Re: exiting the convo - when I studied abroad and talked to my parents on the phone and they got too annoying, I'd say "bye" and hang up on them. When I got back, I was in the habit of doing that and tried to end a LOT of our conversations this way... it was super awks cos I'd just sit there (STILL IN THE SAME ROOM AND FACING THEM) thinking "this works better on the phone" 😂😂😂😅

Same problem here, I live in a dormitory far away from my hometown and when my parents call me and make me furious I always just say that I need to go because I'm busy, and then I come back home and have no excuses to use because they see I'm just scrolling through pictures of fat cats while eating potato chips xd

You can do that?! I'm 34 with two older siblings and we've never been able to do that with our mom...or her mom. Although at our age it's no longer about lecturing and more about not having 45 minutes or the desire to stand around and keep the conversation trundling along past its natural conclusion.

I always find interesting that cultures all over the world have kind of the same festival's and ceremonies. I'm Hopi Native American and we have a ceremony were soyokos come to each of our houses in the village and demand food from everyone, young and old to pay for life for another year. they also know of the children have been bad and threaten to eat them if they don't correct their bad behavior.

satireknight nope. Krampus is german and is a christmas thing :) ours is in the frane of Carnival/Fasnacht but with scary masks. It is not the same in all regions but the one that is most similar is the Wallis "Tschäggättä" i have never been but this is basically the most "traditional" attempt of Carnival in Switzerland :)

      @aebi96 7 років тому +4

As an "aargauer" (swiss) guy I can agree the masks and the costumes look extremely close to the ones from our Guggemusig and Fasnachts guys :) (I dont really know anithyng about the storys behind them except for that I think its partially to scare kids and Fasnacht is to scare away the cold from the winter or something)

+Robert Amison They are Perchten also in Austria. Krampus is like the special one that visits the homes with Nikolaus, but Perchten roam the streets and make like lokal processions.
I am really amazed at how similar they look, though. instead of bast clothes they have fur clothes but the overall look is similar.

Don't be! There are plenty of people who travel to Japan knowing no Japanese at all. Of course it's harder to get around and you rely a lot more on hand signals and asking people for help, but I believe you get more opportunities to interact with Japanese people that way anyway. :)

Wow! That festival... there's an almost identical one in Finland, although not preserved as well. It was called "kekripukki" or "nuuttipukki" I think, and sometimes it worked in reverse with children dressing up as ogres and going house-to-house to sing, receiving treats in return. So it's kinda like a multi-task christoween. Mas. Thing.

    Nice video!
As I like seeing more of Japan cultural events and I have a lot of love for the kamis and yokais of Japanese folklore, I was really happy watching this video with all those onis!!
    Thank you!
And of course, the drone view is just amazing! It was really beautiful in Jun's last video too. I'm looking forward to the next ones!

      وَجَاء مِنْ أَقْصَى الْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌ يَسْعَى قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اتَّبِعُوا الْمُرْسَلِينَ
And there came a man running from the farthest part of the town.
      اتَّبِعُوا مَن لاَّ يَسْأَلُكُمْ أَجْراً وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ
Obey those who ask no wages of you

ِ"Shall I take (other) gods besides Him? If (Allah) Most Gracious should intend some adversity for me, of no use whatever will be their intercession for me, nor can they deliver me.
      إِنِّي إِذاً لَّفِي ضَلاَلٍ مُّبِينٍ
"I would indeed, if I were to do so, be in manifest Error.

"For me, I have faith in the Lord of you (all): listen, then, to me!"
      قِيلَ ادْخُلِ الْجَنَّةَ قَالَ يَا لَيْتَ قَوْمِي يَعْلَمُونَ

This whole thing reminds me of Krampus so much, and as soon as you said "opposite santa", I couldn't help myself but say it. Either you were aware of the Krampus tale, or that was a silly coincidence that you said opposite santa. I'm half German myself and know all about the Krampus story, which is pretty similar to this (but sometimes worse) and I'm glad my German dad was too traumatised by these stories to tell them to me and my sister.

This is really a beautiful video because of its winter scenery, so while your title might be apt for the scene with those cool costumes (you were genuinely scary, Rachel! hahaha), there's so much more here. There's one shot of about five seconds where the snow is falling on a forest: I really loved that and could watch it for hours. I gather you have a drone now too, so the overhead shots of your making snow angels is exciting. You've gone way beyond the average UA-camr because you're now making not only topically interesting videos, but also visually interesting videos. Maybe your fortune comes from that tree you got to touch. That was cool. It reminded me of the heart trees in Game of Thrones. Thanks! :)

In my country (Bulgaria) we have simular to these and we call them Kukeri but they are good and chase away evil spirits. The costumes are made of a special kind of goat and one full body costume takes about 7 years. Or you can have a costume from bear fur. They have big wooden, scary and painted masks and also all kinds of copper bells. They come to the town of Asenovgrad in January and dance on the streets
