Thank you for great information! My Dad was a drywaller his whole life. So I became a drywaller for my first 4 years then I started building houses. For the last 8 years my son and I now just do custom bathrooms . We do all are own drywall work and have never updated my brain beyond an old pole sander and hand sanding. Thanks to you I will now learn how to use these newer systems!
We have the new hilti drywall sander and vacuum combo, we absolutely love it. The head is very flexible which helps big time when it comes to not digging or gouging the nice mud work. We also use the dust deputy, helps huge on not filling up the vacuum.! Nice video!

Thanks for the great video. I am about to start a UA-cam channel (gaming stuff totally seperate) and was planning on using links, you say UA-cam penalises your channel, but then show click able links anyway? I was just wondering if you could clarify as I didn't want to get into trouble on my first video, but you have click able links despite saying so I was not sure! 😄
Thanks for your efforts on your videos, very helpful… I like to look for the natural airflow and sand going downwind (keeping myself out of the dust cloud as much as possible) also using a fan to help the airflow away and out a window/doorway. I also like to sand downward to push the dust down to the floor. These scenarios are on small drywall jobs/repairs not large new construction, as the vacuum sander would be used.
When I changed the ceilings in my house to drywall and as much as I hate the sanding I rented power sander (Flex giraffe). It made the sanding very fast and easy but I never really mastered the speed and pressure with that thing. Most of the seams where there were thinned edge drywall, were ground low and be visible when looked closely.
That funky triangle sander is the best thing to happen to drywall finishing,(in my opinion) I’ve been finishing over 40 years,I hated sanding,started using the triangle sander,and I don’t mind sanding anymore,I use mine on a extension pole extended to around 7 feet long,the leverage it gives me on ceilings is unrivaled flats,butts,screws,angles all look better when I’m finished with 220 grit,didn’t think it was possible but my work looks better since I discovered this sander.

I know they’re a lot of money, but the Mirka Leros is an absolute awesome piece of kit. By far the absolute best drywall sander on the market and as far as I know, it’s the only one that is a random orbit sander. You should definitely give one a try and do a review for your subscribers. I feel bad for the people who spend more money on the festool planex and still have to kill their shoulders on ceilings.
I’m about to do a Reno on a family member’s house, any recommendations on removing textured plaster? They’d like a dry wall finish, and I’m trying not to have to throw up new drywall throughout due to cost $$$. If it can be power sanded, I’d love that!
Have you had any issues when using a power sander where the sander doesn't seem to be taking off any more material but appears to be "polishing" the dried mud? The abrasive on the disk seems to be good yet, but material is not being removed. It just gets shiney. I've experienced this when using green bucket mud, which I prefer for hardness, so had to switch to Plus 3.
Green label all purpose it harder so it can be more difficult to sand, but it always sands for me, just slower. I skim coated a ceiling with hot mud once and it was like you described. never again, lol
Another great video! Very practical. I’ve been so busy at work that haven’t had a chance to tackle my whole house ugly knock down texture to level 5. I’m looking forward to your sanding video/guide. Question: for the first sanding on painted knock down texture, can I use the Wen. I’m also going to buy one of those dust trapping things that you have. (Just trying to limit the dust since we will be living in the home). Thanks.
The problem with using a rotary sander on painted surfaces is that it will load up really fast. The only way I found around that is to use 24 grit disc which I do offer one at a time on my website. etsy.me/3dxrMRK
But note that any grit can load up. When sanding paint, don't stay in one spot to long, using light pressure, and the coarser the grit the less it loads up. I have a video coming out soon about this.
I am skim coating around some window seals and there is some old caulking in the corners and around the metal window frame do I need to remove all the old caulking or can I skim coat over the caulk with the mud?
The round one leaves less outer edge lines, but otherwise they’ll do pretty much the same if you use sandpaper. Sanding screen leaves a lot of lines. I bought a cheap one from Northern Tool, about $200. Works great. Better then by hand
Thanks for your efforts on your videos, very helpful… I like to look for the natural airflow and sand going downwind (keeping myself out of the dust cloud as much as possible) also using a fan to help the airflow away and out a window/doorway. I also like to sand downward to push the dust down to the floor. These scenarios are on small drywall jobs/repairs not large new construction, as the vacuum sander would be used.
When I changed the ceilings in my house to drywall and as much as I hate the sanding I rented power sander (Flex giraffe). It made the sanding very fast and easy but I never really mastered the speed and pressure with that thing. Most of the seams where there were thinned edge drywall, were ground low and be visible when looked closely.
That funky triangle sander is the best thing to happen to drywall finishing,(in my opinion) I’ve been finishing over 40 years,I hated sanding,started using the triangle sander,and I don’t mind sanding anymore,I use mine on a extension pole extended to around 7 feet long,the leverage it gives me on ceilings is unrivaled flats,butts,screws,angles all look better when I’m finished with 220 grit,didn’t think it was possible but my work looks better since I discovered this sander.

I sand with a few alt cordless. And corners with a plastic square. And sponge inside corners.
I know they’re a lot of money, but the Mirka Leros is an absolute awesome piece of kit. By far the absolute best drywall sander on the market and as far as I know, it’s the only one that is a random orbit sander. You should definitely give one a try and do a review for your subscribers. I feel bad for the people who spend more money on the festool planex and still have to kill their shoulders on ceilings.
If they'll send me one, I will. I'm only full time UA-cam these days and just barely get by so no extra to buy tools just for a review, yet.

I’m about to do a Reno on a family member’s house, any recommendations on removing textured plaster? They’d like a dry wall finish, and I’m trying not to have to throw up new drywall throughout due to cost $$$. If it can be power sanded, I’d love that!

I have one and there is nothing like it. Dustless ks only half of it. The vacuum takes the weight of the tool too making it effortless sanding.
Have you had any issues when using a power sander where the sander doesn't seem to be taking off any more material but appears to be "polishing" the dried mud?
The abrasive on the disk seems to be good yet, but material is not being removed. It just gets shiney. I've experienced this when using green bucket mud, which I prefer for hardness, so had to switch to Plus 3.
Green label all purpose it harder so it can be more difficult to sand, but it always sands for me, just slower. I skim coated a ceiling with hot mud once and it was like you described. never again, lol

Another great video! Very practical. I’ve been so busy at work that haven’t had a chance to tackle my whole house ugly knock down texture to level 5. I’m looking forward to your sanding video/guide. Question: for the first sanding on painted knock down texture, can I use the Wen. I’m also going to buy one of those dust trapping things that you have. (Just trying to limit the dust since we will be living in the home). Thanks.
The problem with using a rotary sander on painted surfaces is that it will load up really fast. The only way I found around that is to use 24 grit disc which I do offer one at a time on my website. etsy.me/3dxrMRK

@@msdinba clog up the pores with sticky paint and make the disk not work
But note that any grit can load up. When sanding paint, don't stay in one spot to long, using light pressure, and the coarser the grit the less it loads up. I have a video coming out soon about this.
Are you using the WEN 5.0 amp or 6.3? I see you can get them with round and triangle heads.

I am skim coating around some window seals and there is some old caulking in the corners and around the metal window frame do I need to remove all the old caulking or can I skim coat over the caulk with the mud?
I’d hold short of the caulk and leave it in place

Which one leaves less sanding marks
The round one leaves less outer edge lines, but otherwise they’ll do pretty much the same if you use sandpaper. Sanding screen leaves a lot of lines.
