Wahay! I have to admit, I'm severely behind on your vlogs lately 😳 all I know is you keeping popping out photos from a different location in America each time, ha!
I have used various camera bags, including Lowepro, Tamrac and others. When I needed a bag to consoidate everthing in one bag for my Real Estate shoots I researched once again. I found the Manfrotto Pro Camera backpack SKU MB MP-BP-50BB to be perfect. Chest strap, ability to re-configure for diffrent shoots and top handle just like Joe likes. It actually has a semi hard back flip back for added protection. It comes with a rain coat and the ability to have a quick access to camera without opening the whole bag. Lots of space, great backpack with numerous features like the tripod holder and still, fits under your airline seat. I have been using it for over a year now and it just preforms. All I can say is that I was pleasantry surprised.
Awesome, man! I came close to buying that bag a couple of years back when I got my last Manfrotto bag. The only thing that held me back was the lack of a non-camera compartment for a few daily items. As time has gone on, I've realised I rarely need that type of compartment nowadays any way, so it's not so much of a needed feature for me. That being said, I have barely moaned or complained about this Lowepro bag, so I'm pretty sure it's probably a perfect fit for me!
Dude I literally watched this video when it was published a few years ago and thought damn Melbourne looks cool. Now I’m actually stood at the same exact spot as you in Docklands!
Great review, especially since you actually had time USING the bag. I’m torn between this and the ThinkTank Hard Drive...but leaning towards the Lowepro.
Well done. Very helpful, candid and well presented video. I would add that my personal experience as a keen amateur is that Lowepro is a great company. I had a problem with my previous bag and their response was fast and completely satisfying.
It sure seems to be a GOOD bag and you talk well about it, from a practical, on the terrain point of view. But to be the BEST bag, I'd have wished to hear more about other bags! (Thinktank, Tamrac, ClikElite,...)
Nice review, I ordered one, I had the smaller version that came out a while ago and it really only fit my mavic and I could squeeze a gh5 in the top but not safely. The one thing I would suggest is it's a tactical molle bag your'e supposed to attach smaller compartments to hold extra gear, especially items you would like quick access to, I have rain gear/extra layer and snacks outside the main body, I've been picking up small camera bags at second shops forever for batteries, lights etc and %90 have that belt snap so they are great for tactical setups.
Thank you for making this video! I think now I know what I want. I would like to mention that you talk at a very nice pace n volume so ti was easy on the ears. Thanks again! cheers!
just bought mine a week ago. I've actually decided on this one the first day I stumbled upon it online :D but your review sealed the deal! I'm still experimenting with the internal organization and compartments, haven't found the right setup yet... :) but the bag is awesome and can carry a lot, photo equipment and other stuff also!
I'm trying to decide between this 450 and the slightly smaller 350. Have you taken the 450 on an airplane as a carry-on? Might the 350 be better for this? Also, might the smaller 350 be better as a day-pack? I don't really need to be a pack-mule and take all my stuff when out on an afternoon shoot. Or is the 450 really not -that- much bigger? Thoughts?
lovely review! but you did not mention the extra pads they come with and the waist strap are very good for hiking mountain. bought this 2015, for my 60D with kit lens,50mm1.8,yongnuo flash, few 8GB sd cards, the bag is the most expensive photography equipment i own..lol
Hey Joe, excellent video as always. Your channel got me into photography and with each video I learn more and more. This bag really looks like a perfect companion to put camera gear in it. Keep it up :)
Thanks for the vid! Had you considered using a bad similar in capacity and usability that also adds wheels and pull up handle? I saw one reviewed but have forgotten the manufacturer.
I LOVE you videos! I have been an amateur photographer for over a year. What kind of filter do you use on the videos? It looks like it has a bit of vintage mixed in.
Finally a proper review of this bag! This has decided it for me, was trying to choose between this and the Peak Design Backpack. I had the 350 version of this but I returned it because it was too small for my gear and honestly having the 15" laptop compartment is just a must. Do you find it is too large? Maybe it just looks mahoosive on some people :) thanks man!!!
Glad you liked it! I personally don't think it's too large as a camera bag. It definitely holds its shape and size better than other bags I've used and feels slimmer in depth, due to the rigidity of the structure. I've also used much larger bags in the past, so have no real issue with it. Bags don't look too big on me though as I'm 6ft, but shorter people may have a different situation.
