I ordered a custom Serus J back in January. I think it was estimated to come in this month, but Covid-19 said nah. I saw that Novo did quarantine for a time and recently opened back up with a smaller staff. Despite how antsy I am to get my Novo, I'm glad to hear they're staying safe and staying small. It'll be a big step up for me as I'm used to running budget electrics.
Just got my Serus J today. I took a gamble to order this one. Never held or played one before. No regrets. Resonate for months. Works for me. I currently own 3 custom shop that cost more than the SJ. Keeping mine.
These guitars feel and sound even better than they look! Somebody will regret selling these guitars...the wood is tempered and thats why they are so light and why they have sustain for days... i love my Serus J!
I haven’t seen this maker before. Amazing selection. These axes would make any player drool. They look ready to play and easy to enjoy out of the box. Very worthy investment. They are slightly outside my price range but already picked the one I’d want. (Solus F1). This talk was really enjoyable. From the instruments you’ve purchased there’s no wonder why you’d acquire more than one. It must be a great buying experience to deal with a small shop that’s dedicated to their customers. Sounds like they have outstanding ethics also to choose quality over quantity.
Congrats on the Novo Serus T! I might have to keep my eyes peeled on Reverb as well and hope I am as fortunate. I can only imagine how much they cost brand new with our loonie's current exchange rate.
Great video. Do you still have your Novos? I have had a Novo Serus J and Serus S for about five years now. I play both guitars almost every day. Both guitars have pickups made by Lollar. Novo Serus J and Serus S are both fantastic instruments as they should be at those prices. I like reliced guitars just for practical reasons. It doesn’t bother me if accidentally bump the guitar to a corner of a table etc.
yes i have 2, J and S and they are both my number 1 go to.....and i have some other amazing guitars. Novo's are amazing, lets just say this, If you don't Novo you don't know....
I love how guys that buy these are so gear obsessed. Go on and on about details like flamed maple necks, nickel frets, ...the craftsmanship...then they play 3 notes of a Wallflowers song
Just come across this and you have my dream Novo, that Serus T stunning relic job saw it on instagram when it was first produced..... can't believe someone sold it.
Hey Tim, just ran across this. I took a hard look at your J and we messaged back when you had it on Reverb. I knew it would sell soon. I ended up ordering one that is due by Feb. Devon said it may be a little sooner. I'm still not decided on the pups yet. How noisy are the Fralins? I'm torn because I have guitars with almost every pup they offer. Nice review!!
I really want a serus j but the wait is 18months. That is absurd. I don’t even want a custom order really, I just want SS frets and different color pickups plus minimal wear
God this video doesn’t help my gas for these guitars . I’m just in a dilemma , I’m a seven/8 string player . I would own one already if they made sevens. I just love the unique shape and craftsmanship of these guitars just can’t bring myself to buy a six! And that novo j is absolutely stunning! Something closer to what I would spec. What color is that?
man I would really love to try out the serus S or any of their stuff for that matter, it would be so cool going through the whole process and building one of my own
I love the mission statement of novo guitars. That blue guitar looks quite large , is it just me or my phone ? The lower bout looks big. And thats not a deal breaker or a knock at novo, its just an observation, i dig novo. Im canadian too bro, cheers
Hey man! The way the guitar curve I never really felt them to be "big". Especially the J as it's has a contoured body so it's actually pretty thin in places.
Fantastic & heplful video, Tim, thank you! I share a lot of the same sentiments. I am thinking of going with the Serus S model, but I have to say that the Serus T with the Lollar Gold Foil in the neck sounds out-of-this-world well. I am slightly on the fence about the model, but I think the trem takes priority this time (like you, the Tele is my all-time fave, so I always look at the Ts first & foremost). Also, great move on part of the Novo to keep it true to their original concept and selling direct; I love those guys! Since you've mentioned the fret sprouting problem in general (fellow Canuck here, too, so I get it), do have a look at the Aristides guitars, especially their T-style variant, the T/0; they are not made of wood (proprietary body material called arium + Richlite board); it works like a charm, can attest to it; just sharing my experience (I am not getting rewarded for saying this publicly :) ). Oh, and I subbed. Cheers & take care!
IMO a lot of that depends on whether it’s a custom order or select. The custom orders are taking 18 months now so I think there’s a premium on those ones. Select I think 90% of new is about as good as one can expect really. Unfortunately I don’t think there are many deals to be found with Novo these days.
Telecaster bridge or P90’s I love the tele pickups but I want have to buy a Les Paul and I get a some P90’s with a Jazzmaster tremolo it’s like I created it in a lab!🎸🤯🔫
I appreciate a good relic guitar, but not when the price is marked up to where you are paying more for a nasty finish than for a nice shiny one. If I am gonna shell out three grand for an axe, I want a nice shiny new one.
Uhm... ahm ... and ... mmmm ... a guitar with a fucked-up paint job, sharp edges, scratches, and dents, with little visible attention to details, nothing really fancy that other brands do not use already, twice or thrice as expensive as Fender, or Les Paul, more expensive than Paul Reed Smith, at 8:00 you mention "premium finishes" while scraping off some thin-layered shitty paint by rubbing the guitar with your hand, it's hilarious. Is this a paid promotion? And how much would that guitar be worth when reselling? Not many people like the "relic" look.
Spot on, Tim. Appreciate the kind words. Cheers! \m/ \m/
Awesome, thanks for showcasing Novo! In my opinion, Novo is the best electric guitar brand out there.
I ordered a custom Serus J back in January. I think it was estimated to come in this month, but Covid-19 said nah. I appreciate you making this video, I've been curious about these guitars and this video helped educate me a bit. Thank you!

