the best online, music is so soothing, the method is slower to follow, the instructions on the screen so timelry, the list that's comes up before the video helps you prepare, God bless you
I posted a new tutorial a few days ago. I don’t know when the next will come out. A lot of time and energy goes into 1 tutorial (no matter how simple a design looks).
Thank you so so so so much for sharing this with everyone, I've wanted to become more familiar with construction of clothes (specifically dresses) but had no idea how to start off, this helps so much! 😊
Thank u for ur time and showing us how to make a dress also love the music it good to relax and to concentrate.... keep putting music like this with ur tutorial ❤️
Came here from sewing group on facebook where someone shared your tutorial. Thanks for making this. I'm always so reluctant to try and sew a dress. Might try it out this time. Pinning in on pinterest to get more exposure :)
Thank you soooo much for making this video! My prom is coming up and I had a specific image of my desired dress in my head but no idea how to make it haha! This is very much appreciated
Hey, loved the end dress and wanted to make one for myself for a fancy event. But I'm new with this fashion/sowing industry, and was wondering if you can show me how toe measurements for each part of the pattern work. Thanks love.
If a dress is fully lined, is it customary to sew the boning to just the outside of the lining fabric, so that when the assembled dress is complete, the boning is between the layers of fabric, and not sewn at all directly to the outer fabric? I hope this makes sense.
You are amazing. The dress so beautiful. I am in a Pageant and I bought a dress online and everything is perfect but it is way too long. so would you know how to cut it shorter or something like that.
Thank you! How to make the dress shorter and to finish the hem depends on the type of fabric, the design of the dress and the grainline on which the fabric was cut. I would advise you to take it to a tailor and have them shorten it for you because If the hem isn’t finished properly it can take away from the whole look of the dress. If you don’t have the experience of doing this you would be taking a risk, especially since you’ll be judged while wearing the dress.
I am planning on making my prom dress and I wanted to know if I can just make the panels of the mermaid dress but make it a skirt and connect a off the shoulder top to it
What fabric did you use? And what interfacing? I am wanting to make a satin gown with a heavyweight interfacing for the hem and the bustier but I am not sure what type to use as I have never made a gown before
+Jennifer Stanley (innocentsmoothie) I used a blend of cotton and viscose fabric and a heavyweight (woven, cotton) interfacing that was fusible. I would be cautious with satin because the fabric can be a little too flowy (not giving enough structure) and it's usually a synthetic fibre (unless it’s made of silk). You may sweat in it and feel a little uncomfortable wearing it. If you still prefer satin then use cotton or another natural (breathable) fiber for the lining of the bustier.
im new at your video and you are very talented im trying to be more like you im trying to make more video like that i love yoyr dress wow i hope u have more video to watch
Can this be done with a more stretchy material? If so, what fabric would you recommend? 100% beginner trying to get at least this off my bucket list....always have wanted to learn to design/sewing =)
Yes you can also use a more stretchy fabric but it is a lot trickier because you would have to take into account a lot of different things (e.g. body type, other materials, altering the pattern) to get the best result, and do things differently as shown in this tutorial. It’s kinda difficult to explain exactly what to do and what to take into account over text, especially because you are a beginner. If you want to practice or find someone who is a bit more experienced to help I would suggest any kind of woven fabric with a blend of elastane, or use a densely double knitted and heavy jersey fabric (that has minimum stretch) otherwise it not give the desired volume at the bottom even when adding horsehair braid.
For a wedding dress I would go with silk taffeta. It will give you a posh shine and appearance. Taffeta has a crispy feel (slightly stiff) to help with the structure and volume of the flared skirt. The amount of fabric you need depends on your size. For the patterns I sell I have an estimate of what is needed. If you make your own pattern you’ll have to use the pattern to determine how much fabric you need. I have a tutorial on that titled “how much fabric to buy” (bit.ly/2s8CEOE).
