You are a tremendous teacher, sooooo encouraging!
I so enjoyed watching your knitting tutorial on knitting down. You did a super, really great job and you seem to be such a lovely lady. I have knitted for many, many years but I learned quite a bit, especially how to go top down and NO seams. I love it. Thank you so very much and I will be back. Best to you, Jasmine
Thank you Jasmine for your sweet words and support.
I promise to always try to encourage, and help you
to be a bright shining star! Stay tune, new designs
are coming. Smiles from J.
I love your tutorials J you are such a fun person to be knitting with you, I love your laughter an good sense of humor
Thank you so much. You are the best teacher in knitting
Wow, thank you for all your support! You have made my
day, and Smiles from J.
Hi such beautiful soul you are thanks for sharing always was looking for an adult size raglan sweater. Looking forward for more tutorials take care.
that's beautiful on you, bless you for your kind, patient tutorial.💞💞
Hi J. I don't have DPN's so I am using the 32" long number 9 circular needle to do my sleeve and cuff. I hope it turns out as this is the first adult sweater I have knitted. I knit a baby cardigan, I missed a couple of stitches, but I don't care. The baby will grow out of it so soon. But, I want this to be nice. Thank you for your wonderful tutorial. I plan to make another sweater for my mom out of my handspun Merino/silk yarn that I will spin myself. Wish me luck on that venture. Thank you again for your sharing and laughter. Makes me happy:)
Hi Jody, and thank you for giving my design a try. If you are an experienced knitter, then use what you know how to do, but DPN's works the best for me.
Good idea to practice with regular yarn, then go to your nicer yarn for your mom's sweater. Please keep me posted on your progress, and send 2 or 3 pics when you finish, infor at the end of this video. Smiles from J.
Your tutorial inspired me to knit my first sweater! You made it simple and fun. I really appreciate that you use yarns that are readily available and inexpensive. I can’t wait to start another one! Thank you for all the work you put into this video series.
Thank you so much for this encouraging comment. It helps to know that people do get what you are trying to share. This is knitting without a written pattern, but learning how to find and use your own numbers that will fit your body. Once you follow the tutorial, like you have, then the next sweater will be much easier, and you can change any base numbers up or down by 4 stitches. Ex: The next top down sweater will have pretty lace down the front, so I think that I will take 4 stitches of my sleeve of 60, down to 56 for a slimmer fit. If your back was to loose, then take 4 stitches off, then re-do the easy math formula. Now everytime you want a top down sweater, using med. weight yarn on US #9 needles, all the counting is done, just knit and have fun! Smiles from J.
I'm knitting this sweater. I'm on the sleeves now. Your tutorial makes it so easy to knit along. Thanks for teaching me how to knit a sweater. Never thought I could do it!
Nancy, I'm so excited for you! This one sweater will become many as we add different stitches, and you will be able to add your own touch as you grow. For now, don't worry about any mistakes, make a note of them and learn with each sweater, and if you have to change some of the increase or decrease numbers, just go up or down by 4 stitches to fit your body. Once you finished this sweater, then you can give Top Down Sweater 102 a try, and be sure to send me 2 or 3 pictures when you finish. Happy Knitting! Smiles from J.
Just now finding this, so excited to try my first sweater! Thank you for your time and patience with this tutorial, looking forward to see your others.
I have been knitting along and I am enjoying watching you. You make it look so easy end fun. Will watch the next videos when I am done with this sweater. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Many blessings your way🙏❤️🌻
Thank you so much Lucinda for giving my design a try. Take your time and follow each step, and each time we knit this style sweater, you will be able to adjust the fit and add some new lace stitches too. Happy Knitting! Smiles from J.
Just saw your videos and your knitting and crocheting is so beautiful. I would love to knit those sweaters. Love your colours and all of them. Gorgeous patterns. Thank you. Love it.
I have enjoyed this series of tutorials so much. I will watch your others too. Thanks so much for explaining everything so clearly. Thanks for laughing too. It made it fun for me.
Thank you so much for your sweet comments, and I'm so glad to have you join us. Guess what? I have just started a new Top Down sweater, and this time I'm adding a double front edge lace panel: ua-cam.com/video/QCnxdF8Vc3o/v-deo.html , so I hope that you will enjoy this one as well. Thanks again for watching, smiles from J.
As an easier option than double pointed needles for sleeves, use 2 circulars 1/2 of sleeve stitches on each. I use 4 total - 2 sets on each sleeve and I change sleeves at each decrease to do both alternately or taat ( 2 at a time). This method is much less fiddly than dpns. Try it. You can use any length circular, they don’t have to match in length, only tip size.
Good Morning Catherine, and thank you so much for
such an easy tip! Happing Knitting, and Smiles from J.
PS. Don't forget to send 2 or 3 pictures to the Gmail at
the end.
Great tip! Thanks! 🌹🌹
classic stylish pieces,by a classic stylish lady.💕💕
Thank you so much for all the work you did to show us newbies how to knit top down. I loved it!
Thank you so much for watching, and remember we all are newbies at one time or two! LOL! If you want to give this step x step sweater design a try, I suggest that you use a light color solid yarn to keep track of each step. Happy Knitting, and smiles from J.
You did a fabulous job of working the colors. I’m not in the frame of mind to do that at this time, so mine will be in one color. The eyelet increases are so pretty, and I like the three-quarter sleeves and longer ribbing. Goodnight ‘J’.
Thank so much, and I'm smiling to see that you get it, and that you are making your own decisions to knit this sweater. Happy Knitting! Smiles from J.
Beautiful sweater Ms J you always do beautiful work. Enjoyed the visit and I hope you have a great weekend
Thank you so much for watching, it means a lot to me. Smiles from J.
Many many thanks J and God Bless you and your family take care
Thanks, and please let me know how it turns out, since I have not used this yarn yet. Smiles from J.
I think you did a brilliant job. I'm enjoying it immensely.
Thanks my friend, it means a lot to me. Smiles from J.
It’s beautiful, you are such a good knitter and teacher. Thanks so much ❤️❤️❤️