I just got a Rivolta Mondata, a cheaper fano guitar for about 1300 canadian and it looks beautiful.
just ordered a miris j..only have to wait a year..hopefully it will be worth the wait
I ordered a TC a couple of weeks ago. We’re in agony together lol.
I like your Canadian tuxedo.
I am, after all, Canadian.
Leo Fender Music Man comes to mind!
Congrats on the Novo Serus T! I might have to keep my eyes peeled on Reverb as well and hope I am as fortunate. I can only imagine how much they cost brand new with our loonie's current exchange rate.
I finally get my Serus J, anticipate late July. Custom Blue Sparkle, can't wait!
Thanks Tim for this video. This is exactly what I was looking for. A review of a Novo from not "a big UA-camr..yet". Cheers!
Ordered my Solus a couple weeks back. Stoked.
You’ll love it!
Thanks so much for this. I’ve really been liking the sound of these guitars when I hear them. It was nice to hear an in depth perspective!
Cheers!
These are great; hints of classic design cues, with added originality, without being too trendy.
Only hearing Great things about NOVO!!! EVERY musician deserves one ,,, including this guy!! Yep,,, gettin one or two for the studio!! Peace brother
I just got a novo 3 days ago Ive been laying for 40 years BEST OF THE BEST!!!
Where is the no talking part 😂 I just love to hear guitars not being talked about guitars ❤
Great video. Do you still have your Novos?

Novo guitars look like they were build by a bloke in his shed out of reclaimed wood
man I would really love to try out the serus S or any of their stuff for that matter, it would be so cool going through the whole process and building one of my own

Love my Serus T, and have a Solus F1 on the way...
Nice Tim, still have the J? I need one!

Nice reverb you got going in that room. You dont even need a pedal.
Temu music is win 😂 just joking great video bud subscribed
Great video mate, thank you. What would you say is a good price for a use novo solus h2?

Guy, you might consider treating your room. Beautiful guitars though.
Jazzmasters do not have P90 they have completely different pickups
thats right!!
You not gonna play them thru that Matchless??
sadly he does not play guitar
let me know if you are looking to part with the J.
Do you recommend the Novos for Guitar players that play Rock and also Fast?
OH YESSSSSS
I appreciate a good relic guitar, but not when the price is marked up to where you are paying more for a nasty finish than for a nice shiny one. If I am gonna shell out three grand for an axe, I want a nice shiny new one.
Jesus, listen to the room, lol! How the hell can you have a studio set up in there? Get some treatment dude.
omg you talk more than you play
Beautifully ugly guitars. I want one, but alas, they are not inexpensive. Maybe one day.
Never wanted to just punch someone in the face more than you
