THIS Was My Most STUPID MISTAKE

  • My most silly mistake as a new pilot ended up getting us stranded, and this was my brothers first flight in a light aircraft. AND he is petrified of flying.. So lots going on here, enjoy!
    We all make mistakes, some more easily avoided than other but when it comes to flying light aircraft planes, it's important to do all you can to mitigate what you can, I did a very bad job of doing that here. Every day is a school day though so I've learned my lesson!

    Love that after putting him through that you topped it off with a sucker punch at 12:06 😂
    We are all human mate, mistakes will be be but we have to learn from them. Awesome video brother.

    Similar happened to me on my first cross country solo to Headcorn. I parked the plane but by the time I had paid the landing fee and went back to the plane the wheels had sunk enough so it wouldn't move.

      Oh god, and on a solo!! That sounds more stressful than our situation.. hope it was resolved easy enough!! Happy flying chap

    You guys are allowed to fly near/in clouds without being on an IFR flight plan ? Also , I suggest you taxi on the grass like that with the yoke pulled all the way to your chest to keep as much weight off the nose wheel as possible. You should’ve learned that for Soft field ops

    • @RoutesAbove
      @RoutesAbove  7 місяців тому +1

      As long as you are in sight of the ground (unless above 3000ft agl) you are VFR, which I made sure we were 😊. Yeah I did pull right back if you watch when we first went on the grass. Maybe I could have a bit more but yeah. Appreciate the comment Gary, happy flying!

      @@RoutesAboveThat’s crazy. In the US, VFR flights have to stay clear of clouds 500’ below, 1000’ above and 2000 ‘ Horizontal distance from clouds. Yeah , pull that yoke back as far as it will go and keep moving.

    woww u got lot of crazy busy airspace 1:22 to deal with ?
    where in England are u ? Where is London from you ? (to get bearing perspective)

    • @RoutesAbove
      @RoutesAbove  4 місяці тому +1

      It looks worse than it is, that chart is showing all airspace up to 10,000ft. The route we went took little work to navigate as it’s mostly all free airspace. I’m based out of Kemble 😊

    so do u ever land on official grass strips anywhere there in England? must be alot of them ?
    not so much where I'm at in northeast US.. all mostly hard rw busy small med size airports.

    • @RoutesAbove
      @RoutesAbove  4 місяці тому +2

      Yeah! I really like them, I land at a few of them in my videos on the channel, have a look and let me know what you think :)

    I nearly got stuck at Shobdon the other week. The grass parking can get really soppy. Luckily I was quite light.

    • @RoutesAbove
      @RoutesAbove  7 місяців тому

      Yeah I can imagine.. Some lighter aircraft were parking on the grass after we left and had no issues for the same reason. Microlights for the win I guess haha! Happy flying Simon!
