Nigeria my country. Because we are such a deeply sentimental people, we are unable to seat and analyse the crises bedeviling our dear nation, objectively. ASUU plays the victim and we all fall for their gimmicks. There's a reason why we've not had serious headway since 2009! *Why?* Nobody cares to know. For us ASUU is the victim! Do we for once think that the amount paid soldiers and policemen are near enough? Yet these brave men have never tried to down tools on us the way ASUU does like a spoilt child throwing tantrums. These shameless lot will ask to be paid for work not done! Where else if not Nigeria would such be tolerated?
*IPPIS* is a system introduced to curb massive corruption in the public sector as far as emoluments are concerned. ASUU kicked against it even though the Armed Forces bowed to it despite the fluidity of their operations! Other key MDAs have migrated already *Why?* Is there anyone here who is unaware of the massive corruption in the education sector anchored by members of ASUU? What have the meagre resources provided been used for so far? Are we unaware of the fact that one staff lectures in 3 or more universities and collects salary from each, paid by the same source? Isn't that a problem and part of why they kick against IPPIS? Aren't these the same lecturers enmeshed in sex-fo-grade or pay-for-grade scandals? Should the FG still be blamed for these? The list of misdemeanors is by no means exhaustive.
Now to the FG. The infrastructural decay in our institutions leaves much to be desired. I don't know how much commitment the FG has made in that regard but much needs doing, obviously. I know that the buck always stops with the FG; and rightly so too. Hence I would have hoped that issues be trashed head-on without the political hocus-pocus repeatedly displayed by the FG through its Ministers of Labour and Finance. The FG should come out and speak to Nigerians in clear terms, with empirical evidences! That way, we would know where we all stand. This blame game has not helped us in Nigeria and for whatever reasons, we seem to like it