Thanks! I'm 6ft 2" (not like there's any competition 😉) so thats not a worry! Also really like the way you've laid it out, I've never thought about packing vertically instead of horizontally! Thanks mate, take care!
Hey :) and no unfortunately, only up to a 13" MacBook Pro. I sent mine back and am getting the 450 model because it will fit my laptop. I told myself I didn't need it to fit my laptop but I was basically lying to myself. If you ever need to carry your laptop with you EVER I would get the 450 :)
Hi Joe! I saw your review of the manfrotto 3in1-35 bag and I was planning to get that one (or the 3in1-36, same bag, newer version) why do you prefer the lowepro over the manfrotto? Btw I really like the gear you use, great reviews!
Great review. I wish I saw a review for this bag when I was deciding on what to buy, would've made my decision easier. In my experience, I actually found the shoulder straps of the bag a bit less comfortable than my manfrotto tri-backpack, I preferred the thickness of the manfrotto padding better. It is also difficult to fit a 100-400mm that is not attached to a camera in the bag without a lot of reorganizing dividers. The 15'' laptop compartment fits slim 15'' laptops nicely. thicker 15'' laptops will barely fit and the zipper to the laptop compartment will not be able to zip shut. Don't use heavy or large tripods with the bag (personal preference) as it feels unbalanced when tripod is attached to one side. What I liked was the molle system that allows attachment of lowepro utility bags, lens cases or any molle tactical bags, greatly improving capacity and utility. I ended up attaching a molle roll-up dump pouch to store things I don't need. The waist straps can be removed or replaced with thicker, sturdier ones if necessary. The original waist straps are a bit small. Despite the gripes I have with the bag which I mentioned above, it is a great bag overall for my use, as it checks almost all of the boxes I'm looking for in a bag.
Thanks for your thoughts! I agree about the small laptop section. It seems to be designed for a MacBook Pro and not much else. I would personally have larger tripods fixed to the back of the bag rather than the side, however you'd then need to remove it to get flat access into the back when it's lying down. I actually removed the waist pack almost immediately after buying it, then a few months later I added it back and realised how useful it was. It was then a few weeks later, I realised I'd attached the wrong waist pack (one from my old CompuTrekker AW) and noticed how pathetic the correct waist pack is.
Yes the included waist strap is pretty flimsy to be honest. With large tripods it depends on the situation, as the backpack itself is quite boxy, adding a large tripod to the back doesn't give very good weight distribution and it might often get caught or knock into things. For laptops I managed to fit a 15.6 inch MSI gaming Laptop, but it was so snug it became hard to zip up the back access point.
Choosing between this and 350. I have sony A7 ii with some lenses, macbook pro 13, mini bluetooth speaker. Which one should I take? And are both handbagage or only the 350?
Now you’re using Fuji cameras more, do you find this too big for what you need? I ask cos i use the Fuji xh1 and trying to decide between the 450 & 350 myself
Hey Joe I've had the Pro tactic as well but I recently got another bag called the Wandrd Prvke. I love the design of it and it seems like it may be a good fit for you expescially for have the top part open for use of day gear. Oh and the comfort level is over 9000!!!!! lol You should check it out and give it a try. Keep cranking out the vids, they're great!
Yeah a few people have mentioned that to me before, but I've still not seen one in person. I've made the mistake of buying bags online blind in the past, and I won't be doing it again! Thanks for the suggestions though!
Thank you Joe for very good review. I have a question. Can you compare this bag with Lowepro Whistler 450 ? The whistler have a very good (better) protection and have a lot of space for other hiking gear if you want outdooring, but I hear so in Whistler is not alot of space for photo gear. What is your opinion? Thanks
nice review, what additional pouches are available particularly from 3rd party manufactures that fit the loops. I have Tamrac pouches from their belt range
You know you can add extra pouches where and when you need them? That's the whole point of the design of this bag. Originally I thought that I would want more external pockets, but since using it, I've not had much need for them.
Sure, I knew that and I really like the idea of being able to do that. But I just think it would be better if it has a larger area to store things on the outside by default. The drinks holder seemed really janky too. :( I'm now looking for a new bag to replace my Flipside 400AW. There's not a lot to choose from it seems.
