Hi, i think i have the same router you have but with a different brand name.. Does the shiny metal collar at the underside of the router gets very hot after let's say 5 minutes of use? Hope to hear from you. many thanks in advance
I looked for ages for this but never any stock. I bought the Lidl one for £30 recently which is great but full size so a bit on the chunky side. Like you I've only really used it for rounding over. Plenty of DIY router table guides on UA-cam, they look like you'd get a better finish with more control. Might try it this year when all the other jobs are done... Cheers for the video.
Thanks. Good points👍 yea I think it quickly sold out initially. I've seen the Lidl one also it looks a good deal. Might have a go at making a router table for mine when I get round to it.
I bought my one at ALDI yesterday morning, and there were three more in stock but, by the time I went to pay for my shopping, thirty minutes later, there was only one left. Other FERREX tools were also selling well. Anyway, I'm very pleased with my unit.
@@PhillWyattProjects Yes apparently the Parkside router bit sets are totally non-standard at 8mm...the standard for other makes, including Ferrex being 6mm (1/4 inch).
This is only a Palm router they are usually less powerful than the larger plunge routers. I am still using it. It does what I need it to do which is mostly adding round overs.
Very helpful. Many thanks. I have just learned the hammer but these routers fascinate me. I lived in Walsall for many years and worked in Brum city center (from Manchester though). Can't quite work out your accent?
I have the bosch gkf 600 and it seems to me that it is the same and the characteristics are the same, shape etc... I think that its interior is bosch today I was about to buy them to check
Never wear gloves using a router due to been dangerous unless you wish to lose fingers been pulled into the very sharp router cutter spinning at high speed. Also when using any router on out side edge of timber rout from left to right never go back wards as you where regular in the video for a few reasons. Firstly kickback, as your not cutting with the blade as it was intended and will burn the timber and quickly blunt your router bit, The ends of any timber should be routed first again left to right to prevent break out of timber fibre's. I've witnessed many fingerless wood workers in my 50 years of using routers and spindle moulders daily in my work as a cabinet maker. I've tried this router while it's value for money the locking mechanism and plastic base could of been improved by making stronger also a slow start as the JCB cheap router has would of been a bonus. I'm certain it has a use just remember routers can be extremely dangous in the wrong hands. Enjoyed your review.
Hi Phill, new subscriber here. Just wondering what the collet looks like please. I got one up from a friend but he lost collet and not a lot of info online to a replacement. Would be great to get a pic please or any idea if another brand collet would fit? Kind regards Alan.
Thanks Alan 👍 send me an email and I can't send you a picture of the collet. My email can be found in my about section or in the description of the video👍
@@PhillWyattProjects having watched your vid Phil, i purchased the router plus a 45 deg router bit the bit was to big in diameter (32dia) is there a small type i should be looking for?
Yes I agree. This video is over 3 years old and it was my first Router. I changed to using it the other way round shortly after this video. Now I have a cordless Router so I don't need to worry about cables getting in the way.
I shop at Aldi here weekly and have never seen something as cool as a router. I do gotta say you get more bang for the buck at Aldis . Hopefully they will be selling them soon here
Yea they do seem good value for money Chris. I've noticed with the run up to Christmas a lot of their power tools are sold out in the stores at the moment. I guess after Christmas they might stock up.
I've seen others on UA-cam recommend the Katsu palm router too which is £40 on Amazon right now and so is a lot easier to get hold of than this one - if that helps.
it was a bargain price.....my Makita cost a small fortune....would be interesting to see how long it lasts....and yes most of them have a kick on starting....a few come with soft start
Hi Joe, I'm still using it. It's going strong. I've used it a lot since I got it. I think it's decent quality. I'm used to the slight kick when turned on now it doesn't bother me anymore.
Good point. This was my first Router so thought this would be a good start. I'm still using it and it works well. The one you mentioned looks like a good option also.

I am not sure to be honest. I have never touched it after using it or noticed it to be hot. It is still working fine.
@@PhillWyattProjects many thanks
Hi, great video the bit of your own created an awesome effect, what is that bit called please.
Thanks it's a Roman ogee bit

Oh yea they do sell out fast. I used mine yesterday it's still working great 😃
Is it true that Parkside bits which have an 8mm shank size don't fit the Ferrex router which requires 1/4 inch shank?
I'm not sure about that 🤔
@@PhillWyattProjects Yes apparently the Parkside router bit sets are totally non-standard at 8mm...the standard for other makes, including Ferrex being 6mm (1/4 inch).
Is 600 Watts powerful enough. I note many routers on sale have twice that wattage?

it on sale this week so i need one now .
I have been using mine a couple of years now I like it.

They do look very similar now that you mention it. Would be interesting to know if they have similar innards 🤔
Hello my friend,
Thank you for the introduction and information. a nice router. I use a similar one too. greetings......
Your welcome 👍

Great bit of kit
Yea it's not bad
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I managed to pick one up. Your box of bits look well organised. Where are they from?
Thanks👍 I got them from eBay they are very cheap.
Nice one Phil been waiting for my store to get them in just adds a nice little touch to any project
Thanks Angus 👍 yea they can finish off a project nicely 👌
thanks for the good video👍🤝👍
No problem 👍
Has it got dust extraction
Hi, no I don't think it has.
Hi Phil, great bit of kit that, where did you get the router set?
Thanks Patrick I think I bought it from Amazon if you search for router bit sets on there you should find quite a few of them 👍

Have to keep an eye out for one of these
Yea pat I think a lot of the Aldi power tools have been snapped up for Christmas but hopefully they will get more in their stores soon.
@@PhillWyattProjects aldi and lidl stopped selling "non essential" items over here with all the madness.
@@Patmac74 Yea maybe that's the case here also then. I just thought they ran out.
Your cable is dangling in front of the cutter as your using it!! I suggest you turn it 180 degrees cable will then be "behind" the cutter

It's worth downloading the Aldi and Lidl apps as they always preview what's coming up in the weeks ahead. I always look out for any DIY!

You can order online with one of the apps as well. Aldi, I believe.
Does it come with a 16mm bush

you were robbed fella, you could have bought the RT0700 710W Makita Router for 60 quid ? Insane.
@@stigkrakpants3052 I never knew about the Makita model at the time. I still use this router and its still working well so I'm ok about buying it.
nice little tool
I think so too!
Thanks for this Phill. I managed to track one down on eBay a few days ago so I wish you'd posted yours earlier!
Your welcome Rob. I Would have posted earlier but I like to give a tool a good go before I do a review on it.
