Being a Productspecialist at Volvo over here in Germany, I can honestly say this is the best review of a modern day Volvo on YT. All the good and bad things were mentioned and there is a lot of important information that is better communicated from Topher than from the manufacturer itself. Also love all the POV, because of the great variation from dream cars to vintage cars to daily drivers. Keep it up!

New owner of an XC60 T8 Recharge Plus here. I love the car and took the time to post my response to this video with our experience so far. If you are a product specialist at Volvo who can influence technical sales documentation and training, I would highly suggest having solid technical details available for sales reps and customers who are shopping for these kinds of vehicles.
I am an electrical engineer who drives a Tesla daily, so am an early adopter, and quite familiar with electric vehicle considerations. When I was trying to get details about the XC60 Recharge, my sales rep and his service staff didn't have many answers, and provided some incorrect ones in response to some of my inquiries. To be fair, I am much more familiar with electrical considerations than most customers when it comes to vehicle charging requirements, charging capacity, wall plug compatibility, etc.
I am happy to elaborate if it would be helpful. The Volvo vehicles seem amazing (this is our first one), and I would hate for Volvo to lose sales due to customers not getting good and correct information about how to get the most out of their vehicle.

@Edysin Simon Don't be concerend about quality or anything surrounding the car because of the Geely Ownership. Basically the only thing they do is pay for the "freedom" so Volvo and Polestar can do what they did envision. Polestar is getting a new factory in South Carolina where the S60 is already being built aswell as the new XC90. Depending on the Volvo Model only are small number of cars is build in China

@@jamesi1338 Thank you very much for the response and I am happy to hear you love the car, espacially it being the first Volvo for you. I wish you a fun and safe drive.
Indeed technical knowledge is getting a bit short with the salesmen and women, in todays sales trainings it is not a huge topic. Volvo is changing this with the new job description of a productspecialist to give you someone right beside you with all the knowledge and experience without the direct need of selling the car to you due to commission or anything money related. First is customer experience and you starting to love and understand the car... the rest comes on its own. Brå aktur as they say in Sweden

A Tesla M3 Owner Review of the XC60.
We have a 2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range that I have driven 56,469 miles during last 4 years. I absolutely love the Tesla, and it was a really hard decision to not go for another one when it was time to trade in my wife's 2011 GTI. As this is her car, and she still has range anxiety, we decided to take the plunge on this XC60.
WOW, absolutely love it. We ordered in March, and had to wait until August to take delivery of our 2023 XC60 T8 Recharge Plus. Your review is spot on. We promptly took it out for a 2000 mile, week long road trip from Minneapolis to the Black Hills and surrounding sites. The only inaccuracy I noticed was that you absolutely can choose the gear for the transmission by rocking the shifter left and right. This came in handy with the long uphill climbs in the mountains. As a flat-lander from Minnesota, it was really nice to be able to use the regenerative breaking on steep declines without having to downshift or ride the brakes. This is a great use case for anyone enjoying spirited mountain driving.
As for the lane keep assist, it compares pretty well against the basic Autopilot included on all Tesla's without Enhanced Autopilot or Full Self Driving. Lane changes with LKA enabled do not disable the system, which is great. While enabled, just signal your lane change and it gently blips the throttle automatically as you shift over. It then re-engages auto-steer as you center on your new lane seamlessly. Quite natural, and much less annoying than the Tesla that just plain disables auto-steer and bing-bongs at you when you start changing lanes, forcing you to re-enable when in the new lane, again bong-binging. For me, the Autopilot system on the Tesla still inspires more confidence, which helps reduce fatigue on long drives. To be fair, I have about 40000 miles on autopilot under my belt, so my confidence in it over the Volvo could just be my familiarity with the system.
My only concern with getting a PHEV is long term reliability. The two drive-trains adds to complexity compared to a fully electric, but the added range and flexibility for road trips offsets that to a significant degree. We take some winter vacations up in Northern MN, and -30 degree weather can be brutal on BEV range, even if starting a BEV in extreme cold is a non-issue. Looking forward to seeing how the Volvo handles winter!
Overall, the XC60 has been a fantastic choice for our needs while we wait for the charging network in our vast country to catch up to the needs of fully electric vehicles.

I have a Silver dawn 2022+ E.R. Polestar Engineered. 5 months ago I went in for an Extended Range, R-model, & got this, E.R. Polestar Engineered instead. Traded in a loaded 2020 inscription T8. 👍 My first issue was, I wanted the drive mode switch back down on that wheel, ... But now I've gotten very proficient at switching drive modes on screen, & they tell me a on screen shortcut button is in the works, via an Over the Air Update in the future. (We'll See) ... The lack of Car-Play Was a disappointment, At That Time. But Now, its Finally Here, & I think the Car Play is Better than my 2020 T8's C.P. (its Full Screen Now) & The Android system lets me choose which Map system to use, Apple map, or Google map. Now, what the dealer Didn't explained to me was how to change my the Olhins Dampers. After Reading the Manual..."Duh"...I figured it out. After a few trials, my Fav setting is #15. Settings are 1-23. As for My EV RANGE... Now in Summer with A/C On & driving around town staying under 50Mph. My Pure EV Range has been Constantly 37-38 miles. ... Now with A/C OFF & windows down, I get 40-41 Pure EV Range. (2 people in Car) ... So My verdict: "LOVE IT & ER Battery ! " ... Great Phev 😍 & Sound System = WoW!
Oh, FYI: As for the Charge Times, Almost Double Range, Also Means Almost Double Charge times. 🤪 🤷‍♀ ( Like U said, Not the fastest Charging times.)

We just took our xc40 recharge on a 2400 mile road trip. It performed perfectly. We do need a bit more room for our giant dogs (Great Dane and Rottweiler) so I’ll be watching for Volvo to make the larger models fully electric soon. It’s more of a mental adjustment than anything else. I just like to push back on the sentiment that over 220 miles of range isn’t enough when you even point out that the 30 mile electric range is enough for you a lot of the time.

If you like this car, also try out the Lexus NX450h+ plug-in. Shares the RAV4 Prime powertrain but with the added quality and refinement found in a Lexus. Heard some early issues, but they seem to be resolved now. T6s are supposedly a PITA to work with, having all that kit in a rather small engine bay, so that might be a consideration if you plan on DIY. Otherwise, haven't heard any other major powertrain complaints of note.

Volvo definitely has the right idea for their global platform: class-leading design and quality, so that updates can be minimal and value can be maintained even after a long refresh cycle. Keeps things simple for mechanics (at least for the learning curve,) and likewise can still stay attractive when compared to newer models. I think the S90 could go for ten years at least without a refresh, a Swedish XJ of its time for sure.
