    Here's part 2 of this review: • Yamaha THR 10II - Revi...
    Yamaha's THR range has been incredibly popular. The THR looks good, many think it sounds great, and some people have even called the Yamaha THR the best practice amp out there. Now Yamaha have released a new version of the THR. It comes in three different models (THR10, THR10 wireless, and THR30 wireless), and the one I'm taking a look at is the THR10.
    Is it worth the hype? Find out in this video.

    I just got the THR10II Wireless a few days ago.
    This is how I feel about it:
    1. Wireless feature is just awesome, it is a great reason to pick up your guitar more often and just play
    2. The modeling is pretty good (better than many things i've tried). Cab simulations let you really dial in a good tone that goes well with your guitar
    3. Built-in speakers are average, can sound a little boxy but not muddy. It is easy to EQ a sparkling tone, it just lacks a little depth.
    But it is really not too bad, still sounds very nice and clean.
    4. Clean tones are the bomb! Crunch sounds you need to work a little harder to get out a really good tone, but it is certainly doable (PRO TIP: Crank the master instead of gain on crunch, crank the gain on cleans!)
    5. It is awesome to use this just as a modeler and passing the signal through the headphone jack to your monitor/living room speakers
    6. Use the compressor that you can enable in the app, can really make the sound pop better!
    Is it worth this money?
    For me it is, because I am just looking for something easy to use, with decent sound.
    If I am stuck with using just the built in speakers i'd still buy it, but they are small speakers and the sound matches that.
    Not suitable for gigging, definitely suitable for rocking out at your livingroom!

    I have a THR10X. It is a actually a great amp. However, you need to sit down with it and get the editor going to extract the best tones from it. Yeah, you can just turn it on and fiddle the knobs, but once you get into the deeper parameters you can really open up the tonal possibilities available, especially when you start mixing different cabinets. Also the amp needs to be properly elevated to ear level for best results. It is, after all, a 10 watt amp with tiny speakers. Mine takes pedals extremely well and another key to this amp is not to run too much gain, but dime the amp volume (not the master). This way, it reacts like a NMV wide open and is very responsive to the volume control. It is never going to fill the room like a 50 or 100 watt amp and 4x12, but that was not what it was designed to do.

    I have been using the thr5 amp for the last couple years and what I do is keep it on the lead channel and use an overdrive pedal with the gain around 12 and the master all the way up. Like others have said the app helps a ton because there’s more access to EQ and you can adjust delay/reverb settings. Also cab simulations - I think the British 2x12 sounds the best

I totally agree with you with why the hell don’t they put the 3 model switch on the amp, other than that there are so much more you can do with the app and pretty fun to play with.

    I got rid of my katana 50 (which is great, but too big and too loud for my taste) and got the THR 30 with the wireless. I use the app on my phone and downloaded the 41 factory presets, and with 2 swipes I have a new preset to play with. I'm just a beginner (1 year), but I really love this little amp - sounds great to me and is unbelievably convenient.

    I just purchased this amp and I love the sweet juicy tones. It is really annoying that the compressor and noise gate cannot be accessed without using the phone app or PC. Especially since the noise gate is very aggressive and doesnt work particularly well imo. The effects all sound great, I particularly like the tape echo but they can not be truly adjusted without the app :( The amp definitely cant be appreciated without using the app and that's a shame, there are even cab models in there that are nowhere on the amp's physical settings. The presets are useful though. I set 5 that I like and I dont anticipate having to hop back into the app very often

    I hate you for being honest about this amp ha ha. Refreshing to see an actual real opinion on a piece of gear rather than an endorsed one. I just got one of these for a great price. It won't be like my tube amps but hopefully I can dial a tone without perforating my ear drums. After a few hours of use I find you do need the app to get the nicest tones. Cleans are lovely but anything gritty requires patience

      @L Smith Curious to know what sounds 'good' to you... or what exactly you were doing with the amp to make it sound so 'bad'. Seems a little unnecessary to call people who like it 'pussies' as well.
      Its a little amp specifically designed to be played quietly.

    • @georgetwydell6166
      @georgetwydell6166 3 роки тому

      @L Smith fair enough. The only trouble with the ‘low watt’ valve amps is they still need to be cranked… because they are valve amps. I have a blackstar ht-1 and for the size of it it’s very loud.
      (Trust me I know what loud is, I own a Marshall 1959hw superlead and I have used that unattenuated and on 10 a few times)
      To get its best it needs to be at 3 o clock and by then it’s far to loud for everyday bedroom playing, or teaching or even in a flat or something.
      The Yamaha actually sounds great at the super low volumes to me. I’d say it might have been worth holding onto a bit more,
      Try some other cabs in the app and what not. It’s not meant to be in the same category as a 15 watt valve amp or the Marshall class 5. It wasn’t even built to be as loud hence the small speakers.

