Can we all agree Mike is the master of "one life bar" boss fights?
The best and also most unknown Turtles game.
In my opinion ths is the best TMNT game, period. Better then anything else on the NES or SNES. Yes I think its even better then Turtles 4. It just has so much style, unique bosses and Foot soldiers, and overall coolness and care put into it. Like how each turtle has their own different super move, and idle animations. The fun overhead toss move. The atmospheric presentation of some bosses, the different levels and how enemies come out, and was the first game to have 4 enemies on the screen at once. Even the music great, better then the rest of the series. There is so much to this game that is not present in the others.
I just feel its the best Turtles game there is to date. It feels like a lot of love and work went into this game, and I almost never hear anyone talk about it. When I was a kid I had Turtles 1-4, and I played this one the most by far, followed next by 1.
Im sorry, but Turtles 4 for me felt to samey, like each level was just exactly the same, and there was no difference between the Turtles or enemies, they all have the same moves. But in Turtles 3, if your on the beach, you got Foot soldiers throwing sand in your face! There was just a much larger variety of Foot, and bosses, and the Turtles themselves.
I'm not sure if I can completely agree that this game is better than Turtles in Time, but I agree with you on everything else that you said! This really is an excellent game. I would say that what gives Turtles in Time a slight edge is that you have a bit of a bigger move set, the Turtles play a little bit more uniquely, and I feel like the boss fights are designed a little bit better. However, I do love all of the stages in this game! They contain some fantastic graphical effects for an NES game!
@@co81385 I would say that the special moves in this game are cooler and certainly make the turtles stand out. Instead of a little dash, donatello does a multiple summersaulting attack in the air. Instead of a basic kick, raphael does a spinning drill attack in the air. They are way more memorable and satisfying to use and sets them more apart from each other. Most of the time I actually forget turtles in time has special moves.
I think there's more game to be enjoyed in turtles 3 and I think the boss fights have more interesting mechanics. There's more variety in the ways they come at you instead of just hitting them, they switch sides of the screen, hit them, switch sides and repeat. The fights in this game are hard, but fair amd more importantly they keep you on the edge of your seat presenting a good challenge
But I'd say the difficulty in general in turtles in time is just too easy. Maybe that's why I forget there are special moves? I never need them. Even on the hardest setting I never have nail bitting moments in turtles in time, nor do I feel the need to really master any boss fights. It's nicer for a laid back play through, but it's far less rewarding. All in all turtles in time really is a great game, it's certainly gorgeous, but I think the fact that this game is all but forgotten is a shame, because I really do feel gameplay wise it's the better game.
that reaction of mike beating super shredder in an insane clutch is a feeling that you can never experience while playing with save states and rewind

This is such a good NES game. Seems it went relatively unknown too. An arcade version would have been cool.
Well it doesn't have the same nostalgia factor as the first NES one or the SNES one. It's like Radical Rescue on the Game Boy. People probably talk a lot more about the first two games than this one even though it's probably the best of the bunch (even though insanely hard).
It was a pretty late release. I think it came out after the SNES was already out.
It feels like Konami was trying to milk the hype off of the arcade game (TMNT 2 NES) with this one and they ended up making a superior game

Little fun fact about this game: the box art features a Triceraton on the cover, but there's not a single one to be found in the actual game.

good way to beat krang...by moving vertically not horizontally, having him trail you, you hit em and move down, hit em...move down...he follows. shredder, just stay away from him until he does that lightning attack. Don't jump kick em, and certainly don't waste your life with the special attack. awesome game.
Still one of my favorite games to play of all time. I need to learn how to stream, so I can put up a no death run. lol

