Racist people come in all shapes, colors, sexes, and political ideologies.
There's a whole bunch of people who will argue that racism only applies to white people. As in racism only applies to white supremacy.
So instead of being on the same side and destroying racism, they've resorted to arguing over semantics.

@@dangercat9188 to be fair Latino is not gender neutral and Latinx is to indicate that it could be “Latino”(male) or “Latina” (female) therefore becoming gender neutral -but in this case it is quite silly as changing the letters doesn’t make a change in definition or meaning. Like even in reading “folks” vs “folx” they are pronounced the same. So it’s just the same word. I would understand using a different term if you find offense in the words “folks” but...it’s the same word with the same meaning. So if “folx” is gender neutral so is “folks” lol.

Having this perspective in regards to a race other than your own is just repeating the same line if thinking the slave owners had back when Africans were slaves. When will people realize that judging people as individuals, instead of as members of their groups, is the only way to combat prejudice
It's built into our DNA to perceive one another as members of groups. Ancient humans who organized themselves into tribes and discriminated against other tribes had higher chances of survival. The trick is to shift the human perspective to associate all people as a part of the same tribe; something that might be impossible.

I appreciate Dear White People more now because it is presented in a way that portrays all the content as a vague outlet for frustration. Someone young watching that video would get the takeaway that POC are frustrated at the things white people do, often little inconsequential things. Even the title of the video is made to be a single "wake up call," as if it is airing things that happen to POC that you (the white viewer) may not be aware of.
This video by Cut is presented in a way that a young viewer would think most or all POC hate white people outright, and not over little frustrations, but over very serious topics like genocide. Further, the lack of script and quick cuts to each person's reaction make it seem like this is not a one-time letter addressing white people, but that POC have been hating white people for things like genocide for as long as they can remember.

At the same time, it’s also not fair to blame an entire race for crimes committed by the few, even if those crimes were pervasive. The point is, it did not originate from Africa. So a person of color wearing a hat from a European country while saying white people (Originally Europeans) are appropriating other cultures is very ironic.

i think there are many cases of "cultural appropriation" that doesn't include famous ppl idk if you remembered but if i recall correctly on twitter there was some guy that got mad because a non-chinese girl wore cheongsam to her prom, there was also a tumblr post that called out a girl for "cultural appropriation" for wearing kimono despite that actually being a yukata and the girl was pure japanese
also i think not long ago ppl also called out those who braided their hair calling it as "appropriating black/ african culture" even though braids are universal in my opinion, even the tiny, many, braids. I braided my hair into many parts when i was a kid way before i was exposed to other countries' cultures

My ex was just like the people in the video. He had a major victim complex and would bring up slavery anytime we had an argument. He would constantly invalidate my culture (I'm Maori by blood but also white). One time I got pulled over and my cousin, who is a lot darker than me, got put in handcuffs. The cop saw our traditional Maori tattoos and immediately questioned us about where we were going, etc. It was scary. When I got home he told me that it was my 'white privilege' that meant I got away unharmed. We broke up not long after.
He probably loves this video. He HATES white people, yet said he dated me because I'm 'exotic' so I don't count except he brought up my whiteness in every argument to try and make me feel guilty for disagreeing with him.

We must judge each other as individuals not what is in our DNA. The Europeans conquered my people yes, but if they didn’t my people would be worse than South America or Africa. They committed genocide but in the end they ushered in great nations like the US. All our ancestors have done bad, but they also did good. My great great x20 grandfather was a conquistador if Spain, I’m sure he took many innocent lives. But if it wasn’t for his work the US would have never existed. My great grandfather fought to halt the advance of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial japan. Who all committed crimes farrrrrr worse than the conquistadors, and did little to no good. We all have those in our bloodline who have done bad, but I think that if we all did some research into history, a most important intellectual subject. We would find that many of our ancestors were brave and noble men. I believe that if those kind of people actually looked into European and American history and stoped finding excuses to hate modern day whites for it. They would also find many of those said “imperial good for nothing conquers” were the same men who fought to end slavery, made democracy, major contributions into physics, mathematics, biology and astronomy. And forged much of our modern world for the better. If we all had the drive to research the men of the past...History, racism wouldn’t be nearly as rampant as it is today. Alas many are losing their roots to their people and their people’s history and culture. One day I hope humanity once again sees how fascinating and important our long past is, and all come together to see the greatness of their ancestors and nation. I can only hope we become much less ignorant to history than we are now... it is important to remember our past...Our collective memory...And stop seeing it as another “boring subject”...I hope...

I think the original video was referring to white people collectively and historically. It's not equivalent to, say for example, mentioning african american stereotypes, because not all black people are african american, but all white people are European. Even those in America, they are a direct result of all the colonisation atrocities committed by Europeans. It's not racist to criticize the acts of a nation when it's just a historical fact. It would only be racism if you treat regular everyday white people differently than you would treat your own race. Not to mention the huge difference in power which makes systematic and institutionalized racism an impossible thing. You'll never in your lifetime hear about black police brutality against a white individual choking him to death. You'll never hear about a Mexican clan in the US hunting down white people and hanging them from trees.
Please learn the difference between racism and racial discrimination.

Not to mention the fact that the population size is not high enough to measure an entire race. And this was only centered in America anyway. If there was an influx of Hispanic people coming to a majority black area, then the culture that the black people made will have less of an influence as they will have less of a population and there will be more intermingling with new ideas. There could potentially be a new culture with aspects from latinos and blacks. When white people came to America, there was an influx of new cultures that then Overtook Native American ones. This thereby reduces The strength of said culture at least in certain aspects. I’m Hispanic and this honestly seems like common sense. I do not see how this is denigrating or reducing another race, especially since one race doesn’t just have one culture. However, since this country is becoming more multicultural the denigration of “American culture” just seems natural. Whether that's a good or bad thing is another topic.

That video is just as helpful for combatting prejudice as white supremacy is. All those people showed me was that they don’t view people outside their own race as individuals, and they value a person based on appearence first.
No type of extremism is going to end prejudice, believing your own race is superior to all others is supremacy in its own right. America is very focused on race so I can’t blame them for what their society taught them, but they need to take a step back and see how they are treating people vs. how they want to be treated. We all know every last one of them would lose their shit if another person said their own quote to them.