a nice video and lovely cardigan. I'm going to start my cardigan this weekend. happy mothers day to all for Sunday
Thank you so much for giving my design a try. I checked, and our Mother's Day in the states is in May, but thank you again. Smiles from J.
You are a wonderful teacher 🌹❤️.
Thank you so much for watching, and Happy Knitting! Smiles from J.
My gosh J, this turned out so beautiful. Great color combo, you have such a good eye. I decided I'm not quite ready to venture into knitting and will stick with crochet, for now anyway. As you've said, if you don't know what to do, then do what you know...and I am, with a lot of your patterns already in the works, lol! Really looking forward to what you have in store for us next! Thank you and hope all's well in your world. :)
Thanks Helene, and I trying to come up with some new projects to share, so have fun and crochet on! Smiles from J.
Oh dear J what a commitment and dedication to knitting, you were knitting and shooting at 1am, hats off to you. From where you get so much of energy? Just loved and enjoyed this knit along. Take care. Thank you.
Thanks for watching, and I do my best work at night! I saw some nice sites for knitting baby sweaters that you might search for, because they are small and would not take as long to make. Happy Knitting! Smiles from J.
Thank you so much J for taking time out of your busy schedule.
OK, I am done with the bottom ribbing!! Now, on to the sleeves!! I like the way my sweater is fitting real well on the top and half way down the body but I think next one I will increase to make it a little more A-line...seems like my stomach is bigger these days and if I want to button it, I might need a little more room toward the bottom. I think I can do that, don't you? LOL I have so enjoyed this KAL, and I know it was a LOT of work for you Ms J...thank you so much!! Off to do my sleeves and looking forward to the next project. Take care!! :)
Thank you my friend for test knitting this cardigan for me. Yes, and now you can make your own adjustments. If your sleeves are ok after adding the pick up stitches, and you don't need any more stitch under the arm space for your bust line, then add an increase in 1 stitch before the front edge border on each side until you have added enough sts. to fit across your stomach and lower body. I hope that this helps! Smiles from J.
You are a knitting machine!! I have about 6" to go on the body still. Great lesson. Will keep working and will finish asap! Thanks again for all you do!
Thank Jo, but I knit fast because I'm old and every minute counts! LOL!!! Please take your time, make good notes, and enjoy this knitting journey with me. Smiles from J.
I like the pink only at the bottom too. Looks very nice, as all your work does.
Thanks Roxey, but stripes are a lot of work, even with this yarn. Smiles from J.
Love those colors ❤
Thank you for your tutorial, I chose to use two balls of yarn, rotating between sleeves, using your decrease method, so that they are both even and done near the same time.
J's Help Box: For med. length sleeves, decrease at the end of every 4 rnds.
For longer sleeves, decrease at the end of every 6 rnds.
Make color changes after 2 decrease rnds.
Note: At 31:30 on tutorial, after making all your decreases, knit only 1 round before starting your 1 x1 ribbing for the cuffs.
Oh thank you so much
Found you through a knit page on FB. I’ve been struggling with a requested striped sweater for my grand daughter. This is a Godsend! Thanks!
Thank you so much for watching, and welcome to J's K&P Jam! Smiles from J.
Thanks Ms J for sharing your beautiful knitting!
I really enjoyed it it’s so beautiful thanks for sharing
love ya god bless I enjoy this many thanks.
Thanks again so very much. I loved doing this so much that I have started sweater # 2 !!!!
Thanks Ginny for test knitting this cardigan with me! I was so excited when I finished, I too picked out more yarn to start another one. It's so nice to always have something easy like this on your needles at all times, and it's a stash buster!!!!! Happy Knitting, smiles from J.
You do such beautiful work!!
Thank you so much for watching, and for your sweet comment. Smiles from J.
Hi J many thanks for replying so promptly ok so I understand better now.
Just one more thing can I do a really long swatch 250 stitches with chunky or super chunky yarn using US size 10
11 12 needles in stockingnet like yours I can steam it and calculate how many stitches it takes to go around my body and then just round the number up or down so it’s divisible by 4.
Then I can knit all your sweaters that you have tutorials on UA-cam In a thicker yarn if I want to and the fit should come out just perfect for me including this one.
Sounds like a good plan. Use the needle size on the ban, knit a long swatch
to count across your front only and remember to stretch it to get a good count, then round it up or down to the closest number if it's not div. by 4. For your sleeves, use the same swatch to stretch around the top of your arm and count out and round off the stitches there too. Now you have your numbers to make the math formula. I know that you can do, so Happy Knitting! Smiles from J.
Hello Ms J, thank you for inspiring me to try a sweater top down. I am loving it so much more than knitting two pieces and trying to match them up. I’ve got two questions: 1. I’m using Sweet Roll. Is it normal for color changes in the yarn to show up on the garter stitch buttonhole band “right” side? Not sure I like the look but keeps happening. 2) could you show the entire body of the sweater down to the bottom in pictures and/or modeling? I’d like to see how it’s supposed to fit in the lower back and across the front. May want to increase a bit at waistline!
Thank you if you have time to answer I’d appreciate it! Yes it was hard work but so worthwhile🙂
Thank you so much for watching, and welcome to J's K&P Jam. Since we knit the band the same on both sides of the work, you will see the garter stitch, but when you finish it looks really nice. Sorry, I could not fit the whole sweater into the camera shot, but you can add to the length as needed. Happy Knitting! Smiles from J.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge !!
I have finished my sweater. It is in lavender. Nice and springy.
Sounds great! Yes, and don't forget to set your clocks ahead this weekend. Smiles from J.
I am making my sweater to be a bit longer and am almost there. My sleeves will be longer too. First time trying double point needles. Have you done magic loop? Your sweater looks great! Would love to see it on you! Thank you for the lesson J and all the hard work.
Thank you for joining me on my first KAL, and I hope that you will enjoy the journey on knitting with your own numbers. DPNs are great when you need them, but they do take a little practice. It sounds like you are on your way, so Happy Knitting! Smiles from J.