I have a pattern in those sizes available in my store. If you want to make it yourself you should check two of my previous videos on how to take your measurements and how to make the pattern. You would be making the pattern according to your own measurements. All the needed information (plus links) is in the description box. Note: the video on how to make the pattern is demonstrated on the computer but you can do it on paper.
+Bianca Johnson Hi, glad you love it! I used fabric with a blend of Cotton and Viscose (it shouldn't be hard to find), but you could use other kinds of fabric as well. Don't know about Jo Ann fabric, we don't have that store where I live.
+Bianca Johnson I’m happy to help. I used 5 meters of fabric, but it really depends on your patterns. I used the placement technique as shown in my video “How much fabric to buy? (for a planned project)” at bit.ly/1qWLSJO to determine how much I needed.
+noelnova okay. Cool. It took me about five to make a maxi flared skirt. Are you on Instagram? I love being in connection with people that have the same talents and interests
+xXKaoriHatakeXx Thanks! Yes it’s the same pattern. I made the pattern with the intent for the dress to be fully lined but then changed my mind. So I ended up making the dress only lined at the bodice.
+noelnova I've tried to google it but I can't find heavyweight woven fusible interfacing. :-( Would you be able to tell me where you got yours from? Thank you :-)
+jonrob8687 At a local store. I would advise you to go to a fabric store to feel the interfacing and decide which one you want rather than buying it online. If you can't do that than google for woven interfacing and then look for something that is also fusible and heavyweight.
+Olayinka Olanipekun Thank you! I don’t exactly know what you mean with the ‘tapes’. At the beginning of the video I’ve stated all the materials and tools used to make this dress.
Hi, well I am a total novice but your tutorial made sense to me so wanted to give the dress a go however I don't have a pattern for the dress or inserted bodice & I honestly don't understand how you've done it. Thank you for coming back to me
Hi Zoe. I have another video on how to make the block pattern but you’d need a dress form (ua-cam.com/video/mzqtu5ylzWU/v-deo.html). I also sell (block) patterns in my store to help you get started.
Hi. it’s definitely possible but you would probably have to add some fabric (depending on how big/small the dress is). The mermaid dress with be a little different from the one in this tutorial though.
You have flare on your mermaid dress. My dress material is satin so i dont want many flare i just want simple mermaid dress and want to add volumizer on bottom of the dress, Is it possible?
Every mermaid dress flares out but you can minimize the volume. I think you mean to say that you want less ruffles. Is that correct? If so, then I gather that you want an underskirt to give volume that will smooth the ruffles at the bottom and give you a full round skirt (a bell shaped skirt)? Is that correct? If so, then yes that is possible. You could also have the top be of the satin fabric and the bottom (the volumed skirt) of another material.
Yes i think i want to turn my dress into bell shaped skirt. Can i have top and bottom same material ? You are really amazing. You understand so easily.
Happy be able to help :) If the dress you’re altering is made of a lot of fabric then I don’t see why not. If not, then you would have to buy matching satin fabric for the skirt.
Not necessarily. To stiffen the hem you don’t have to use horsehair braid (or crinoline trim) all the time. The heavyweight interfacing is a good alternative, providing similar results.
I’m happy that you're getting something out of the videos. What year are you in? I wonder how much much of the teaching material has changed since I graduated years ago.
It depends on your own experience and how you know your way around a sewing machine. I made the design and pattern as simple as I know how so it would be less difficult for someone with less experience. If you understand what I’m doing in the video from beginning to end, then making the dress is basically like putting pieces of a puzzle together with the dress as the end result. The only thing that would be challenging is putting in the zipper and neat finishing of the dress which comes with some experience.
A fine and tightly woven fabric that feels a little stiff. The stiffness will help hold the shape and volume of the dress. Something like taffeta (which also has a lustrous surface).
It's amazing how much work goes into such a simple design. The gown is beautiful.
A very lovely dress thank you for sharing your ideas and talent with us.

