    Wow that's a good job on that trailer hitch. I oughta go to that guy if I ever have another problem with my boat trailer

    That trailer originally had a rotating lunette setup. You can see the remnants on the tongue still. Granted you got a longer tongue, I still would've tried to go with an actual lunette ring (sized for the pintle) instead of the "recovery" ring.

    Nice job, ;-) but you should shorten the chains a bit and attach them crosswise to the towing vehicle. Not that a hitch like that would ever fail, but the idea is if it does offroad, it will fall on the chains and not dig straight into the ground

    yup, step on brakes, "Ka chunk ", you acelerate "Ka chunk", on a slippery road, that sudden push jerk from behind you will make the vehicle unstable :D

    !!! I'm pretty sure either your pintle hitch or trailer eye needs to be able to rotate freely otherwise if the trailer flips you risk it taking the towing vehicle with it.

      I can see that. Luckily the trail is pretty light, and not very top heavy, so the chances are very slim. At some point I'll upgrade to a max coupler or similar - the pintle hitch is just too loud on the trails for my liking.

    Mig welded a hitch? For all the beating and welding you did, you’re still relying on the original welds on the side plates to hold the trailer from coming unhooked and killing someone.

    How would that work with 23' TT on rocky dirt roads in the back country, as well as hwy driving. Ty

    It looks great! :) I've been keeping up with your trailer series and it's looking pretty sweet. So what made you want to tow an overland trailer instead of just using the overland roof rack tent? Just more gear to carry on?

      Thanks! I wasn't happy with the RTT on the Jeep - it's top heavy, and gets in the way off road and when just driving around town. With the trailer I can either take it with me and camp, or set up a base camp. Plus eventually I'll put in a drawer and tailgate, so I can get some of the stuff out of the Jeep - it's full to the top when I go camping.

      @@RevereOverland in the off road community roof racks and rtt are a hazerd due to weight limets not calculating off road shear forces and failures.

    You did all that work to install a lunette on someone else's shoddy frame extension

      Pretty much

      Revere Overland you should have removed the bolt on center section and ran a tube the correct way.

    • @RevereOverland
      @RevereOverland  6 років тому +2

      The frame extension is made from 4 pieces of 3/8" steel welded into a tube, with two sides that run about 10" down either side of the original frame. The bolt might as well be there for decoration, it's not needed.

    No way! Talk about stop and go jerking motion, this is all that would do. Lock and roll is the way to go! No offense intended.

    I can't believe this! How loose isn't that trailer connection? Why have a ring that absolutely not fits to the hook? In Sweden this would be illegally and a good fine to the police. Connection are supposed to be tight and greased for a pleasant ride and safety. This looks like a farmer solution for field use.

    • @RevereOverland
      @RevereOverland  6 років тому +5

      MrJokkoma this is a common connection used by the military because it’s actually more secure on rough terrain and off road. It’s noisier, but a ball type hitch common in the EU will come disconnected when the angle is too great. The lunette eye will not.

    • @MrJokkoma

      Revere Overland I understand but how does your car trailer connections look for road use?

    • @RevereOverland
      @RevereOverland  6 років тому +5

      It's over 3 cm of high quality steel at the thinnest point, towing a ~200 kg trailer, clamped down with a heavy duty pintle hook. It's not coming off.

      This system was originally a military hitch. It’s strong as hell. The problem with this one is the way it was welded to the old hitch. They’re relying on mig welds to old steel.