Hi J can I use other size needles with other size yarns?
What I mean is if I do a swatch of the yarn I want to use and change my needle size until I get the 4 stitches to an inch, will that needle size and yarn be ok to use for your projects?
I have a box of yarn different weights from size double knit to super chunky I would like to use them for your projects
Can I use them to knit your projects as long as I use needles that give me 4 stitches to an inch?
This sweater is worked in med. weight yarn on a US #9. You do not have to have 4 stitches to the inch, but you do need to know how many stitches it takes to go across the front of you body, and if that number is not div. by 4, then round it up. Once you have a number, then look at the size chart and pick the closes one for you, and use it to make this sweater. If you follow this step x step tutorial, you will get a nice sweater. Then the next time you make this sweater, you can change any number up or down by 4 stitches. I hope that you watch part 1 again and follow each step. Happy Knitting! Smiles from J.
Beautiful
Hi J
What a beautiful sweater, need to do it but can’t find your first 3 tutorials, I am new to your channel and just subscribed 🙏
Thank you so much, and welcome to J's K&P Jam!
I love knitting this sweater, but would suggest a solid
yarn on the first one and it will knit up faster.

Hello J hope you’re well I’m really enjoying knitting my first cardigan I really appreciate you, the work you put into your tutorials and your help and advise many many thanks.
Please as I am a new knitter can you explain to me about the projects you make am I right in saying that I can only use size 7 8 or 9 US Needles and I must get 4 stitches to an inch with a medium weight 4 yarn?
Also what happens if I don’t get 4 stitches to an inch should I just round up or down to the nearest Number divisible by 4?
Thanks for asking. Here in part 1: ua-cam.com/video/uPo9AhFqiHg/v-deo.html. I share how to do a reg. swatch x the number of inches, or how to make a longer swatch and count how many stitches it takes to fit across my body. Either way if your number is not div. by 4 at the end, then round it up. This makes the math so much easier to do. It is not about getting 4 stitches to the inch, it's all about how many stitches do you need across the front of you body. The formulas I share for this sweater is for med. weight yarns on a US #9 needle, and since you are a new knitter, a solid color yarn will work better for your sweater. I hope that this helps. Smiles from J.
I love this , I wish it was crochet, I don't knit
Thank you so much for watching, and stay tune, because I'm working to finish my spring crochet vest for March. Smiles from J.