Hello, you did very beautifully! how to measure the fabric to cut out patterns?
Hey, loved the end dress and wanted to make one for myself for a fancy event. But I'm new with this fashion/sowing industry, and was wondering if you can show me how toe measurements for each part of the pattern work. Thanks love.
You should check the description below the video for info that will be helpful to you.

I hope this makes sense.
very neat sewing
+Dr Sophie thank you
You are welcome. Keep it up
WoW!! I am going to camp here till i get the plus size right.
Well done! The dress is beautiful.

I'm working on some ideas right now. Thanks for watching!

I Would suggest an invisible zipper instead :) love The dress though :)
CeNadraz isn't there one?
Cup Cake oh no it isn't in the video. an invisible zipper is plastic and not metal and look alot different then the normal ones.
Please I want to know how u made the pattern
Very informative and a beautiful dress, but I don't understand the choice of zipper, with the big ring attached to it?
it´s personnal
I want to make this for my wedding.. can you tell me what fabric choice is best? Also, the amount of fabric needed :)

ITS VERY NICE
Lovely. thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Do you think you can put a very basic dress together n three days or less?
+Michaela Wallace Do you mean in general? If so then yes you can do that.
u good at it
What type of fabric did you use?
how would I be able to make a size 18 - 20 dress?
do you own a shop ? I think you should own one
I do have a shop where I sell the pattern. You can find the link in the description box.
+noelnova how would I make a size 18-20 dress?

I absolutely love this dress. Very beautiful. What kind of material is this? And do you think Jo Ann fabric sell a similar kind?
+Bianca Johnson Hi, glad you love it! I used fabric with a blend of Cotton and Viscose (it shouldn't be hard to find), but you could use other kinds of fabric as well. Don't know about Jo Ann fabric, we don't have that store where I live.
+noelnova you're welcome. And thank you so much for your response. Also, how many yards did it take?
+Bianca Johnson I’m happy to help. I used 5 meters of fabric, but it really depends on your patterns. I used the placement technique as shown in my video “How much fabric to buy? (for a planned project)” at bit.ly/1qWLSJO to determine how much I needed.
5 meters is about 5.4 yards. I also bought about 1 yard of interfacing.
+noelnova okay. Cool. It took me about five to make a maxi flared skirt. Are you on Instagram? I love being in connection with people that have the same talents and interests
amazing!!!!
+Shamieka Pryor Thank you!
Great tutorial! I'm eager to try it out! Quick question, is this dress using the same pattern as your "Drafting a mermaid dress pattern" video?
+xXKaoriHatakeXx Thanks! Yes it’s the same pattern. I made the pattern with the intent for the dress to be fully lined but then changed my mind. So I ended up making the dress only lined at the bodice.
Do you have the tutorial for the pattern
thats great work..
Very nice
That's awesome. What kind of interfacing was used on the hem and corset?
+jonrob8687 For the corset and the hem I used heavyweight woven (cotton) fusible interfacing. It feels fairly stiff, similar to horsehair braid.
+noelnova I've tried to google it but I can't find heavyweight woven fusible interfacing. :-(
Would you be able to tell me where you got yours from?
Thank you :-)
+jonrob8687 At a local store. I would advise you to go to a fabric store to feel the interfacing and decide which one you want rather than buying it online. If you can't do that than google for woven interfacing and then look for something that is also fusible and heavyweight.
beautiful...what was that you had on the bottom hem
good job, very good. pls what do you call the tapes you used at bust part?
+Olayinka Olanipekun Thank you! I don’t exactly know what you mean with the ‘tapes’. At the beginning of the video I’ve stated all the materials and tools used to make this dress.
Those are the casings that comes with the boning
Olayinka Olanipekun probably meant the twill tape I used as boning channels the bones were inserted into.
very informative!!
is gown ko bana ne k liye kitna kapda chahiye mam
awesome, did this fabric have stretch to it at all?
No it doesn't.
すごい!!!!うまい!!!!すすばらしい!!!!😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨美しい!!!!😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
hibiya aya はい きれい ですね。😄
beautiful
Why am I watching this? I only know how to sew a running stitch by hand along a fraying scrap of fabric.
Lol I just watch these because i find them satisfying
Lmao
Where can I find a comprehensive guide to making the pattern for this please? I'm struggling to follow your pattern tutorial. Thank you
I always make my own patterns so I don’t know what else is out there. What are you struggling with? Maybe I can help clarify.
I also sell (block) patterns in my store to help you get started.
very beautiful. Do you have the pattern for sale?
+MS.DELO1051 no not at this time
+MS.DELO1051 The pattern is now available at etsy.me/24RFsKG
Can u tell me the measurements of these cut outs ..
Can this be made with other materials like satin?
Yeah sure
That's great , thanks
please can u show the cutting part of this tutorial. i will really b grateful if u can do that. thanks
what is the pattern you used for this mermaid dress?
+giovanni centino I made the pattern myself. You can check the description box for more info.
Where can I find a pattern for a dress like this? All the mermaid dress patterns aren't as long. It's perfect for my wedding dress!
You should have a look at my shop where I sell the pattern. The link is in the description box
Hi, I think this video is great :D
May I ask what is the type of the sewing machine you use?
Thanks in advance :)
Thanks. I’m currently using a computerized home sewing machine.
Do you need a serger ?
No not necessarily. You can also use a zig zag stitch on your sewing machine (I noted that at the beginning of the video)..
Thanks for sharing... how can I get the pattern?
+Veronica Sherif You can make it. here is how I show you how: ua-cam.com/video/cyi5D6h6WhE/v-deo.html
+Veronica Sherif The pattern is now available at etsy.me/24RFsKG
hi i have old dress. Can i turn old dress into mermaid gown? U are truly talented person so asking for help

