Sweet Peas from seed for the first time this year. I had no idea I could keep sewing them each month. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge.🙌🏼
Thank you Claus. I grow my cuttings in a glass of water and pot them up when they start to grow roots. Taking cuttings is such a fabulous way of increasing our stock of sweet pea plants- more blooms for the house and to give to friends and family, in the summer :-)
I remember walking down a long path to elementary school where both sides of the fence were covered with sweet peas. It was so pretty. Thank you for bringing back a sweet memory from my Ky childhood days.
We do have a problem here in Florida, zone 9b. I do soak and plant them in the soil directly. They do germinate, but I don't cut the shoots. And we get heat so quickly in Spring that the peas only bloom a couple weeks. Thanks Claus, I will try your way late in fall. Maybe I'll have better success in our cooler weather. 🌿💚🌿
Hi Claus. Greetings from Ontario, Canada. I'm so looking forward to your videos on UA-cam. I found you through Laura at Garden Answer and follow you on Instagram, always. Your potted bulb displays are stunning as is your entire garden and home. Thank you so much for sharing! I am anxiously waiting for your new book.
Thank you for this info. This is my first time growing Sweet Peas, every other video I've seen they all say they do not like to have their roots disturbed, really nice to see that isn't the case.
Really appreciate you giving us the spelling of the variety of sweet pea to try. I usually just direct sow the seeds so I had no idea about trimming the seedlings and since you can double the seedlings, I will make sure I start the seeds indoor and trim them. Thanks for the great video.
Claus, you're the real deal, you have farmer fingers. Your pot displays of mixed flowers are extraordinary and inspiring. Sharing the variety of plants and seeds you plant is helpful. I appreciate your warm demeaner. I don't want to miss any of you videos.
I am in Zone 5a, Canada. My sweet peas are doing much better in mid October then it did in July, Aug and Sept. Your video is what I really needed to learn more about the sweet peas. Thank you!
I'm in US zone 5, with sandy soil. I plant seeds in the ground in August, they germinate and stay small and green all Winter. Even under feet of snow and -15F. When it warms up in Spring, they start growing again. The stems are extremely thick, leaves dark green and already blooming in May. In wet clay soil, might be a different story, worth trying it though.
I'm in New Zealand where we are just entering winter. I direct sowed my first lot of sweet pea seeds as I was planting my bulbs during autumn. I've noticed the autumn sown sweet peas are always more robust than the ones I plant in spring. I'm amazed to hear that your seedlings survive the snow and such harsh temperatures! It gets cold here in winter (well - what we call cold lol) and I live near NZ's 2nd highest mountain (Mt Taranaki), but it's a rare thing to get snow around here. Good luck with your gardening - I can't wait for spring!
@@deborahmac1997 I would just try it with a few seeds to make sure it works for you. That way you don't waste them all. I would also try planting them in September in your zone, we can freeze early that's why I picked August.
I've just potted some seeds having never grown sweet peas before (just followed the instructions on the packet). I then came across this video, so I hope that they will still come as I didn't soak them before putting in the pots. Thank you Claus for sharing your knowledge, and your lovely manner made for a great video.
I grew some sweet peas this year for the first time via winter sowing (Zone 7A NJ). I was nervous at first because I always thought you can’t disturb their roots and with winter sowing you will have to separate them. I already transplanted them on the ground and so far so good. No blooms yet but they’re definitely growing tall. Crossing my fingers they bloom. Seeing you starting multiple seeds in 1 container gives me even more confidence now.
I came to learn when to remove the growing tips and am delighted to find the removed part can be rooted. Do I see a grin of delight on Mr Dalby's face as he's potting those cuttings? There will be on mine!
The pleasure is all mine - thank you for watching my video. Sweet peas are amazing and no garden should be without them in my opinion. Remember to deadhead and pick as many flowers as you like to keep them flowering. The best of luck.
I was happy to come across this tutorial on sweet peas, I have two pots grown long so I will be able to prune them use these as cuttings. Also that you sow monthly for new crop is a great tip. Many thanks Plantaholicger Geraldine I appreciate
I’ve never been into sowing flowers. But I did it this year. I put them in a glass of water and set it on my heat mat. I got busy and after 3 days, they sprouted in the water. I planted immediately. After 3 weeks, they went outside in my containers. Easiest flower I ever started.
An excellent tutorial Claus! You are very set on detail, hence I can say, you reap what you sow. Like most things in life, preparation/foundation is the key element. Love the metal stakes, they can be recycled for many years to come. Also, you mentioned you plant the sweet peas throughout summer, which means you have a continual flow of beautiful flowers! I was told where we live, planting times, the better seasonal time is spring and then before autumn. Those were the old rules, now I am so happy that we can plant throughout spring to autumn. You are so encouraging to me, giving me such inspiration to not stagnate but to keep going. You truly are a blessing in my life, I am sure to many other gardeners as well as we can always learn new techniques from each other. Thank you.
All of your videos are so uplifting and inspirational. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and your gardens, Claus! This one is perfect for me as I am about to sow Sweet Peas indoors for the first and now I feel confident to do it!
I am with you, sweet peas are easy to grow! I grew some from seed over 20 years ago, and the spread and tried to take over the garden. I have been trying to get rid of them for several years, but new ones keep popping up. I have them some what contained now. :) I do like them, but from now on I will grow them in containers, like you do! Never thought of that before. Thank you
Super Claus, as always. Can’t wait to see how the sweet peas do. Thank you for showing how to propagate. Great tips! You are wonderful please don’t stop.
Thank you Claus, I love the gardening passion you project and the deliberate and precise way you present the information: I'm very happy I've discovered your UA-cam Channel.
This was very helpful. I started my sweet peas from seed this year for the first time using the cold method. They are in the garden now, but not growing very much. I think I may have put them in the ground too soon. I will go ahead and give them some fertilizer and just be patient! I'm glad you demonstrated how to root the cuttings. This will be helpful in multiplying my crop next year. Also, the fact that you separated the cuttings by hand and put them in the larger pot was important to know. Some of the other videos I have watched cautioned that sweet peas don't like to have their roots disturbed. They must be more adaptable than we think. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I have never heard of being able to take the tops of the cuttings and root them again for double the number of seeds planted, wow‼️
Same.
Neither have I, and this is the third 'how to' videos I've watched on Sweet Peas.
Nor me. Certainly going to give it a go.
I have 😊
I would never have thought of taking cuttings from the sweet pea seedlings, what a great idea!
Absolutely perfect timing. I was just lamenting about how poor my knowledge is about sweet peas! Now I know!! Thank you, Claus!!
I had no idea you could root the sweet pea cuttings! I’m definitely doing that from now on.
I find Claus so calming to watch and listen to - such a lovely disposition. I could watch him all day... 😊
Claus really enjoyed the doubling of the Sweet peas, hope we are as successful as you and your team. Best wishes from London,UK.

Thanks for this encouraging tutorial, Claus! Very detailed and precise. Will definitely grow my own sweet peas from now on.
I started sweet peas using winter sowing in zone 5b in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦. Excited to transplant them to a pot and watch them flower.
I look forward to your videos and get very happy when you post one! Thank you so much!

Great tip for getting double the plants from a packet of seeds.
Thanks for taking the mystery out of growing sweet peas!
Thank you for the guidelines for rooting the cuttings. I’ve never seen or heard of this being done.
