Make the government schools better. Make them teach in a way that makes the student realize that creativity is very essential in life not only in getting a degree. Make it required in all schools in India to teach how to be more creative. This will make India develop even more quickly since then more people will use their creative brains to make India a developed country.

I want to call out one thing that is great for India. Oil. Yes, oil is one of the restrictions on Indian manufacturing at large scale. For the last 20 years, both US and China have been systematic in preventing large amount of oil flowing into India. US has been laying down numerous sanction restriction for India to get access oil from Iran. And China has been buying out any oil from the global market and singing out all sorts of future oil deals. As result, India has a hard time transforming itself into a domestic manufacturing powerhouse (let's don't get carry away and spin that India has a foothold in global manufacturing yet ... it is not.)
But since the Russia Ukraine crisis, India is suddenly exposed to a large quantity of crude oil in cheap price. India quickly gets hold of this win fall and has been using it for pushing its domestic manufacturing forward, and also even improves its crude oil processing plants for international export. This improvement on infrastructure will have huge impact down the road, allowing India to process large amount of crude for manufacturing purpose.

You said it right. But remember, Ukraine war will end one day and the era of cheap oil for India will be over. Unless India switches to more renewable energy sources, like wind, solar, hydro, nuclear etc., her dependence on oil and coal (which is still required to generate electricity for electric vehicles) will be humongous for a burgeoning population, which us projected to surpass China soon. India currently has the largest young population, but 30 years from now India will have world’s largest old population, which will require healthcare, which has been hijacked by the private sector.

Agriculture as a sector and other basic necessities is affordable/cheap here
But when you step into luxury or maybe somewhat imported stuff who aren't indigenous
For e.g. an iPhone the price here is easy 30-40% higher than what you get in USA or Dubai
Apple started manufacturing in India and the sales from here are skyrocketing for apple so maybe the gap will go down in a few years
When it comes to stuff like college fees and earnings people get here the ratio is so tight, the placement packages are less than what they have to pay as a tuition fees
Other car brands etc... It is cheaper in usa and brands like Range Rover are unbelievably expensive here compared to west
Basically just like in USA if the banana cost you pay is for logistics n high demand low availability and the banana we pay for is high demand and very high availability, it's bound to be cheaper

I am a proud Indian. But when 810 million people, about 67% of the population depends on government charity to avoid hunger, it doesn't provide a very rosy picture for near future. Free food, free housing, free electricity (in some states) etc has turned two thirds of the population lazy, lethargic and amoral. 70 percent of the working population is employed in agriculture which contributes barely 15% to the GDP. This is putting enormous pressure on the real contributors to the economy. The extravagant populist and socialist government schemes are sucking up all the growth achieved by the industrial and service sectors, giving too much lethargy to the economy.

There are some caveats. Not all of the "poor" people are actually poor. They just go for the freebies. For example, govt boasts that they are providing food rations to lots of poor people. But in reality, these poor people sell that sub standard food in open market, and buy expensive good food in shops. And then there are people I know, who claim as 'poor' people and receive rations, sitting in their 25 lakh house, and having 3 Cr farms.

@@sanaksanandan It is the local governments' duty to select the proper beneficiaries. But they don't do it as more number of beneficiaries create a vote bank for the local politicians. The local leaders put pressure on the survey people to include the names of their own supporters and in many cases leave out the opposition supporters. This fails many central government uplifting schemes in states where NDA is not in power. Some political parties indulge in vicious retribution politics at the panchayat/ward level. But that doesn't falcify Modi's claim to be feeding 80 crore people freely. It is upto the states what they are doing with the free ration. India's federal structure do not allow the centre to closely monitor the real distribution events. It is done by the State Government machinery and if what you are saying is true, why noone is asking questions of them? It has become a fashion to question Modi on everything when the responsibility clearly lies somewhere else. I remember the covid medical emergency where every Tom Dick and Harry were blaming the centre, whereas Health is a State subject too. Your local government clinics, doctors, nurses, hospitals and all of the health infrastructure is completely run by the State Government, but in every small to large emergency they are always found lacking to manage properly. They are very quick to pass the blame to the center.
Now that the Wuhan Virus is slated to make a comeback, why no media outlets, journalists, couch experts are asking each and every state governments if they are ready with the requisite/enough Oxygen concentrator plants in their jurisdiction? Or they are waiting for the crisis to happen and people die so that they can blame Modi and score political browny point? Why don't they give up the whole health machinery to the control of the centre if they know they are incompetent (like Kejriwal during the pandemic) and transfer the health infrastructure to the center early enough so that people wouldn't suffer?

Once this gets us to "upper middle income economy" status, that is the time when Indian investment in R&D will explode. Till then, it will stay limited to some organizations like government Defence, Space and Nuclear research institutes or some foreign corporations opening R&D centers in India. Private sector (except a handful of startups like QuNu Labs) does not have an R&D appetite yet.

It is nothing but total GPD/Population, all it has to do is to increase faster than population, which is easily the case. Moreover, comparing GDP per capita does not make total sense...if you can get burger decent meal in India for 100rs and similarly in US that meal costs 40$, then even if the US per capita income is higher, the standard of living is the same. US and Europe also have a huge amount of poor people...these are just statistics...the average middle/upper/elite classes in India and other countries live a similar standard....India's issue is the large population out of which a large chunk is still stuck in poverty and cannot rise easily to middle class, bcoz of horrible policies and lack of education by previous govts...that will take some time to change,,,but as the next generation of them are educated properly...the financial situation will change very drastically.

Therefore, it's not time to celebrate for think tank's prediction, it's time for the Indian government to put food where its mouth is. The current Indian growth is very nominal and will remain that way in 2023. Manufacturing is almost 23 % down, foreign investment is very low, agriculture is hit, and the service sector is on a slippery slope. India has been on its way to the top long before Russia became a major oil supplier to India and will remain so long after Russia has ceased to be a major oil supplier to India. Last year, India beat UK to become the world's 5th largest economy. Rising 4-5 ranks in the top 10 economies ranking within just last 10 years. This happened despite Russia being a mere 24th largest supplier of oil to India. Let that number sink in to your numb skull: 24th.

It's great news, but if the population of India hits 2 billion by that time, it won't make much difference. Reduce the population while increasing the GDP.

It’s interesting that Russia Ukraine war has pushed back the timeline, wonder how much more it could be affected if the war escalates. India could have been way ahead already if not for its foreign policy, in this respect China has been very smart acting friendly to west business and attracting foreign investment.
