    Got QT1 on my 2019 Altitude and its been hard looking for any videos with that system in use while off-roading. CLEARLY it shows that it can get the job done. I mean im not planning on going hardcore, but it eases my mind knowing i can do some moderate off-roading and start planning on going on some areas in the high deserts, and Moab later this year. My 2018 is bone stock ,tires and all I don't put it through what I would do to the WJ but stock tires and all I pushed a Subaru ( they suck) up a steep hill in a foot of snow with absolutely no problem, my WJ has 4 inches of lift and 30 inch tires that goes off road on road wherever I want it to go no problem . In my opinion the WJ is the better off road choice

    Looks like the Laredo had a lift and oversize tires. Nice to see A QT1 and QT2 together. The 2 systems have the same brake lock diffs AFAIK so they shouldn't be that different mechanically. you don't get the LSD till you have QD on the WK2's .The low range and better control over the traction control does make a difference though . @@dentondunn4346 I briefly looked into swapping QT for QD on my WK...it looked more complicated than I could handle. I ended up installing a lunchbox locker on the rear diff. That increased its capability, but it still struggled during climbs when the front end lost traction. As soon as the front wheels slip, no torque went to the rear axle and I would get bogged up front if I stayed on the throttle too long.
      Ultimately, I sold the Jeep and got an Xterra with a true four-wheel-drive drivetrain. It's night & day how much more capable this unit is, even with open diffs.

    That's a great video... good example of the 4x4 system differences. I'd be curious to see the difference between a pre 2011 QD2 (like in the vid) and a 2012 or later QD2. As I'm sure you know jeep stopped using the ELSD diffs for the front axle after 2011 instead opting for a BTC (BRAKE TRACTION CONTROL) system. Alot of people (myself included) were disappointed as we think the older "fully lockable" system is superior. I have a 2014 5.7 summit with QD2 and have spent alot of time playing around in different modes on different surfaces. You can get the system to provide power to all 4 wheels at once but you have to drive very aggressively and it will not stay "locked" for long... a few seconds usually. Here is a quick video of mine in the snow... you can see one front wheel spinning out alot before it transfers power.ua-cam.com/video/L2V8WTI0sBA/v-deo.html

    • @rockymountboy
      @rockymountboy Рік тому

      Debatable. The WJ actually has QuadraDrive, not QuadraDrive II. QDII came out with the next generation, the WK. With QuadraDrive, you lock the Transfer Case when you go in to 4Lo, and the diffs are VariLock Limited Slip (a hydraulic gerotor pump squeezes the clutch pack together so both wheels spin at close to the same speed). They get close to locking, but don't actually lock. You can have torque to all 4 wheels at once, though. The QD II system is computer controlled, aided by the ABS system. When you go into 4Lo to lock front & rear, the computer can actually lock the front & rear diffs as needed. It's the only system I know of that can lock LSDs. Lockers are usually only available on open diffs. The QDII system in the WK2, however, has an open diff in the front that does not lock, and simply uses traction control (braking) for traction up front.
      Some prefer QD to QDII. I haven't used both, so don't have an opinion.
