Christmas Day on BBC One 2000 line up trailer

Good old Auntie never lets us down at Christmas, and 2000 was no exception with a cracking Christmas Night line-up that included the network premiere of Titanic, a double helping of EastEnders, The Borrowers and The Royle Family.

A three hour film on prime time Christmas night on BBC One was unheard of in 2000 and unheard of now. Titanic was unique, as it was the super hit film of the decade and deserved the network premiere Christmas prime time slot, even though it did eat up three hours on Christmas night - Never again would a three hour film be scheduled in the same way on the BBC.

Leading in and leading out of the Titanic premiere was Eastenders - an excellent piece of scheduling by BBC One, attracting huge audiences and hoping they would remain for three hours.

The BBC paid 7 million pounds to show Titanic.
