My opinion is that scratches are part of the game, the sooner you accept them the sooner you will have fun, especially if you have to assemble the mousses. But even if you have inner tubes, there will come a time when you have to repair a puncture and remove a tire in the woods, which is very different than doing it in the garage.
Thats a MX problem! When you do enduro, you will scratch your rim with rocks on the first ride. You don’t care for another scratch when come time to change the tire 🤷🏻♂️

It is. I went from tyre irons flying across the garage to being able to change tyres like Jay does. Good tools, technique and I've made a stand from his specs. Makes all the difference.
Some tyre fitter's say you must get the tyre into the raised section of the rim, or it won't go on. You didn't appear to need to do that and made it look easy!. I managed to fit mine with great difficulty and a bit of luck with Metzeller tyres, but when I changed to a Michelin Anakee Wild tyre the sidewall is much stiffer-I did just about get it on, but the bead was out of line and I had to take the wheel to a workshop and get a pro to refit it. Even then, the mechanic said it was a difficult job, maybe it's just that particular Michelin tyre. Another job I found difficult was getting the O Ring between the muffler and end cap on a KTM EXC-F Exhaust, a video on that would be much appreciated! Great channel by the way!

It’s smooth curved metal. I take my time on nice rims. Jay’s a pro at this too. Tire lube / paste helps too. I worked at a tire dealership for 12 years
I was wanting some of those yellow Dunlop tire stickers, and contacted Dunlop. They said that, although the average rider is their bread and butter and what keeps them afloat. They only give those stickers out to professional or elite racers. They must have never heard of eBay so I bought a stack of them and thought that I would sell some because I have way more than I will ever need well long story short I’ve made it a goal of mine to buy as many as I can and just hand them out to all of the c and d class riders I can find for free. I think your average person nowadays are tired of things only being for the elite.

I am looking at Cardo intercom systems( thinking of Freecom 2X ), for just my son and I, and wondering if you have any reviews on which models/ systems you have used. And what date are those videos, so I can look them up. Any help is appreciated.
The way he's levering doesn't slide it across the edge. It's more of a roll over it. If you're scratching the rim, it's because you're sliding the spoon on the rim and using the wrong technique. It takes a little practice to figure it out.
Hi. I've been changing dirt bike tires for a little more than 46 years, and I'd like to mention 2 small things and 1 big thing. It's best to start with the sprocket side down, which you did, and you can slide the first bead all of the way over the rim lock, rather than fighting the first bead over the rim lock after having the first bead all of the way on the rim. The big thing is that damned stupid tape crap!! If you don't keep a bike for long, or you cut off the tape with every tire change, then tape is OK. However, water and dirt will still get under the tape, and corrode the spokes and nipples, and of you don't take the effort to clean and lube the nipples, you will end up with spokes that can't be tightened. The rubber band costs two dollars, and it's much easier to remove and replace than the tape. I can not count the number of wheels and spokes that I've had to replace for people that thought that the tape would keep dirt and water away from the nipples. All of you cheap, lazy people that have been recommending this for the last fifty years, have done incalculable financial harm to the people that listened to you!!! While your bad advice makes me money, you do a disservice to people that are looking for advice, but don't understand the bigger picture about maintenance. If you are going to recommend tape, at least let people know that they need to remove the tape whenever they change a tire, and clean and lube the nipples. The "tape trick might have been an OK idea in the fifties and sixties when dirt bikes had steel rims that didn't last very long, from the seventies on, taping without regular removal to clean and lube the nipples has just ruined countless wheels, spokes, and nipples. Cut it out!!!
Hey Jay, how about using the same stand and same tire irons and change a tire with a bib mouuse or tire balls in it? I'm guessing you don't think that a machine like the Rabaconda is worth it?
I honestly don’t understand why anyone that’s not a professional run tubes, flats are the fastest way to DNF. With new options like mousse balls you have “pressure” control with no flat risks. UltraHD tubes really are not much lighter so the weight argument is not valid. Sure you can make adjustments but most people don’t anyway they run 12-13psi all the time, so just run a mousse and stop worrying about flats.
Who are these boys in the comments worrying about scratches the way some girls worry about breaking a nail or scratching a manicure? And this is a girl writing this. In cases like these - when you're so worried - it's just best to put the machine in a garage, throw a blanket over it and not even look at it. (Just in case your sight is too sharp) 😆🙂🙂
The trials guys are extremely picky when changing tires. They use those million dollar European rims, yeah not really a million dollars but very expensive. I'm into both enduro and trials which in some ways relate to each other in a way.
Anyone else ever get a virus when going to the website to get the plans? I tried years ago and it literally took over my phone and locked out all email. It’s the only time anything like that has ever happened to me. Would love to get the plans for the stand, but am too afraid to try again. It’s also pretty suspicious that we must email him for the plans. Just give the link to the file. Why would you want to reply to thousands of people for the plans???

I like to blow the tube up to seat the bead, but then I’ll let the air out and fill to normal pressure before I tighten the bead lock.

I use dish soap 50/50 with water. Dries clean and stays on petfect to help with bead seating.
