I miss his wisdom. My heart 💔 goes out to his beautiful parents.
I love the way you DIY your own airplanes on the cheap, using your ingenuity instead of money.
o&r was originally an model airplane engine company. they used the same engine in a chainsaw, skill saw, generator, and some other things. very interesting business idea but unfortunately it didn't seem to take off. very cool to see one of these engines flying again!
I f****** love the "Santa Monica" rims on the Mk4 Jetta^^ had the same on my Golf....
"If you would like to see it fly click here."
GOD BLESS YOU SIR.
Lol okay then
I love how you take something like the chainsaw and MacGyver it. lol. Man you are awesome. I wish my sons would put a little imagination and input into something such as you have done. I bet you father is proud. I am curious every time I come to your channel to see what you come up with next. Take care.
Living good Lead by example and bring them along\include them in your diy projects
BEAUTIFUL CREATION!
Can we make an ultralight powered by chainsaw engines
You would probably want to use something bigger, like a Weed whacker engine or a small motorcycle engine.
Still doable though, if you cut off unnecessary weight from the engines.
For example here he kept the flywheel/fan on there, which is unnecessary weight since he already has the propeller on.
Not sure about the starter, but that could also be taken out and replaced with an electric variant. More convenient and lighter.
In the 80s people used 100cc chainsaw engines to fly
Bloody brilliant!!
rest in peace
Thanks, I have this same motor as a pre rotator on my benson B8 gyrocopter!
Nice project man. I was wondering, did you use 1 or 2 servos to control the ailerons? How many channels are you running on your receiver?
I used only one 9 gram servo per aileron. I am using all 6 channels on my radio system: ailerons, elevator, throttle, rudder, flaps, and a radio controlled relay switch which when on it grounds the ignition and kills the engine.
Good video,and informative
nice plane great work it looks fantastic :)
This is a really great informative video! Keep up the good work!
hmmmmmmm
Hi, I admire your creative talent. What on-board cameras do you use?
Hi, thank you! I used gopro's for a long time, now I use Mobius
Excellent idea! I can't imagine a chainsaw working with that small engine. Why you put your hand over de cilinder head? Your Jetta is cool too. Thanks for share
Have been really missing Him, really brilliant young man.
you know when a project is help together with zip ties and rubber bands its a good one.
finally someone who actually realized not everyone wants to sit at a computer to watch youtube👍
hi nive job
did u use fiberglass coting
how many layers
oz per meter
thak u alot
I did not. Just packaging tape
It sounds great in the air ! If you have trouble with landing , have you considered air brakes ?
welshpete12 you dont really need spoilers. Just chop the throttle and flare when you get close to the ground.
thanks for answer my friend .i find this prop adopter with10mm motor shoft and i think my engine shoft also is 10mm
+umar zaman The best thing to do is use a caliper to measure precisely what size it is, and if that size is unavailable, buy one that is slightly under size and drill the collet to the correct size.
Beauty!!
How did you avoid the exaust melting the foam. Im trying to make the same thing and my friend brought up that the exhaust would melt the foam. Is it not hot enough or did you do something to avoid the foam melting?
I didn't do anything
The wobble on that engine mount!
Yes that is by design with rubber in between the motor mount joints
Ahhh ok.
i have a similar chainsaw engine: how did you mounted the propeller on the flywheel? thanks
MultiChannel™ i have no experience in this whatsoever but i think he may have extended the output shaft with a bolt or something that would allow him to fasten the prop with a nut or something similar.
Im making my own chainsaw plane! I have been studying your video for mounting and other information, but I still have 1 question; what servos do you use? ive made plenty of foamies and have plenty of 9g servos but I feel those are gonna be too small, so, Samm, what did you use?
Haha, 9g worked for me! My mounting and throttle control is all very much just thrown together to try and make it work. I did use a standard servo for the elevator, but before that I used 2 9g for safety.
Cool, ill see how it works out and post the results!
I’d really like to know more about how the propeller adapter is made and works
The make them for different sized drive shafts. It’s usually just a collet
good job man. i have one question where did u get prop adapter i have a chain saw i wana convert in to rc engine thanks..
+umar zaman That was one of the challenges with this project, I measured the drive shaft with a caliper and found that nobody made one with that exact size. So what ended up working was I ordered the next size smaller and drilled it out to the perfect size. I used a lathe but some careful power drilling with a bench vise might work too
sweet GLI, ive got a 2014 GLI and its awesome
are you sure its not GTI
The golf's are GTI the Jetta's are GLI
What is the length of the fuselage?
Try an Eppler 215 type air foil
same guy awesome ....nice 2 stroke working on a flyable human 1/3rd scale p51.........at 50 i better hurry but im almost there
I want to know how you guys make the prop hold on the shaft for that engine
I used a “prop adapter”
I couldn’t find the right size so I go the size just smaller and used s lathe to make the hole the perfect size
Samm Sheperd so you make the bore of the prop bigger or you skim the shaft of the engine to fit ?
It's one year old video but believe me I had the same idea in my mind, why to buy an expensive glow gas RC engine when you just can take a 2nd hand old chain saw engine running on car gas, simple and easy + cheap :D
Leatherman sidekick?
I don’t remember, I lost that years ago but it was amazing and I want another one
können Sie mir nochmal ein link für so ein motor geben
how did you hinge the control surfaces ?
***** basically clear duct tape.. LOL
so just cut out the ruders and tape it till it stays in place ? I´m currently doing the same thing with a weed-eater engine...wings are cut and electronics ready :)
RIP
amazing transformation of engine onto plane! can you do a video on a plane with a nitro engine?
