Great job Paul, I love the music Rebecca and Megan create. The love they have for their family is evident by the emotion in their performance of this song. I have been very fortunate to hear them play mad as a hatter live. Larkin Poe is a must see band!
Love your review here. Thoughtful, analytical and really into the music and its depth both in performance and lyrics. I like how you saw the two sides mandolin vs slide guitar when they fronted each other, I did not pick up that myself but you made me think. I give you 9 out of 10 for that review 😎
Great reaction and analysis. I'm kind of obsessed with Megan's lap steel playing. They were nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album for their latest ” Venom and Faith". For more Larkin Poe I'd suggest "Bleach Blond Bottle Blues" or "Mississippi". "Banks of Allatoona" is another good one.
The most outstanding and unique feature of this group (apart from their obvious musical talent) is the use of the lap steel...Larkin Poe "Aint Gonna Cry" is worth a listen.. It's quite different to the two songs you have reviewed...Also their Dylan cover of New Pony is way better than the original..shows some real vibe in their musical ability . And if you want a good commercial song of theirs to listen to then 'Beach blonde bottle blues' is also great.. I look forward to more of your reviews as you get put under the Larkin Poe spell...
The Larkin Poe cover of Dylan's New Pony is an absolutely monstrous display of nuance, intricacy and subtle use of expressive qualities (both vocally and instrumentally) that are little known in the world of popular music. Interestingly, they have never recorded this, and it is only available in live performances. This video is, unlike many LP videos, a completely professional presentation, with multiple angle shots and excellent sound. Genius may not be hyperbolic in this rendition. ua-cam.com/video/1WLt5VpvzPo/v-deo.html
Love their blues and boogie, but this song gives me chills every time. Another great blues riff band to watch is Blues Pills, which is more Janis Joplin to Larkin Poe's Howling Wolf Muddy Waters : )
Hey Paul, you mentioned liking songs with deep subject matter. I'm wondering if you've ever listen to Farmer's Daughter by Crystal Bowersox. This is a very personal song that she wrote about child abuse that she experienced as a child from the hands of her own mother. At the time she recorded it she and her mother were estranged, but since then they have made up and she now no longer will perform the song at her live shows. Anyway check it out if you're not familiar with it. It's a fabulous song about a very serious and disturbing subject matter.
@@CrowboroughGuitarTuition Crystal was the runner-up on season 9 of American Idol. In my estimation she has the best voice of anyone who's ever been on Idol. Yes, better than Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson.
❤i picked the roses ❤❤❤

Ain't Gonna Cry is amazing. Another of my favorites is "Look Away" - her vocalizations are haunting and will stick in your head.

Sounds really interesting. I'm not familiar with her or the song so will look into it.

They just made a better version with more slide guitar.
You could not make out the lyrics? Yes it is great. Song is best with the mandolin. Only song they do with this sound.
It's the American accent that gave him trouble. The automatic captioning also can't do it.