    • @georgetwydell6166
      @georgetwydell6166 3 роки тому

      @L Smith I own a Marshall 1959hw with matching 1960hw A and B cabs… also a Vintage Modern 2466 also with the matching A and B cab. I gig with it regularly cranked so I know what a good amp sounds like dude… haha.
      Everyone has their personal preference… and also the guitar you use will have an influence too… and the general tone from your hands.
      If I didn’t like the sound of the amp I’d get rid of it… but as a guitar teacher who needs a small amp to get around peoples houses and in schools, the Thr10ii just does the job perfectly with the wireless stuff. It’s not my gigging amp, or a recording amp.
      Also I’m curious to know what ‘quiet bedroom’ levels is to you…
      I’d suggest rather than acting like we don’t know what we’re talking about, perhaps accept we all have different taste?

    Hi Elmo! Great review!! First of all, congratulations for your superb playing. I´m interested in this amp and I guess I´m gonna purchase it sooner or later. Something you said got my attention, though. If I haven´t misunderstood, you said that this amp doesn´t provide tons of distortion, so it´s not a fierce amp in its more overdriven settings. I´ve seen that you haven´t reviewed the hi-gain and special voices in the "modern" mode, the one that is supposed to match the former THR10X emulations. I reckon that you might have omitted them because you could have not noticed any substantial difference from the distortion you got from the classic voices (with the red light). Am I wrong? Are the differences worth mentioning or you don´t feel so? Thanks very much in advance and congratulations again!!

    I got to try these out in a store over the weekend and I wasn't too impressed either. What I didn't like was how limited the eq was. I agree about not liking this trend of apps and hooking your amp to a computer to get full functionality. The reality is a little button next to the channel dial to switch channel voices can't be that much of a big deal to add. Everything is digital anyway. If my memory still works the bigger thr may have that little button. I could be wrong. I'm approaching 40 with the quickness and my mind isn't what it used to be. I could be confusing it with the new katana.

    • @guyfromnj
      @guyfromnj 4 роки тому +1

      Grant Hutchins I watched a video where the reviewer showed the editor. It did seem pretty simple and easy. I like that you can tweak the 4 modulation types (rate depth and mix) and the reverb and the delay also. It would be nice to see additional effects available esp at the price point. 400 bucks is quite a bit more than the katana and you get a lot more with the katana plus it's loud enough to gig. I'm sure if I spent some time with the Yamaha and the editor I could get sounds I like. The sounds I heard weren't bad when I tried it out in the store but they weren't that much better or at all better than the katana for almost half the price. Plus I watched the original andertons videos on the thr and lee goes on and on about how it's the best little practice amp. I was just expecting more from it based on what I heard about it. With that said I only played it in a guitar center for 15 mins. So I'm not the best judge plus sounds and tones are totally subjective.
      My thing is for over 400 bucks I could get a AC 4 or a blues junior or a used legitimate amp that will sound great and take pedals etc. So knowing that I feel that a amp like the Yamaha really needs to be something special. Or should be something special when it's competing with actual amps.

    The new models sound like shit, the modeling is completely different and sounds like the line 6 spider USED to sound. The current spider sounds better than the new Yamaha THR modelling, the old THR10 and THR10c with v2 firmware are completely different modelling than these new THRII amps. They better do a v2 with these new amps or there's no way I would upgrade for bluetooth and a bigger cab, they sound like jagged ass

    Hi, Elmo i liked your review of the thr10II but i wonder why you told nothing about the distorting/rattling/vibrating problem that they have. I guess maybe so thr lovers don’t come and hate on you for not lowering both the gain and volume at half so its sound okay. I have a fender champion 20 that is supposedly a begginer practice amp and it don’t distort as the thr10ii even when at max volume and its less than half the price of the thr10II. I think that Bluetooth function is worthless if the amp sound like fart when the volume is cranked a bit. I uploaded a video to show the problem with the thr10II. ua-cam.com/video/MiHOQIwVOQI/v-deo.html

    What I saw is just they saved money on a screw because of the Yamaha logo on the top left (just kidding). I prefer my Orange Micro Terror for home use... it has more bite to it! The fact it has a 12AX7 makes a huge difference in sound. Anyway the Yamaha THR10II sounds like a guitar imprisoned into a box!