+i Build never had a nitro engine. Though converting a spark ignition engine is as easy as a glow plug and nitro fuel.
True. Anyways, it still would be cool if you did. I've been looking on eBay and the prices for used nitro engines are pretty cheap. I've seen nitro engines for $0.99 but I think that they were old engines that didn't run. Still, it would be cool If you did a take apart of one of these engines
i Build I love getting super cheap engines and just playing with them. I haven't found a case yet where an engine wont run after a little rebuild. See my "taking apart engine video" it's so fun especially when the engines are so cheap I don't care if I ruin anything
Yeah it is fun. I have an old leaf blower engine that has a busted carb. I've seen the engine take apart video and thought it was interesting. The cam shaft gear that runs the valves seemed to be olyptical. Was it? I know a youtube channel called rapmoz which is all about small rc style engines , many of which are fairly old. You should check out his videos because it would be cool if you did engine rebuilds on camera. I would definitely enjoy that.
Needs more cowbell...
Way to "hand" prop an airplane :D
petrol is gonna eat through that foam
except it doesn't seem to be doing that
strange, well all the better
Foam would melt with petrol.
Well it has stood up pretty well with this
Mr Samm, I bumped into your interestingly fun and entertaining videos while looking for information on the "HOW" to build an affordable foamie plane, and get it to....well fly.
I enjoyed your video, where you got to audit and work on a team... and guess what, when you tossed the foam board in the air, then diagramed why it did not fly......I was hooked.. then Lead acid battery vs high tech LiPo...... pointless, I think Not!!
fun Samm , and you narrate in a way that captures the fun!!
salute!!
P.s. being an old Nitro flyer( crasher ) the chain saw motor video was a "Gas"
keep up the Funtastic work, Inspirational!!
scott
i dont know what it is but i love the crude and worn look of your builds.
Great video's !! would love it if i got some more info in the builds like how do u wire it with RC setup etc would like to try it myself maybe sometimes ! but keep up the good work looks really nice !
have you figured out what's the top ceiling of the aircraft?
+Eustacio Raga a lot higher than I am able to take it
Thanks for sharing this. I really like the budget innovations you did and it seems to fly real nice
Thank you! I enjoy seeing your O&R machines as well
Cool! Think you could make a flying model of this idea I have for a one man kit helicopter that can be seen on UA-cam at " Helicopter Model 4 Monocopter" ?
When is saw that title, I was like:
yes
well hes dead
Have you ever tried Nitro for fuel?
I have an old Poulan chainsaw that Ive only seen run twice, for a few seconds, on pure butane.... no primer or gas lines... and the carb probably needs replaced, But got it to fire! its just a $13 part from being decent! probably...
Make a plane with afterburner
im working on building a wooden plane built with a 4 stroke weed eater engine that i found laying on the side of the road
How did you attach the wood to the front of the plane? Epoxy?
Love the jazz foamy in the opening shot too 👍🏻
i try to send u pic but i cant send if u chek on ebay wright 10mm prop adopter u can see this prop adopter and i have engine mcsp 40 chain saw
hes dead
Neat! Back in the day when I was flying glow engines I dreamed of doing something like this with an Ohlsson Rice. Very cool.
+CradyLab thank you! You should do a little tutorial or walk through of your workflow in AE, I would love to use those floating tags and animations into my videos also
+Samm Sheperd (SNRS) I haven't posted anything in a while because of an injury (minor) but once I get caught up on some other videos an AE tut on tags, lines, and tracking should be doable =)
Which airfool Tools you're using?
Housing in general for the whole saw
Who makes that blue jacket?
+jrmym2 think it was Sierra Designs. It was a staff jacket from working at summer camp
Sam Shepherd Can = Manufacturing == Plane engine = Milling and lathe == Is this possible == Please clarify == from you
Ugly but cool
Samn how would I mount a propeller to a home lite bc800 weed eater.
Dual Dagger i think im actually getting the same one for this very purpose. All you really need to do is extend the crank shaft to accomodate for the prop, or at least i think thats what you do. Just try and extend the crank shaft somehow.
can you make me a rc airplane out of a weed eater engine please
+justin hofman lol yes and so can you
I do the stuff to do it
These were actually sold as model aircraft engine. O&R.
+Crafted same company, different engine
Maybe you are correct. I have seen larger O&R gas model engines. Perhaps they were conversions as you have done. Looks like it's design lends itself to this kind of conversion.
Olson & Rice sold these as model aircraft engines for large scale model aircraft. That is one ugly foamy!!!!
Cool videos of your planes why i cant see the video of the canard plane?
Thank you! I uploaded that video with a song by Phoenix in it. And it seems they've decided that they don't want anybody to hear their song on a mobile device. So If you are viewing on a mobile device and not a computer, that's why.
oke!
I've never found a video with that chainsaw I have it has spark but won't run looking for a new housing for the pull start
I already sold that pull start part s while ago on eBay
Sam Shepard == Sam Shepard == How are you? Crisis so == can you tell me === and explain to me some things sir virtuous === thank you
Hey Samm Sheperd could you please give me the name of that guy who made that diaphram for you ? Ihave that same chainsaw .
Man I'm not sure if he's still around I just looked and didn't see it.
ok thanks anyways

*does not seem to have the gasket diagram in his store. Would not hurt to ask the seller.
what's the mass of the aircraft, in total?
+CreeperOnYourHouse bout 5kg
***** Including the engine? wow.
Samm Sheperd say it in american.
Bloo Jay 5kg = 0.342609 Slugs (the question asked for mass, not weight)
Samm Sheperd Civilized American not Deep South American