Great review +1 sub, would love it if it had more mollie webbing on the bottom to secure a sleeping bag, mount a couple decent pouches on the back for rations and shelter and you could actually spend a bit of time out bush with this bag
To be fair, you could probably still hang something from the bottom using the handle strap that’s there. It’s great that the full surface of the back is attachable though!
dig the video i subscribed today...any idea if you think it would be perfect to hold a sony a6000, a telephoto and 2 prime lenses, and then a mavic pro and the controller?
Couldn't get on Ryan Air with this. it's also too deep for Sony mirror less. my a7rii was fine left to right but bounced about up and down. had to pad it all out. it's fine for standard size dslr's though.
Ryanair are tighter than leggings when it comes to cabin restrictions; I'd panic if I was only carrying a lunchbox. Generally speaking this bag is overall, going to be too big for a 100% mirrorless system. The space I carry my A7R in within this bag is actually about the same as where my 16-35 is held.
Joe Allam very true! I exchanged mine for the Pro Runner BP 350 AW II. it's very similar, not as deep. my a7rii fits in that left and right and up and down without any extra padding. I do prefer the tactical look of the protactic though! can never fine the perfect bag like you say!
I'd struggle to claim it as a personal item on some premium airlines, if already carrying a rolling carry-on. Though I have in the past (nervously) got away with it; if I was ever questioned, I don't think I'd pass their tests haha
It can quite easily, though only in the top half of the bag, accessible via the “top-turret” opening. I’m not sure about the smaller 350 version though...
I'm a new subscriber and I absolutely love your videos. I've been hearing about your search for the perfect camera bag so I thought I might suggest the Incase DSLR Pro pack. Maybe it's the perfect bag you've been looking for.
I do not know which bag to choose ... Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW or Case Logic KDB-101-BLACK. The Caselogic has the advantage of having a waterproof bottom. Any suggestions? www.caselogic.com/en/international/collections/camera/kontrast/kontrast-pro-dslr-backpack-_-kdb_-_101_-_black
Do you have anymore Peak Design products? Would really like you to do more reviews and opinions on most of their products (Pouches, Covers, Clips) and espiaclly with them having new bags now, other then the Messenger and Pouch they have.
Yeah they would probably work quite well. LowePro do make some pouches and they even include one with the bag (seen at the end of the video) which is very useful.
Nah I'm happy with this bag and not looking to get anything else. I'm also not that much of a fan of the Peak Design one, though I've still not seen it in person.
Snap! We share great taste is bags. I bought this for my trip last month. I also mention & link you in my vid.
Wahay! I have to admit, I'm severely behind on your vlogs lately 😳 all I know is you keeping popping out photos from a different location in America each time, ha!

I love this bag! it fits all of my gears, including my DJi mavic Pro, Panasonic GH4 with 3 lenses and some of my audio gears.
Well done. Very helpful, candid and well presented video. I would add that my personal experience as a keen amateur is that Lowepro is a great company. I had a problem with my previous bag and their response was fast and completely satisfying.
I agree! They really listen to feedback too, which is always a great sign for a company!
It sure seems to be a GOOD bag and you talk well about it, from a practical, on the terrain point of view. But to be the BEST bag, I'd have wished to hear more about other bags! (Thinktank, Tamrac, ClikElite,...)
Quality and intelligently put together review. So helpful.
Lowepro needs to higher you. You just made me purchase this bag. Thank you my friend :) New subscriber. Love your channel.

Nice! I've got the LP 400 AW and I'm thinking of upgrading.. Really tired of lugging the laptop around in a separate bag.
lovely review!
but you did not mention the extra pads they come with and the waist strap are very good for hiking mountain.
bought this 2015, for my 60D with kit lens,50mm1.8,yongnuo flash, few 8GB sd cards,
the bag is the most expensive photography equipment i own..lol
Nice review! And I love the color grading in the video!
Hey Joe, excellent video as always. Your channel got me into photography and with each video I learn more and more. This bag really looks like a perfect companion to put camera gear in it. Keep it up :)
Thanks, that's great to hear - glad I've inspired your photography!
A great review of this bag !! Thank you so much, I was trying to choose between the Mantfrotto and this one that I love with your review ..
Great review. Very objective and balanced. Thank you. Just thinking of upgrading my Lowepro Mini Trekker AW. Almost enough room but not quite.
Good Review, grading is a bit over the top.
not saying the color grading is bad. everyone has their own taste, but i prefer a lot more contrast.
Hi joe, i just wanna say thank you, because your video today i bought my one and only Pro Tactic 450!!! thanks man
can I put D500 with 200-500 lens attached inside it horizontally.
