andor's spying is less bond, more bourne. "slow burn" is the best description for this show. and that matches how rogue one built up to the exciting, if predictable, finish.
The world building is so good. It feels so lived in. I don't mind the slow build, some of my absolute favorite series took the time to build like this and it was absolutely worth it.
Who said episode 1 was so so? Honestly, this is EXACTLY the type of Star Wars story Ive been waiting for. Something a little less fantastical and a little more grounded in 'realism' ("realism", not reality*). I want to see the rebellion from the perspective of those who are, or were once, 'regular people'. I want to see those who operate in the ethically 'grey area', those who have to get their hands bloody 'for the cause'. I want to see back room political machinations, I want to see spy stuff, I want to see real stakes - where the Empire is a real threat and not just not cannon fodder for the heroes. Episode 1 had AMAZING writing, setting up really interesting and BELIEVABLE characters, and a 'realistic' situation for one such as Andor. This, I hope, will be a really great show
11:00 The first three episodes aren't actually meant to be watched and analyzed independently. It's basically a movie that just happens to be edited into three segments.
The plot so far is Cassian looking for his sister. The only good lead the cops have on him is the ship. That must be why we have a scene with him wiping the flight log. They're gonna find the ship and be suspicious that it has a completely clean log.
I think all the criticisms they make of the first episode fully make sense by about halfway through the series, once it becomes clear what it’s doing. The show is a slow burn that tells a brilliant and interesting story, but it demands patience. Not to go all “you really have to have a high IQ to appreciate Andor” but as a friend of mine said it “makes the other Star Wars shows look like Saturday morning cartoons”. Also interesting how they were suggesting the first three-episode arc be 90 minutes. If they did the whole season that way they’re essentially making a new trilogy of sw films at that point. Maybe streaming tv is just mutating into films now, just minus the cinema. Agree it would be hard to stay engaged if it had come one episode a week. The three at once model works well, I think.
I first watched your guys' reaction months ago. I just finished watching a reacter who would struggle to understand Cat in the Hat, I had to come back here to cleanse the palate. Appreciate you two!
Less spy and more thief at this point. At this point I've seen every episode, more than once, so it is weird to look back and think of how it started. But yeah, the bad guy isn't the Emperor, or Vader, it's a guy doing his job diligently and with delusions of grandeur about how competent he is. Banality of evil, not LE or CE, but LN.
"Yeah we'll just buy a house in Toronto" F*ck Toronto. Go for Oshawa, Port Perry or Peterborough. You'll get 2 or 3x the house for the money, and still be within an hour or two's drive of the city (rushhour notwithstanding)
For me Episode 1-3 was a longer premiere episode that they cut up to 3 episodes to have more episodes otherwise it would be a 10 episode season. Lot's of great world building here and it is slice of life to get us living in the Star Wars universe. They honestly should have just had the longer premiere for one week. I mean we got it with the 3 that they dropped but the episode ends are weird and don't feel natural. Like your outfit Clarus. Wondering what the warning label reads... I do love how the Chief Inspector calls out exactly what happened, but yeah Syril is gonna try and solve this. I like the conversation with the underlings as well. Bix is hot and B2 is great.
Since he stutters and looks like he's been through the mill - things have already happened to B2EMO (be too emotional). Amazing how much character you can get out of what looks like a red four-wheeled garbage can. I'm thinking his ancestors were in The Black Hole.
The pacing of this show is the only serious criticism I have. I would have lost all patience watching this weekly, but as a binge it is excellent. Episodes 1-3 are clearly meant to be viewed together. as are 4-6, and 8-10
Hi guys luv ur channel, its dope!! Anyway i like the show, not loving though, well so far, u definitely know more then i do...i am only watching this show for one reason though, the star is comin, the little Dude, scene stealer...Babu! Babu Frik! oh yeah!! by the way C u look beautiful in the outfit. I also live in Ireland so i always have this attraction to red heads, sorry bro, bit over stepping...u guys are great! I just hope this shows gets more interesting and a quicker pace!
Better acting, characterization and world building is one thing, but the major thing is you feel that this is building towards something. Rings of Powers seems like it's building towards 5 totally different things that has nothing to do with each other, so why do we even care?
10:25 no plot yet. Exactly. Just finished watching Episode 1. Started off okay, but as it went on I just felt more and more bland because there's just not enough development in the middle and end for me to want to follow for a whole season.
@@ryadinstormblessed8308 I mean, I was hooked just from the first 5 minutes. But regardless, that’s precisely why they released the whole first arc at once. Just think of it as watching a movie in three parts, rather than three episode of a show.
@@Jabberwocky415 I don't doubt it has its audience who find it interesting. Just not really for everyone. The first 5 minutes was pretty good. But from there it just got less and less interesting to me. To each their own.

Episode 1 opening with Cassian in the street and brothel feels very Blade Runneresque.

"If something happen to B2, I riot". Funny, that's exactly what happened for the Ferrix people eleven episodes later.
first 10 minutes he gushes more than most commenters in the whole series
I just see the 3 episodes as a 3 act premiere.
5:30 "If anything happens to B2 I will riot." 😮
5:29 "If anything happens to B2 I'm out... I will riot."
Well...
i wouldnt say hes incompetent(security guy) . . just overzelously competent with zero experience

Just recently found your channel. Really enjoying the thoughtful commentary and how you reserve judgement until you see how it develops

Just binged your sandman reaction and now starting andor, you guys have become some of my favorite reactors in an instant
Thanks, Nerdy! Thanks, Clarus! 🌠 #NerdyNightly #StarWars #Andor #DisneyPlus

Well, I am here for your specific reactions...and I just began the series now...a batman (Adam west) persaonation is 💯 appropriate!

Ok, this episode worked whereas the first Rings of Power didn't. Why?
Better acting, characterization and world building is one thing, but the major thing is you feel that this is building towards something. Rings of Powers seems like it's building towards 5 totally different things that has nothing to do with each other, so why do we even care?
Both worked for me.

Episode 1 is just 1/3 of the first story. It obviously isn’t gonna have a bunch of development.
@@Jabberwocky415 yeah, that's not how series pilots work. You have to give people a reason to care about what happens next.
