I put skis on for the first time in my life this week and travelled 18km in one day without any technique - VERY tiring...and painful... not knowing how to slow down my method of stopping on declines was to dive on the floor ... serious!. I'm putting the skis back on tomorrow... and this video is going to helpe massively. Thank you so so much!
Too funny, love the British humor, very close to the Danish humor. We are a Danish family living in the Pacific Northwest new to Nordic skiing 😊, thanks for the video 👍
Very good! My late wife was British so I understood you easily. It was good to hear again. I have been downhill skiing since the early 1950s. But new wife won't let me go out unless it is cross country. (Due to age and condition.) So, being grateful to have her, I even listen sometimes. Thus tuning in here for the introduction to this variety of the sport. Because I enjoy my old habits and terminology, I was prepared for many odd new things as I began this video. But I am happy to be wrong. I can get along with everything you said and showed. The sole exception being that I will have sturdy poles that I can use to help me up from a fall, the old downhill way. I will be sharing this with a cousin my age who is an experienced XC skier, to see what he says. Thank you both for a good and pleasant video. I look forward to using what you shared with us.
I watched this video shortly before cross-country skiing for the first time...and used all of these skills out on the trail. Incredibly helpful -- thank you!
Thanks for the great beginner’s introduction to xcountry skiing and the equipment. Hubby and I are in our mid 60s, trying this sport for the first time. We did well, thanks to watching you first! We are fortunate, to have plenty of snow property, between our neighbors and ourselves, we have plenty of acres to practice on. What a fun sport! I sent this video to our daughter, who wants to give it a try. Thanks again.
I had trouble sleeping and Dr told me to x country ski 5 km / day to get in shape for 5 days then give him a call. After 5 days I gave him a call and he asked how I was sleeping. I replied , I'm not sure yet , I'm 25 km away from home. Great video thank you.
Being a Canadian of some Norwegian heritage, classic cross country is almost a religion for me - so I watched your video very scrupulously. There are a thousand things I would like to add - but as a beginners guide I think you have hit all the major points. I would like to add one point, however. When engaging an aggressive decline, get those hands out of the straps on the poles. If you lose control in a fall, it is best to toss the poles away because some newbie skiers stick them out front and then can't let go because of the straps. This can cause injury or lead to you falling on your poles and being pinned down with your hands stuck in the straps. Otherwise, I think you have really thought this through and kept the information to the most critical for beginner skiers.
A very helpful video teaching this old dog a new trick. I've been skiing for years and never before tried the half snow plough on a turn. It works great! Thank you for that.
Just returned from my first attempt at XC skiing after your great tutorial. I did, however, find getting back up a bit more challenging than it looked. By the third time, much easier. Lol. Thank you.
Cool. I’ve cross country skied many times but have always been unsure if I was doing it correctly. Now I’m ready to REALLY go CROSS COUNTRY . Thanks guys, I loved the video 😎
Really great video for total beginners to cross country skiing - assumes nothing but explains everything including equipment; basic technique; turning; up & downhill. As an experienced downhill skier but 'Rookie" cross country skier this was perfect...thanks guys!
Trying it in 2 weeks in BC Canada, thanks for the tips. I tried skiing last year and my biggest problem is fear of loosing control downhill so I think I'll give this a try to get more used the whole thing, I can't wait 😊
man, thanks for the video, today I went cross country for the first time. BTW, special thanks for the tip about how to get up after you fall, that one was the most useful lol.
Thanks for the great video. I live in Calgary, Canada. It's been a particularly long and snowy winter so I have decided to look into cross country skiing. Your video was very helpful.
Great video. Went out for the first time today before watching this video and will try again tomorrow w/ more knowledge. The video was excellent at the basics and will watch again. Thank you.
Day 3 I found the rhythm. The video was helpful especially about kick...glide...kick...glide. So far, I think cross-country skiing is a cross between jogging and rollerskating.
Thanks for a great video ! As a fellow Brit loved the humour. Going to give it a go this winter, I’m normally a pretty average alpine skier so will try this to broaden my incompetence further.
Great intro. Many thanks for posting and love the outtakes. We laughed when watching the equipment section again and saw you laughing when the boot clipped in. :)
Great introduction, guys! Thanks for the extras at the end, it gives an even more personable tone to the presentation. I’m definitely going to try it out.
Hadn't cross country skid in a long while - very nice review. Bought a great package - Salomon women's at Play It Again Sports. Hardly used - great price too. Thanks!
"Long, skinny, lightweight... little bit like me"... me too! Thanks so much for this video. We took one lesson last season and are ready to get out and give it a go again. Great reminders, and kid-friendly, too. (^_^)
I really dont understand, how can some people give thumbs down to this,it was really informative ♥️
Probably downhill skiiers
Haters will hate!
He said if you have trouble understanding, you can turn on the closed captions...
Theres no accounting for taste.I realy enjoyed it!
@@jonathanfranck357 I'm a downhill skier and I liked it.If I lived in a snowy country I'd be cross countrying and love to biathlon.

that's amazing enthusiasm and a surefire way to become a great skier!
I swear my tactics to stop is also to dive. Nice to hear that I'm not alone out there
Great . I'm a 65 year old Brit living in Russia and I'm really enjoying learning cross country . Nice to hear a British accent on a ski video :-)
A beautiful British accent!
Too funny, love the British humor, very close to the Danish humor. We are a Danish family living in the Pacific Northwest new to Nordic skiing 😊, thanks for the video 👍
It’s 2021 and I am here to learn. Thank you so much.
me too! Tried today for my first time EVER. :)
@Maison Zayn just stop. robot.

V well presented indeed, huge help to me as a novice when the information is delivered this way. Well done.

Keep your hands/poles out in front for balance and drop your centre of gravity for descents.
😊
I love the self effacing nature of your instructions . Give us more out takes! Thanks for taking the time and effort to post this
Great instruction. I told my wife all the same things today but having heard it from an expert she now believes it. :)
Doesn't she know she married an expert?
A very helpful video teaching this old dog a new trick.
I've been skiing for years and never before tried the half
snow plough on a turn. It works great! Thank you for that.
The half-snowplow is a very helpful tip! I had no idea how to control my speed in the parallel track.

Trying it in 2 weeks in BC Canada, thanks for the tips. I tried skiing last year and my biggest problem is fear of loosing control downhill so I think I'll give this a try to get more used the whole thing, I can't wait 😊

Hello dear friend greeting from Macau China
Thanks so much for great sharing ❤️❤️
I'd give the manual NNN BC bindings a go. The Automatic clip in bindings are a bit hit or miss esp. if they clog up with ice.
Brilliant video - really clear and easy to understand. Thanks! :-)
