loved tge video but i have to say- u did an unboxing just without the box lol as soon as u started saying everything tht came in the box and all the buttons n plug in’s lol but all the info abt the software and setting it up via computer was extremely helpful!
In an emergency, you would need to transceive, if you are licensed. If you don't need that option, choose a scanner. For commercial drone pilots, this transeive feature, is a last option if you don't have a cell phone connection. Great clip.
When I bought my FTA-550, the version sold with a rechargeable lithium battery pack was a full hundred bucks more!!!! So I just got the one with the dry cell case too! If your a Pilot and your going to use this as a second radio, you likely already have a separate "Airframe" mounted antenna and a plug in to get "juice" from the birds electrical system. Then, if need be, your regular "Headset" can plug right in to the FTA-550 ! Lots of folks flying true Antiques will need those dry cells anyway! And original 30's or 40's aircraft will likely NOT have any electrical system at all! (Which is exactly how I learned to fly over 50 years ago!) Cheers! 😉
I uk u need CAA licence for tx on airband and very strict regulations, also in uk legally we can't even as hobbyists listrn on airband, we do but it's illegal
Hello, on the FTA 550 - If I locked out the transmit button will that still work to perform other functions for the radio ? Also the FTA 550 software tab on the Yaesu website has numerous links under the software which one do I need for my radio? Thank you - Tony m.
Cool video. My son has to watch out with drones where he lives since he is somewhat near both Love Field and DFW. I will have to send him a FTW-550. Keep up the great work!
I'm not gonna do an unboxing... proceeds to show everything that's in the box... I see what you did there! I want an airband+ham TX HT. While I'm dreaming, I want bluetooth and APRS as well...
@@MeOnTech The airband mode is AM so that pilots can intermod with other traffic on the frequency. I just re-checked the video and I didn't see a place where you switched from FM to AM... I would assume the radio is trying to get FM as a result.
Thanks for the information, had a question, can the radio scan your saved frequencies or do you just have to scan them one at a time? I guess like some airports have tower, arrival, and departure frequencies can the radio scan them all or can you only listen to one at a time?
If you have buisness near an airport. just call the tower and consult with them. there is a lot possible if they know who you are and what youre intentions are. it is apriciated that they can reach u on the radio.
I register my drone to the FAA, ihave a small UAS certificate of registration from the FCC, do i need to listen also or not ? thank you its a good blog ..thank u sir

Your video was just what I was looking for. It has such great info on it. Thank you for making it. Don

In an emergency anyone can transmit.
You don't need a license to transmit on aviation band.
Up in Canada you need one
@@shrimpshrubbery7664 in the USA you sure do need a license...
Can u call cq on that radio or no

Thank you! Your take on unboxing videos earned you a sub from me.
I have a FTA 550 myself and was wondering how to access the inserted Lat and Long coordinates from the radio, thank you and great video
Glad I could help
@@MeOnTech Just wondering, is there a way to see those lat long coordinates without accessing the settings?
Thanks
Thanks for the video, i found it very useful here in the UK.
If you live in a busy air traffic area, this would work great!
@@MeOnTech should i get my ham license or not sir

I simply don't understand why u need these for a drone pilot, surely your not anywhere near air traffic anyway

Menu and the powerbutton. That is what i needed to know. Thanx
Glad it helped

its a great radio.
Sureky that sounds like he's flying in restricted airspace, drones are generally not allowed in airfields airspace
I really wanted to hear what it sounded like. So far no one on UA-cam has put it to receive. Is there a reason for that?
Thanks, very helpful!

I found it hard to get a HT to receive air-band. Let know if you find a good one.

The Yaesu FTA-550 is only for airband. It is not a normal dual band HT like we normally use in Amateur radio. There is no options to switch to FM.
Thank you.
What is the receiver maximum RF power input?

Aa a Part 107 Drone Pilots do not call the airport I just use LAANC.

You do not have to but I would suggest it
Recommended but not required.
Thumbs up for not unboxing 👍
Thanks 👍

Yeasu makes the AR DV
Half way into the video and you're still repeating what you are going to show in the video..
