Thanks for the review on the SX260. My SX210 died this weekend (the lens is jammed) and I need to replace it. I think the 260 will be that replacement....

does this camera auto focus when recording a video?
I just bought this camera, and for a "point and shoot" it is probably the best of the Best in the genre. If you are looking for it to be as good as a Canon T2i, T3i, etc., it won't compete. But if you want a compact camera that takes 1080p video, and high quality photos, you will not get any better. I have tried Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, and Fuji, all at higher megapixels, and the sx260 beats them all.

Both cameras are highly competent and well regarded units. U cannot go wrong with either. Both are 12MP, similarly priced and are highly customisable. Essentially the key difference between the two is this: The S100 has a slightly larger sensor and a much brighter lens enabling better overall image quality particularly in low light without flash. However it has only 5X optical zoom. The SX260HS key selling point is its 20X optical zoom that is contained within a genuinely pocketable package.
This is a tech company, not a phone/computer company. So really they report on all tech. Which is good for the consumer market. I was actually looking to get a camera. This one is a candidate!

I think I can answer that it part. Basically, features like auto-focus/image stabilization just don't work well when you zoom all the way, so you'll just have to cut back on your use of zoom to get a sharp picture. If you only want a certain segment of the picture, you can use an imaging editing program to crop the image to just the part you want.

bought this camera 2 weeks ago, but i keep having trouble with sharpeness in full zoom? when i try to either take a picture or shoot a film, and i zoom in fully its blurry and i can't get it sharp. any tips?

If you need zoom, go for sx240/260, s100 has slightly better image quality, lower apeture, HDR mode but 5x zoom i think

f3.1 to f3.5 is only slightly more than 1/3 of a stop, not 1 full stop. But nice camera, with good looking JPEGs (too bad no RAW). Well done review as usual.

I know, it wasn't meant to be a negative comment actually. It was supposed to be a positive one. (As in I still watch the videos because they are entertaining, even though im not interested in said product.) Guess I should have worded it a little better :)

Just bought black Canon powershot SX260. Don't get me wrong: I like it. A lot. But for the price, unless you need a compact camera that fits in a pants pocket you may be better off with a DSLR like a used Canon Rebel etc. The battery will last longer and DSLR has other advantages over a compact. This SX260 camera is comparable in image quality to my Canon G10, a large compact. But G10 has larger battery that lasts a long time; longer than SX260 . Lastly the SX260 GPS is nice but I turned it off

it's suppose to be a red color but why does it look pink? the Fujifilm finepix f770 is a much better red.

I should've listened to you and get the Canon Powershot SX260HS, I got the Panasonic Lumix ZS-19 which is similar to this albeit a slightly higher end model, has on par performance but the problem is poor low light performance. Basically, all my photos taken in low light situations are unusable. Really miss ya Mike and thanks for the reviews! Fortunately, got a SX260HS on clearence, indeed a dramatic difference, though now I have two cameras for a hair over $400.
i got this camera as end of line clearance for.. £59. I kid you not hehe. Works stunningly well ;)

Hey Mike.....I am in the market for an excellent point & shoot digi camera with a high optical zoom, excellent quality photos in both low & high light shooting, so it should have a great flash. I also want to be able to make shot after shot kinda fast, and not have to do too many adjustments. I will not be doing much videos, but lots of photos. I want to take nature shots & my kids playing soccer w/o blurred photos, What can you suggest????
