Great video on Burghley House. I was there in 2017 on my first visit to the UK. My 10x great grandmother, Diana (Skipwith) Dale, came to America after 1650 with her brother Sir Grey Skipwith, 3rd Bt. of Prestwold, Leics. They were raised at Prestwold Hall about an hour from Burghley and their great grandmother, Margaret (Cecil) Cave, was a sister of William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley, who built Burghley House. Lord Burghley’s mother, Lady Jane Cecil, died at Burghley in 1588 and was my 14x great grandmother.

I have just discovered your channel today and I am glad I did it. Burghley House is one of the most beautiful and important British stately homes when considering the quality and richness of its art collections, and that includes its magnificent furniture and silver that many people ignore because of the emphasis put on the paintings.
I would like to point out some pictures I recognised and some beautiful objects:
5.20 = Portrait of Henry, 10th Earl and 1st Marquess of Exeter (1754-1804), his wife and daughter by Sir Thomas Lawrence.
13.00 = Beautiful cabinet, most probably French.
14.05 = St. John the Baptist by the studio Andrea del Sarto; in my opinion it is as beautiful as the original in the Uffizi Gallery.
17.20 = Magnificent and massive wine cooler in solid silver.

Yikes, They tried to make their palace into a renaissance Sistine chapel. Too many paintings. It becomes a Gallimaufry. No doubt there are exquisite priceless things adorning the house it’s just present as gilded a lily.