I want to bring out it from the side chain.
Have you looked at the Lowepro Flipside Sport 20L...? If you like the tactical 450 you might like it even more.
Thanks for the vid! Had you considered using a bad similar in capacity and usability that also adds wheels and pull up handle? I saw one reviewed but have forgotten the manufacturer.
Hi Joe, a very informative video, I think you have just made up my mind regarding the next bag I am about to buy, regards Ian
Very nice, looking forward to get one of these
I LOVE you videos! I have been an amateur photographer for over a year. What kind of filter do you use on the videos? It looks like it has a bit of vintage mixed in.
The Protac 450 & the Prvke 21 are my two go to bags Highly recommend them both
Enjoyed the video, and like the bag. Noticed you have a black faced watch. What brand is that?
Nice. Will this fit under the seat for air travel?
Don't the side openings kinda ruin the backside opening? As someone could still open your bag on the side and grab your camera
subbed to your channel, love how we both use mostly the same gear. Makes me feel like I bought all the right things.
Finally a proper review of this bag! This has decided it for me, was trying to choose between this and the Peak Design Backpack. Best review I've seen so far. Thanks,
Thank you, great video on a bag I was considering and now I'll probably go with it.
What is really the difference between the 350 and 450? Just sizes right? Do we lose the amount of pockets too?
Thanks for the really great review, I was trying to decide between manfrotto and lowepro trek ( no laptop compartment ), I think I'll go with this one
Great review. I wish I saw a review for this bag when I was deciding on what to buy, would've made my decision easier.

im in a need for a new bag since my current one is now around a decade old....your vid helped me out a bit :)
A very well deserved thumb up! Thanks
Choosing between this and 350. I have sony A7 ii with some lenses, macbook pro 13, mini bluetooth speaker. Which one should I take? And are both handbagage or only the 350?
would you recommend it over peak design 30L everyday backpack?
looks good.. but are you still using it 3 years on ?
What are some other bags you've used before and what is good about them? I'm trying to decide what to buy
I have the 350 and i love it!!!
would you pick this bag over the chrome niko?
Great video review. The audio sounds absolutely amazing btw! Thx!
Cheers! I'm always looking to get the audio as good as possible - on this occasion it was one of the first times using a lav mic to good effect.
What mic? Sounds great
I love this bag. I was able to fit all of my large lens as well as a speed flash very comfortably. And still looks compact on my back.
I just love the way this is shot. It's like we are having a casual walk with you haha. The color and lighting has nice tones to it too
Now you’re using Fuji cameras more, do you find this too big for what you need? I ask cos i use the Fuji xh1 and trying to decide between the 450 & 350 myself
How are the straps? I hear it's pretty thin and after a long time not as comfortable
Can this bag fit under the seat of Ryanair/Easyjet? Or will it have to go in the overhead?
Thank you Joe for very good review. I have a question. Can you compare this bag with Lowepro Whistler 450 ? The whistler have a very good (better) protection and have a lot of space for other hiking gear if you want outdooring, but I hear so in Whistler is not alot of space for photo gear. What is your opinion? Thanks
This is my current dilemma too. Both bags look great
Have you looked at the vanquest trident 31? I just ordered one at it looks great for camera gear
nice review, what additional pouches are available particularly from 3rd party manufactures that fit the loops. I have Tamrac pouches from their belt range
You can pretty much fit anything that is designed to be used with MOLLE bags. Most belt loops could be used if the loop opens in some way.
I've been thinking about buying one, but I haven't found a good video on the bag, thanks
Glad I could help out!
great review :-)
Will it fit a Ronin M? What do you think?
Can this bag be used as your carry on in an airplane and would it fit under the seat
great review! u sold me.....gonna order one on my next order on bhphoto...thanks!
Just got this bag today. Unfortunately I'm sending it back, it just lacks extra storage on the outsides for accessories.
Would you recommend this bag for Fuji system for travel/city hiking?
Can this bag be used as one of their flipside bags since it has a waist strap?
hi joe! how do you find the metabones adapter work on sony? is it allow the canon lens to work on autofocusing when recording a video?
ohman looking like the bag for me.. thanks for review, well done
"yes it still kinda looks like a camera bag"... the tripod hanging on the outside wouldn't give it away would it? lol. Good review.
thanks for the vid!
how wide are the straps? I'm a small female and very often they're too wide for my shoulders.
