This song is about Taylor Lautner and he confirmed it himself. So, I think you know about the 2009 VMAs incident with Kanye West. That night Taylor Lautner was also on the stage when this happened. The lyrics "and how you held me in your arms that September night, the first time you ever saw me cry" are about this VMAs night (the ceremony went on 13th September, and btw I'm still in shock that it's 13... you know, Taylor Swift's lucky number 0_0). You get the meaning of the song right and this is the only Taylor's breakup song that is an apology, Lautner is really a good guy.

OK. I believe you that it's Taylor Lautner. And I believe him, too. But, little known fact, I was dating Taylor Swift 13 years ago (when I was only in my 60s) And the song is definitely about me! BTW. I'm just joking, but great song. As a guy, if someone wrote me an "I'm sorry" song. I'd be on a plane so quickly. Guys typically don't get that.(For good reason. A lot of we men are dogs. So a "you broke my heart and now I'm hurt" to a guy song. I totally buy it. That's what make this one special. (And it's totally about me. :-) )
Her and Lautner, and his wife are all very good friends to this day, he co- starred in her video, "I Can See You", all is good....great reaction

That is the interesting part to this song. Most of her other songs are about how some boy messed her up and broke her heart. I think this is her moment. The only thing consistent about all of your failed relationships is... you. This is her apology.
