I don't know why, but there's something about Yume Nikki's atmosphere that always makes me melancholic in a good way. No narrative, no plot, just an experience, a deep dive into one's consciousness. The nature of the dream world is captured marvelously. An existence devoid of time and rules, a comforting darkness.
that might be my favourite part about Yume nikki, it's like a deep dive into our subconscious, making it such an overwhelming experience full of images and sensations, something a plot or a narrative-driven experience wouldn't be fully able to project
There was a time in my life, that lasted maybe a few weeks, where I would play about 30 minutes of Yume Nikki every night before going to bed. I remember that during that time my dreams seemed almost as significant to me as my waking life, just like two sides of the same coin. It was a strange and peaceful feeling...
@@Maurrokh indeed! I had same experience playing .flow during my summer vacation in about 9th grade. Sometimes staying up till 3-4am, just vibing to the ost and the game itself felt absolutely magical. God, I love the fact so many people have in one way or another simillar experiences playing YN/Fangames

I feel like Niko could be in the picture, I have always had a soft spot for them, they are an amazing character that comes from an amazing games, don’t get me wrong, the amazing rpg that became world known, AKA undertale, is good, but I feel like OMORI, oneshot, and Yume Nikki are extremely underrated, this games are far from what undertale is, but are as good if not better than it, and they all kind of fall in the category of an RPG, and they should get wayyy more attention, one shot was so good, amazing, touching, and compelling, and omori, omori was something else, it had charm, alongsides everything one shot had and more but expressed it in a different way and manner, but none of them got the attention they deserved I hope that in a future, these games can finally get what they deserve and be treated as the masterpieces that they are.
Probably the one would brighten up the places emotion with the Eastward Main character beside, idk her name but yeah

Honestly, I'm more glad that now you can actually find people who heard of Yume Nikki, thanks to the attention it got from Omori. Before Omori the Yume Nikki fandom was literally dead and it felt to me like I was the only alive person left in the fandom. But now I can find people to talk about my favourite game of all time (Omori being the next favourite after it, of course).

Yume Nikki (even fangames like 2kki and .flow) Lisa, Omori, OFF, OneShot, Hello Charolette, Undertale, even one’s like Space Funeral or Hylics..
the feelings of these games are so raw in comparison to others I’ve played. ofc other games make me sad or happy or whatever else, but these games evoke something deep within people that i don’t think enough people can really capture, and i can’t even really describe what that is.
it’s kind of funny how it all started with Mother/Earthbound. a truly beautiful series.

omori, off, undertale, and oneshot are the only ones you listed that im a fan of, but i love this style of inde rpg that all these games manage to capture.
All of those you listed (besides undertale) are made in RPG maker. It’s crazy how developers can make these masterpieces in an engine with so many limitations.
Yume Nikki pioneered an entire genre, and had so much influence on 2000’s internet culture. Yume Nikki led me down the rabbit hole of indie RPGs, and now I never wanna leave.
There is plenty of other games that fit this genre too, for example:
- Ib
- Mad Father
- Misao
- The Witch’s House
- Gingiva
Just to name a few...

It helps me to immerse myself in my own world every night, withdrawing into myself.A year ago, I met Yume Nikki, Omori, Oneshot.They helped me cope with my depressive state for that period of time due to family circumstances, giving me a distraction from all the bad things.I've noticed this before, but damn...How much music can affect a person.It's amazing.Thanks for being able to listen to her.

Eastward is such an underrated game! glad it's finally getting some well deserved attention. The artstyle is absolutely fantastic and the storyline and characters are great as well! Absolutely love that game, definitely worth checking out if you haven't at all. Omori is an awesome game as well and it's great to see it getting so much attention

By the way, this has to be one of the best playlists of this genre I've heard. Never fails to giving me positive chills everytime I listen to it while laying on my bed trying to sleep at 4am.

@@krisjinstark4843 I think one of the reasons Eastward is not that popular is the story is really vague and leaves a lot to personal interpretation, kind of in an evangelion-ish way. Also i think a ton of people probably quit at chapter 3 due to how much of a complete tension break it is, and the fact that its by far the longest in the game. And honestly monkollywood was also kinda eh. Other than that it's a great game tho

I had listened to music from Yume Nikki and Omori before, but I never heard of "Eastward". And I loved the music.
Like a week later I saw the game at GameStop and I love it! And this playlist is the one that introduced me to the game, so thank you!
Man Eastward is such a cute little game that no one played that feels like classic Zelda as imagined by Ghibli but it committed the cardinal sin of releasing the same day as Deltarune chapter 2

I lost my best friend of 3 years, she was my first friend in 8th grade and she dropped me for a boy. Listening to this and just thinking and thinking about everything puts me at a whole new piece of mind. It makes me somewhat sad, but I also know that she made me who I am today. I hate her so much, But i love her more than anything