Very nice review! :)
Will the tamron 150-600 lens fit in upper compartment?
I lost my straps!!!! Is there any way I can order them somewhere or use third party one??? Please help
Great in-depth review
how would you compare this Lowepro with Peak Design Everyday 30L????
Peak Design backpack. Received my 20L version earlier this week.
nice video just got this bag as a gift - love it
Cheers! I realised today that I've not complained about this bag in anyway compared to my previous ones!
Would it hold a zhiyun crane 2 with a panasonic lumix camera attached to it?
Does that side compartment fit a Pro DSLR or DSLR with a battery pack? I search for that info for days.
Could you use this as a dual camera/drone bag?
Great review +1 sub, would love it if it had more mollie webbing on the bottom to secure a sleeping bag, mount a couple decent pouches on the back for rations and shelter and you could actually spend a bit of time out bush with this bag
To be fair, you could probably still hang something from the bottom using the handle strap that’s there. It’s great that the full surface of the back is attachable though!
Enjoyed the video! Do you happen to know how many liters the bag holds?
Just discovered your page through this video! Thank You!! Definitely sub'n to your channel!
Any thoughts on the Tenba Axis Tactical?
Do you think if it could fit a Crane 2 inside?
Hey Joe! Really loved the color grading of this video! Can you please make a video of how you edit your videos? Great videos!
Somebody said, that carrying a 15" laptop is painful on the back. Did you test that out?
dig the video i subscribed today...any idea if you think it would be perfect to hold a sony a6000, a telephoto and 2 prime lenses, and then a mavic pro and the controller?
Yeah I think that would fit quite easily to be honest. Just make sure you go for the 450 version of the bag
Couldn't get on Ryan Air with this. it's also too deep for Sony mirror less. my a7rii was fine left to right but bounced about up and down. had to pad it all out. it's fine for standard size dslr's though.

I do prefer the tactical look of the protactic though! can never fine the perfect bag like you say!
this is better then the flip side 450?
Do you think this backpack can be used as a "personal item" on spirit airlines?
I'd struggle to claim it as a personal item on some premium airlines, if already carrying a rolling carry-on. Though I have in the past (nervously) got away with it; if I was ever questioned, I don't think I'd pass their tests haha
Can this fit pro bodies? or anything with a battery grip added on
It can quite easily, though only in the top half of the bag, accessible via the “top-turret” opening. I’m not sure about the smaller 350 version though...
so it wont fit a 1Dx mark 2 with 24-70/2.8 on the side pockets?
did you ever had the Transit backpack 350AW? how is it compared to it?
I'm a new subscriber and I absolutely love your videos. I've been hearing about your search for the perfect camera bag so I thought I might suggest the Incase DSLR Pro pack. Maybe it's the perfect bag you've been looking for.
Hey Joe, did you attend school at the Naval Academy? I saw you wearing a jumper in one of your other videos
No I didn't, but I think I know the jumper you're referring to. That was bought in a market in Tokyo, ha!
Would this bag fit under the set in a plan? I have a 1510 for the overhead but need more room for lenses and other gear.
Yes, it has fit under every plane seat I've had since buying it!
Thanks for the great review! Almost perfect bag. Just needs a waterproof bottom for when you sit it down on the ground.
Doesn't every bag, right?! I really wish this was more common across backpacks...
I do not know which bag to choose ... Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW or Case Logic KDB-101-BLACK. The Caselogic has the advantage of having a waterproof bottom. Any suggestions?

Do you have anymore Peak Design products? Would really like you to do more reviews and opinions on most of their products (Pouches, Covers, Clips) and espiaclly with them having new bags now, other then the Messenger and Pouch they have.
Unfortunately I don't have any other products from them. To be honest, it's only really the capture pro that has stood out massively for me!
Nearly perfect camera bag and great review 👍🏻
It's the closest I think I'll get for a long time…
Joe Allam Maybe you can expand this bag with some MOLLE pouches, they can be useful for action cams. I hope lowepro have pouches for this bag!
Yeah they would probably work quite well. LowePro do make some pouches and they even include one with the bag (seen at the end of the video) which is very useful.
Just ordered one of these yesterday!
Have you ordered the new Peak Design everyday backpack? I think it is awesome!
Nah I'm happy with this bag and not looking to get anything else. I'm also not that much of a fan of the Peak Design one, though I've still not seen it in person.