J, I am thinking of moving to Warner Robbins, Ga. can you tell me if the Atlanta and central Georgia area offer group knitting, meetups and knitting guilds. I love♥️ knitting and cannot bear of moving to a place that did not have a wonderful fiber community
Thanks for asking, and welcome to Georgia! You could check with local churches, schools, libraries, and senior centers as a start, or look on Ravelry's Meetup Group pages for more information. I hope that this helps. Smiles from J.

Hi! J, I want to know how many stitches should I cast on neck for large size top down cardigan . Love from Arunachal Pradesh, India.
Thanks for asking, but since this is a 4 part tutorial from
2018, you could try 88 stitches.
I will be doing a new and updated version of my Top Down

simple steps too, so I hope that you will wait until then.

I’ve been basic knitting for a few years now, I’ve only just started knitting garments and would love to know how I would go about being able to get your formula on how to knit this striped cardigan. I love the look of it but don’t know how to start. Is this Kal still available anywhere? I’m not sure where to look as I can’t see a video with the start of the Kal in your videos. How do you knit on dp needles, I have never figured that out.
Hi Lori! All you need to use dp needles is a little practice. Just search youtube and find someone to watch on how to use them. A lot of sock knitters use them on every project, so step out of the box and go for it! Smiles from J.
Could you also use a smaller length circular instead of double point?
Hi Julie and thanks for asking. Everything that I have shared, suggested, and demonstrated in the tutorial, is to help new knitters have good results at the end.
Once you get each step down, you will be able to knit this sweater over and over again, and you will understand what you are doing.
Take the time and work with the double points, so that when you have to use them again, it will be no problem. I hope that this helps. Smiles from J.
Will do thank you ms J!!
@@juliestancato Thank you Julie for not giving up, but remember that this is a journey and not a race to the finish line.

J I can't find the frist vidio
Hmm... Sleeves are working out well.. Following everything exactly.. Needles seemed to be in the exact same position and I am knitting along. Why is sleeve coming out as garter stitch?
We are knitting the sleeves in the round, so there are no purl rows to work. All the stitches should be in stockinette stitch. Does your sleeve look like my sleeve? Then stay calm and knit on! Smiles from J.
J's Knit and Purl Jam yes.. Just doing the knit stitch in the round.. Not on the purl side.. That's why when I looked.. It surprised me! Not sure why it is coming out that way.?
Then it can't be garter stitch, it can only be stockinette stitch, smooth on the front just like the top of the sweater. If this is not the case, then Houston, we have a problem! LOL! Look carefully to see if you changed something. J.
Are you sure that you are not doing the purl stitch? J.
When you picked up the stitches from the scrap yarn, you will put your needle in the purl position to slip all the stitches on to the needle, then once you have all the stitches picked up you can start knitting. J.

Hi my dear friend, and I missed you also. I am so sorry to hear that your husband passed away. I send you my prayers to add to the many you have already received. There is peace in knowing that others care for you. Smiles from J.
Thanks for your sweet and kind spirit, your kind words. Hugs. Tina