Happy be able to help :) If the dress you’re altering is made of a lot of fabric then I don’t see why not. If not, then you would have to buy matching satin fabric for the skirt.
Thank you
where did you get your maniquin from?
I made it myself. I’ve got a 4 part tutorial named “DIY Body Double Dress Form” (ua-cam.com/video/Nxeb9wrm8ow/v-deo.html) where I show how I made it.
where u get the zips from please??
From a local store
Thanks a lot.
Gracias por el video.
+mzzzol thank you for commenting
How many yards/meters did you use for this dress?
I used 5 meters of fabric (the lining included)
the heavyweight interfacing serves as horsehair for the hem?
Not necessarily. To stiffen the hem you don’t have to use horsehair braid (or crinoline trim) all the time. The heavyweight interfacing is a good alternative, providing similar results.
+noelnova yes that's what i'm saying 😊 btw do you make your patterns?
Yes I do
+noelnova cool 😃 i'm a fashion student and i'm learning from your videos
I’m happy that you're getting something out of the videos. What year are you in? I wonder how much much of the teaching material has changed since I graduated years ago.
Where can I find the pattern? Thanks
You can find a link to my shop in the description box
What is the name of the white material you put under the top of dresse. Exuse my English is really bad
That’s fusible interfacing. You can also find a list of all the used materials at the beginning of the tutorial.
Thanks for the answer 😊👍
You're welcome :)
what kind of serger machine u use? as only use a small thread?
I have a serger machine with 2, 3 and 4-thread stitch capabilities
+noelnova ooo, so what type serger u use?
I already answered your question, so I’m thinking you mean something else. Can you clarify?
+noelnova ops sorry before ,i mean brand of ur serger
Oh ok. Toyota
on a scale of 1-10 how difficult is this ?
It depends on your own experience and how you know your way around a sewing machine. I made the design and pattern as simple as I know how so it would be less difficult for someone with less experience. If you understand what I’m doing in the video from beginning to end, then making the dress is basically like putting pieces of a puzzle together with the dress as the end result. The only thing that would be challenging is putting in the zipper and neat finishing of the dress which comes with some experience.
What fabric would you suggest
A fine and tightly woven fabric that feels a little stiff. The stiffness will help hold the shape and volume of the dress. Something like taffeta (which also has a lustrous surface).
noelnova thnk you
where can I find that dress pattern I need one
I made the pattern and have it available in different sizes. You can find the information in the description box.

Thanks! I definitely have a couple of things in store in the future that you might like.
Do have this pattern for sale on esty???
+waltrina hill No not yet. It's going to take me a while to grade it in different sizes.
+waltrina hill I now have the pattern available on Etsy at etsy.me/24RFsKG
