It was the other way around for sure. Morris and Jessie states in interviews that Prince would remove the Time off Major cities shows because the Time was showin him up.
Prince and Lenny were very very close. They had been friends for decades…since Lisa Bonet was pregnant with Zoe. So no…Lenny didn’t want to be his friend. Lenny is his own rock god.
Dont think Morris tried to compete with Prince. He knew Prince was a genius. I think he got tired of being in second place with interviewers constantly asking about Prince, but he always had respect for Prince.
I’m reading his memoir and he has nothing but love and respect for Prince. Yes it was/is a complicated relationship between him and Prince, which he readily admits too, but there’s no doubt that he loves, respects, and admires the man.
Definitely has respect for Prince w/o question! Half of his songs does sound Prince inspired, due to Prince writing them! However, I do think both sound somewhat similar to each other! I can see Morris getting some pointers/constructive criticism from Prince as well to better his craft! 💜
@@malakiasplayhouse Without Prince there would be no Morris Day & The Time. Prince wrote all the songs for the first 3 albums and gave Morris guide tracks to follow while recording the songs. Morris is talented but he is no where near the level of Prince. Unfortunately, Morris is singing the same songs that Prince wrote for them in the 80's. Even Jimmy Jam has said it was all Prince back then. Enough said.

Morris didn’t compete with Prince, because Prince created the group, The Time--in which Morris was the lead singer. Prince wrote most of their music.😊
Lenny is his own man and has his own sound, but you are 💯 that P influenced him greatly.
It’s definitely there! 💜😉
Lenny has admitted that he was greatly influenced by Prince, therefore it's no secret.
Yes there was definitely a healthy competition between Morris and Prince….especially in Morris’s mind😁

Yeah…I didn’t care for his “dancer” during the Rave concert
