    Excellent video. I have show box after shoe box of 2 1/2" blocks. One of these days, they will become a checkerboard. My pie for PI day will be apple - - if my son comes over to peel the apples. Since he was a young boy the promise in this household has been "anytime I find peeled apples, I will make a pie". I haven't gone back on this promise - many a Sunday morning, I awoke to a nice bowl of peeled apples. As an adult, he continues to peel the apples!

    Pat, that's a great idea you have about the checkerboards. If you're already sewing, you might as well work on two quilts at a time. Have a good weekend.

    Toward the end of the video, doing the strips of 6 makes it able to make them all the same, start with a dark, end with a light. Then you just flip every other one to get the checkerboard.

    I like all your checkerboards but really like the multi-colored one. And the "twosies" :) I laughed when you said that as I first heard that on Fons & Porter-Marianne was with her daughter on that episode & were talking about "twosies" & "foursies"!! My now 11 yr old granddaughter wanted to learn to sew when she was 7, I got out random blocks I'd got on Ebay years ago & we started with twosies of course. Then I asked her if she wanted to sew them into foursies!! And so it went :)

    Your checkerboard method is interesting. I have been sewing twos, then combining them into fours, eights, etc. Making one long chain of squares, alternating with light and dark start and stops before sewing the rows together so I can press them all to the dark before piecing two rows together. I sewed rows of 20 squares to make a 40x40 baby size checkerboard quilt in pink/white-ish. Working on one in blues now that I hope will be big enough for a lap or twin size quilt. Love your idea on storing them in individual shoeboxes. Mine are all jammed into one box which gets awfully messy at times. By the way, these are all blocks left over from two traffic jam quilts. I just got a little carried away cutting my scraps into squares!

    I’ve got a small mess. I did 2 at a time then sewed 4 together then sewed those to another 4 and sew on. I should’ve stopped when some of these blocks got knocked off temporary design wall. I was so excited to start sewing again. Especially since all my blocks and seams were nesting. I got too excited too early and well now I have a bunch of twisted sisters. I don’t know if you’ve heard that phrase before but my sewing instructor told me that’s where my seams don’t lay flat ones going one way one’s going the other. Then I started getting the sniffles then I realized I was getting chills then I realized I had to put everything down and stop and do only the most necessary things for my husband and granddaughter any advice. Do I start over? Do I donate it to someone has the patience for stitch picking?

      @ellenhofer3343 3 роки тому +1

      I've started ironing all my seams open on my quilts. It works better for me than ironing to the 'dark' side. Easier to match seams & there's no big bump to sew over and still make sure seams lined up.