The end couldn't be more clutch than that (last live, no more continues, 1 HP left), man, I had to play this game again and see if I can get a 1-credit run, but I'm kinda rusty...
Unfortunately never released for PAL - TMNT II is one of my all time favourites with fond memories
Probably my favorite Famicom game.
All around this is the best Turtles game in my opinion. Got this one the day it came out. Mikey is my man in this one.
Larry Zerner who played Shelly in Friday The 13th Part 3 never did another movie, and if you like The Shining and you haven't heard it, you should look up the Opie and Anthony audio from when Rich Vos plugged his gig at a place called The Overlook and the listeners and hosts were just making Shining jokes about him for about 40 minutes.
46:30… could never get beyond that boss. I’d play as ralph, kept « drilling him » if you will, he wouldn’t die. Maybe normal attack was the way to go.
I recently had a boss fight in breath of the wild was so annoying. The boss was waterblight gannon, never could beat it. I then go pull the master sword, go back to it dead in 2 tries! The fight against shredder reminds me of that boss fight that Mike is dealing with!

We'll never get a new non-beat em up Ninja Turtles. Turtles in Time is so iconic and beloved vs. the hated NES platformer (most known as a game AVGN hated on ironically). Some of the Gameboy Turtles games are platformers, though, so you might like those, Mike.
I beat this game so many times. The best Turtle game for the NES and especially its easier than Battletoads for me :)

damn i'd be happy if the new turtles was as good as sor4, didn't know the expectations were so high.
Also not entirely sure how much actual damage it does, but I think leonardo's special hits super shredder a ton of times while hes doing the lightning thing.
You're actually better off not doing the special during Super Shredder's lightning, cus sometimes it doesn't even take off a full bar while the special always takes off a full bar. The lightning really doesn't do that much damage.

In regards to your comments about modern SW you are spot on 100% correct and i feel your pain, its ok to vent Mike anyone who truly grew up watching the series is heartbroken with what these sick fucks in hollyweird have done to it, like just about every other once great franchise they've turned it into politically fueled BS, i miss the days when movies were meant for entertainment.

I beat the Manhattan Project IN 5 MINUTES!!!! using the Konami code.
you can cheat on the bosses, especially with Leonardo. just use with special over and over. He spins in place so you dont have to reposition him and they cant hit you. plus you dont need to strikle, walk away and strike again (like in t2) you can just keep hitting attack and stand your ground on most foot soldiers. Mike was delaying, trying to walk away and come back like you would do in the arcade game, thus giving the computer a chance to hit him. Plus razar....YEa.....I dont even know. He was so hard thats how I figured out the cheat. I got fed up.
I hope the TMNT Shredders revenge is as good as the first arcade game.
Buddy, you don't need to do your special move to dodge the lightning. Just move straight up when he does it and it should pass right by you. Doing your special just drains your life while the lightning hitting you doesn't even do any more damage than using the special would.

THANK YOU for the Star Wars comments you made! I've never been much of a SW fan to begin with, but I was done with it all when Attack of the Clones was released. It's really been bombardment since Disney bought the property. Although, I will say I did enjoy Rogue One.
I agree with you, and Mike, about the bombardment! I think that was used to make Star Wars so special was that there was a new movie released only every few years. Now you can't escape a new Star Wars film or show!

Usually the overhead sling move does not do any more damage to bosses than regular attacks, but the one guy said that Shredder is a special case? It could be true, was unaware of this tho.
There have been quite a few adult actors that have only done one film, ... however, these were 80s slasher film actors.... amazingly though, they still have a huge fan base at comic-cons. Probably the most famous, one-off, is the dad from Troll 2. Although, I don't know if that counts as a one off, because he does have a documentary about being in that film.
There are people who have beaten this game without dying a single time. May help to watch their UA-cam vids to get some strategies on how to do this. Looks like it takes a lot of practice either way as I tried to implement some of those strats & it def didn't go as well as it does for them lol.

Hey Mike,
I just wanted to let you know for the future, the Japanese version of TMNT III on NES actually has an options screen when you turn the game on. It let's you choose the difficulty between easy & normal AND choose how many lives you start with per continue with 3, 5 or 7! This might have helped you a little bit before making this video, since this game takes some practice and definitely some luck. However, now that you know it might be fun to try later on if you play TMNT III on NES again.

He also won't attack you if you aren't standing right in front of him, so move around with him diagonal from you. And as long as you don't attack him he won't attack as much.
